TeamViewer alternatives: 11 remote desktop tools compared

People look for a TeamViewer alternative when the annual subscription is the thing they notice: it renews automatically, it is tiered for individuals, teams and enterprises, and the price rises with each step. They move to a cheaper per-computer service, to a self-hosted tool they run themselves, or to a specialist for gaming, helpdesk or managed IT.

Short answer: The closest replacements for TeamViewer in our remote desktop software ranking are RustDesk, Splashtop and RemotePC. Choose RustDesk if you want to run the relay server yourself and keep connection data on your own infrastructure. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Remote Desktop Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from TeamViewer.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

TeamViewer

#13 of 13 in our remote desktop software ranking

  • Pricing: Annual auto-renewing subscription for the person offering support; Individual, Teams and Enterprise tiers
  • Established in: Germany
  • Built for: Large organisations that value a familiar brand and enterprise tiers
  • Not for: Small buyers who want monthly flexibility and a quick price check
01

Why buyers look past TeamViewer

  1. 01

An annual subscription that renews itself

TeamViewer states that it sells annual subscriptions that are billed and renewed on an annual basis. That suits a company with a settled number of support staff. It suits a freelancer or a household less well, and a small business that only needs occasional access can end up paying for a full year of a tier it uses lightly.

  2. 02

Three tiers, and the top one is quoted

The pricing page sorts customers into individual users, teams and large enterprises. For the enterprise product, TeamViewer Tensor, licensing is fully customised, so there is no list price to compare. Our retrieval of the plan prices on the page returned no figures, because they load in the browser, and we do not state prices we could not read.

  3. 03

A large platform for a simple job

TeamViewer describes itself as a Digital Workplace platform and its remote product bundles AI-assisted troubleshooting, device management, policies and role-based access. If the job is to reach one office PC from home, most of that is unused. Lighter tools do only that, at a lower price, or free.

When TeamViewer is still the right choice

TeamViewer stays the right choice for an organisation that needs attended and unattended support across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, kiosks and rugged devices in one product, with multi-factor authentication, role-based access and device policies managed centrally. TeamViewer reports more than 620,000 customers and a German operating company in Göppingen.

05

What moving off TeamViewer involves

  1. 01

    Count your unattended devices first

Every alternative installs its own agent on each computer you want to reach without someone present. Make a list of those devices before you cancel, and test the new tool on a few of them. Switching agents on dozens of remote machines is the slow part of the move.

  2. 02

Time the cancellation against the renewal

Because TeamViewer renews annually, the date that matters is the renewal date in your account. Run the new tool in parallel for a few weeks before it, and cancel in the account settings ahead of the date, not on it.
