How these reports are built

Statistics pages in this market have a habit of citing each other until nobody can find the original measurement. We start at the other end. Each report is generated from a primary dataset by a script that is part of this site, so every figure carries its dataset code, reference period and publication date, and can be reproduced by anyone who opens the source.

Where a figure is not a direct reading, it is labelled. Verified means it was read from the named source. Directional means the sources agree on the trend but measure it differently. Single source means one publisher reported it and nobody has corroborated it. Read how we work for the rest.

Every figure across every report is also listed once in the market data index, with a link back to the paragraph it appears in. Need a market we have not covered yet, or the series behind one of these pages? That is what our research services are for.
