Best Domain Registrars in 2026

A domain registrar sells you the right to use a name and keeps the record that says it is yours. The price you see at checkout is rarely the price you pay later, and the exit rules differ more than the features do.

This guide ranks twelve registrars on renewal cost, privacy terms, transfer rules, independence and who each is built for.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this page. It never changes what an entry says about a product, including the criticism, and we earn nothing when you click through to a vendor. How that works.

In short

What domain registrars software does

A domain registrar is an ICANN-accredited company that registers domain names for customers, renews them each year, and manages the contact records, locks and nameserver settings that belong to each name.

How we ranked these

5 criteria, in order

In this order: setup effort, what it really costs, how your data comes back out, whether you can leave, and who each domain registrars tool is built for. One rule sits on top of those tests: Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order. Why those five, and why there is no score out of ten, is on the how we work page.

#1 Netim

Founder-owned French registrar with over 1,300 extensions and an API

Ranked #1 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingEurope

The company page states that Netim is independent, based in France, founded in 2004 and fully owned by its founders, and that domain registration is its main business. That is the strongest independence claim on this list.

The site offers more than 1,300 extensions, including 450+ country-code ones, plus REST and SOAP APIs and modules for WHMCS and Blesta. The trade-off is orientation: the homepage speaks to portfolio owners and resellers first, and prices default to excluding VAT.

What stands out
  • Founder-owned
  • REST and SOAP API
  • 1,300+ extensions
Where it costs you
  • Prices are shown excluding VAT by default, so a consumer checkout total is higher than the headline figure
  • Much of the site targets resellers and brand owners, which adds noise for a one-domain buyer
Right for

Buyers who want a registrar owned by its founders, with an API and many extensions

Wrong for

Anyone who wants hosting and a site builder under one login

#2 Porkbun

ICANN-accredited registrar with USD price list and phone support

Ranked #2 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingElsewhere

The price list shows two figures for many extensions: a first-year sale price and a regular price, with ICANN fees included in both. Free WHOIS privacy, free URL forwarding and free email forwarding are listed as products.

Support is unusually broad, with phone, chat and email, but the contact page puts chat at 9am to 5pm Pacific and email at roughly six hours on average with stretches beyond twelve. The headquarters country is not named anywhere I could find, only the Pacific Northwest.

What stands out
  • Privacy included
  • Phone support
  • Sale prices
Where it costs you
  • First-year sale prices on many extensions are well below the regular price charged afterwards
  • Live chat runs only 9am to 5pm Pacific, and the vendor reports email replies can take over twelve hours

Wrong for

Buyers who need support outside Pacific working hours

#3 Dynadot

Domain registrar with an aftermarket and privacy included on every name

Ranked #3 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingNorth America

Dynadot's pricing table lists register, renew, transfer and privacy columns per extension, with .com the same price to register and renew while .xyz and .shop renew at several times their register price. The page states that all domains include a website builder, custom email and privacy.

About 13 million domains are managed there according to its history page, and a bulk tier begins at 500 dollars of spending. The aftermarket and auctions are part of the same account, which suits traders more than single-site owners.

What stands out
  • Privacy included
  • Bulk tiers
  • Aftermarket
Where it costs you
  • Several extensions register cheaply but renew at a multiple of the first-year price
  • Account benefits and API priority rise with spending, which favours larger portfolios
Right for

Wrong for

Buyers who want to avoid steep second-year price jumps

United StatesPer domain per year, published, with spending-based tiers

#4 Gandi

Paris-based registrar with an ethical-internet stance and DNSSEC on

Ranked #4 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingEurope

The .com page lists LiveDNS with anycast and DNSSEC, 10,000 aliases and forwarding addresses, and a certificate free for the first year with the domain. Owner changes are free and leave the expiry date alone.

The company says it has 135 employees, offices in Paris, Luxembourg, San Francisco and Taipei and customers in 192 countries. Some extensions show a promo register price against a much higher renewal figure, so the table has to be read per extension, not as a flat rate.

What stands out
  • Published prices
  • LiveDNS with DNSSEC
  • Cloud and hosting
Where it costs you
  • Promo prices on some extensions are well below the standard price charged at renewal
  • The ownership statement on the about page dates from 2019, so check it before relying on it
Right for

Wrong for

Anyone who wants the lowest renewal price on every extension

FrancePer domain per year, published, with promo prices

#5 EuroDNS

Luxembourg registrar with SSL, anycast DNS and email on each domain

Ranked #5 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingEurope

EuroDNS lists a .com at a discounted first-year price against a renewal fee about twice as high, with transfers costing the renewal fee but including a one-year extension. Update and trade are listed as free of charge.

Domain privacy is sold separately per year. The three bundled extras (SSL, anycast DNS, branded email) are labelled as free with each domain. The company page states that it is a Luxembourg headquarters and part of the Namespace group, so it is not independent.

What stands out
  • Luxembourg
  • Namespace group
  • Privacy add-on
Where it costs you
  • The renewal fee for a .com is about twice the first-year price shown on the register page
  • Domain privacy is a separate paid add-on, and listed prices exclude VAT
Right for

Buyers who want a European registrar with SSL, DNS and email bundled per domain

Wrong for

Anyone comparing on the headline first-year price alone

LuxembourgPer domain per year, published, excluding VAT, with first-year discounts

#6 Hostpoint

Swiss hosting company and registrar with an optional Domain Shield

Ranked #6 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingEurope

Hostpoint sells domains next to hosting, servers, email and website tools. The Domain Shield page prices the package at 12 francs a year and lists loss protection, misuse protection, anycast DNS and personal address data staying with Hostpoint.

DNS hosting in Switzerland is stated as free for every domain. A portfolio example shows 15 percent off 15 francs per domain at 75 domains. The model suits a Swiss buyer who wants domains and hosting from one company, and less so someone wanting a bare registrar.

What stands out
  • Swiss
  • Domain Shield
  • Portfolio discount
Where it costs you
  • Domain Shield, which hides your address data, is a paid yearly add-on
  • The site is a hosting company first, with domains one product among hosting, servers and office
Right for

Swiss companies that want a local registrar and hosting in one place

Wrong for

Buyers who want privacy included in the base price

SwitzerlandPer domain per year, published in francs including VAT, with portfolio discounts

#7 Loopia

Swedish registrar and web host with krona prices and .se offers

Ranked #7 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingEurope

The Loopia domain page shows current offers in kronor for .se, .com and several newer extensions, and notes that the .se offer prices are valid until 31 December 2026. The about page says Loopia started in 1999 as NetConnect and is Sweden's largest web hosting provider.

The shop is built around hosting, email and a website builder as well as domains. A buyer outside Sweden gets a registrar that is clear about its home market and less so about others.

What stands out
  • Swedish
  • Krona pricing
  • Hosting too
Where it costs you
  • Offers are time-limited, so the figure shown now is not the renewal price
  • Prices are in kronor, which adds a currency step for buyers outside Sweden
Right for

Swedish and Nordic buyers who want .se domains and hosting from one company

Wrong for

Buyers who need a registrar with prices in dollars or euros

SwedenPer domain per year, published in kronor, with temporary offers

#8 Combell

Belgian hosting company with domain promos and mailboxes included

Ranked #8 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingEurope

The domain page leads with promotional first-year prices for .be, .eu, .com and .nl, then lists a mailbox on your domain and a basic site builder with the purchase, marked as a temporary special offer.

Combell's own page says it holds the Belgian market for hosting and runs 24/7 support. That fits a business already in Belgium and wanting email, hosting and domains from a local company. It fits less well a buyer who only wants a registrar without a hosting upsell.

What stands out
  • Belgian
  • 24/7 support
  • Promo prices
Where it costs you
  • The promotional price is temporary, so later renewals are higher than the headline
  • The domain is one item in a hosting and IT catalogue, with Belgian focus
Right for

Belgian and Dutch-speaking businesses that want domains with hosting and email

Wrong for

Buyers who want a registrar with a global, English-first focus

#9 Name.com

Denver registrar owned within Identity Digital, with 24/7 support

Ranked #9 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingNorth America

Name.com sits inside Identity Digital, which its footer describes as a leading domain services company. The pricing page shows two figures per featured extension, a first-term price and a renewal price, with .com at the lower figure first.

The About page says it works from Denver and was founded in 2003, and the nav lists an API, Titan Email, Google Workspace and Wix as add-ons. The group parent is the point to weigh, not the price list.

What stands out
  • Identity Digital
  • 24/7 support
  • API
Where it costs you
  • The featured .com shows a higher renewal price than the first-year price
  • Ownership by a registry-services group matters to buyers who want an unaffiliated registrar
Right for

Buyers who want a US registrar with 24/7 support and an API

Wrong for

Buyers who want a registrar with no registry-group parent

United StatesPer domain per year, published, with separate renewal prices

#10 Hover

Tucows brand with renewal discounts from ten domains and privacy included

Ranked #10 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Pricing on requestNorth America

Hover's about page traces it to Tucows, which began in 1993 and launched Hover in 2009. Renewal discounts run from 25 cents per domain at ten domains to 5 dollars at 400. A transfer has no separate fee but adds one year to the expiry date.

Privacy is included on supported domains, and 2FA is on the transfer page. The ownership is a Tucows brand, so independence is low and the portfolio discount is the main draw.

What stands out
  • Tucows brand
  • WHOIS privacy
  • Portfolio discount
Where it costs you
  • WHOIS privacy only applies to supported domains
  • A transfer into Hover is charged as one additional year of registration
Right for

Account holders with ten or more domains who want renewal discounts

CanadaPer domain per year, in dollars, with renewal discounts by portfolio size

#11 one.com

Hosting company that sells domains as an intermediary to registry partners

Ranked #11 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Pricing on requestEurope

The terms of service say domain names are registered in the customer's own name at the customer's request, and that one.com acts as an intermediary, with the name registered through partners.

That is a sharp difference from a registrar that holds the registration itself. The domains page shows first-year prices and a waived domain on hosting plans, plus a 14-day trial of the builder. The business is hosting first, so the domain follows the hosting.

What stands out
  • Hosting first
  • Intermediary
  • 14-day builder trial
Where it costs you
  • The terms say one.com acts as an intermediary, so the registrar of record is a partner
  • Prices shown are for the first year, and renewal is a separate step to check
Right for

Small sites that want domain and hosting bundled in a single plan

Wrong for

Buyers who want a direct relationship with the registrar of record

SwedenPer domain per year, first-year price shown, domain waived on hosting plans

#12 Cloudflare Registrar

At-cost registrar that requires Cloudflare nameservers on every domain

Ranked #12 of 12 in Best Domain Registrars in 2026.

Published pricingNorth America

The product page says registration, transfer and renewal prices are always at or below what registries and ICANN charge. The FAQ states that no, you cannot use third-party nameservers, and that you must move to another registrar to do so.

Domains are locked by default, one-click DNSSEC is free, and WHOIS redaction is on. An API is in beta, and enterprise customers can add Custom Domain Protection. San Francisco is the stated headquarters.

What stands out
  • At-cost pricing
  • Cloudflare nameservers
  • DNSSEC
Where it costs you
  • All domains must use Cloudflare nameservers; third-party nameservers are not allowed
  • It lists a limited set of supported extensions, so a name may not be available

How to choose domain registrars software

A domain registrar is an ICANN-accredited company that registers domain names for customers, renews them each year, and manages the contact records, locks and nameserver settings that belong to each name. The differences that matter are rarely in the feature list, so this is the order we would work through them.

  1. 01

Decide whether you need a published price

10 of the 12 tools here publish what they cost; the other 2 quote per organisation. The ones you can compare without a sales call: Netim, Porkbun, Dynadot, Gandi, EuroDNS, Hostpoint, Loopia, Combell, Name.com, Cloudflare Registrar.

  2. 02

Decide how much the jurisdiction matters

These 12 vendors are established in 8 countries across 3 regions (Europe 7, North America 4, Elsewhere 1). That decides whose disclosure law applies to what the vendor holds, wherever the servers are.

Domain registrar renewal prices: read the second year, not the first

Every registrar here advertises a low first-year price, and several charge much more at renewal. EuroDNS lists a .com at about half the renewal fee on its register page. Dynadot registers .xyz and .shop cheaply and renews them at several times that figure. Porkbun shows a sale price and a regular price side by side on most extensions, and Name.com does the same for the featured .com.

Cloudflare Registrar and Netim sit at the other end, with at-cost renewals and published pricing. A three-year cost beats the headline figure: it is the registration plus two renewals plus any privacy add-on, with VAT where the site excludes it, as Netim and EuroDNS do by default. Check the extension you actually want, because the table is per extension.

  • Write down the renew column for your extension, not the register column.
  • Add VAT if the site shows prices excluding it.
  • Add the yearly price of privacy if it is not included.

WHOIS privacy: included at Dynadot and Porkbun, paid at EuroDNS and Hostpoint

Privacy terms divide these twelve registrars cleanly. Dynadot states that every domain includes privacy, Porkbun lists free WHOIS privacy as a service, Cloudflare Registrar redacts WHOIS by default, and Hover includes it on supported domains.

EuroDNS sells domain privacy as a separate yearly add-on, and Hostpoint bundles address protection into its yearly Domain Shield package along with loss protection and anycast DNS. A paid add-on changes the second-year bill even where the hidden data is the same. Ask where the contact data is stored, not only whether it is hidden.

  • Check whether privacy is included, redacted by default or an add-on.
  • Confirm that your extension is covered, since Hover limits it to supported domains.
  • Price privacy into the three-year comparison.

Exit rules: Cloudflare Registrar, Hover and EuroDNS handle transfers differently

Leaving a registrar is where terms differ most. Cloudflare Registrar requires its own nameservers on every domain, so using another DNS provider means moving the domain to another registrar. Hover does not charge a transfer fee, but adds one year of registration to the expiry date, and EuroDNS charges the renewal fee for a transfer, with a one-year extension included.

Netim advertises transfers at cost price, and Gandi makes owner changes free without altering the expiry date. Unlock the domain and collect the authorisation code before you start, and note whether the transfer extends your term or just moves it. A registrar that holds the registration directly is easier to leave than one acting as an intermediary.

  • Ask whether a transfer into or out of the registrar costs a year of term.
  • Check whether third-party nameservers are allowed before you commit.
  • Keep the authorisation code and registrant email current.

Registrar or hosting company: Netim, one.com, Loopia and Combell are different animals

Some entries on this list are registrars first and some are hosting companies selling domains. Netim says registration is its core business and that it is owned by its founders. Loopia calls itself Sweden's largest web hosting provider, Combell describes itself as the Belgian hosting market leader, and Hostpoint says the same for Switzerland.

one.com goes furthest: its terms say it acts as an intermediary and registers names through partners, so the registrar of record is not one.com. That matters when something breaks, because a dispute goes to the party that holds the registration. Hosting-first companies make sense when you want everything from one login.

  • Find out who the registrar of record is for your extension.
  • Decide whether you want hosting from the same company.
  • Check that support covers domain problems, not only hosting.

What goes wrong most often when buying domain registrars software

  • Comparing first-year prices and ignoring that EuroDNS, Dynadot and Porkbun charge more at renewal on many extensions.
  • Assuming privacy is included, when EuroDNS and Hostpoint sell it as a yearly add-on.
  • Registering at Cloudflare Registrar and then needing a DNS provider that its rules do not allow.
  • Buying a domain through a hosting package such as one.com without checking who the registrar of record is.

Frequently asked questions

6 answers
What is the best domain registrars in 2026?

Netim leads our ranking of 12. Netim describes itself as independent, French, founded in 2004 and fully owned by its founders, with registration as its core business rather than a side line to hosting.

Transfers are offered at cost price and first-year offers start low. The pitch leans toward portfolios and resellers, with WHOIS tools, billing-platform modules and dotBrand services, which someone buying a single domain will not use. Prices default to excluding VAT.

Which domain registrars tools publish their pricing?

10 of the 12, with the pricing model each one publishes:

  • Netim: Per domain per year, published, with first-year offers.
  • Porkbun: Per domain per year, published, with first-year sale prices.
  • Dynadot: Per domain per year, published, with spending-based tiers.
  • Gandi: Per domain per year, published, with promo prices.
  • EuroDNS: Per domain per year, published, excluding VAT, with first-year discounts.
  • Hostpoint: Per domain per year, published in francs including VAT, with portfolio discounts.
  • Loopia: Per domain per year, published in kronor, with temporary offers.
  • Combell: Per domain per year, published in euros, with promotional prices.
  • Name.com: Per domain per year, published, with separate renewal prices.
  • Cloudflare Registrar: At cost, per domain per year, published, no markup on registry fees.

The other 2 quote per organisation.

Is there a free domain registrars tool?

No. None of the 12 offer a usable free tier.

Where are these domain registrars vendors established?

In 8 countries across 3 regions: Europe 7, North America 4, Elsewhere 1.

  • Netim: France.
  • Porkbun: Not stated by the vendor.
  • Dynadot: United States.
  • Gandi: France.
  • EuroDNS: Luxembourg.
  • Hostpoint: Switzerland.
  • Loopia: Sweden.
  • Combell: Belgium.
  • Name.com: United States.
  • Hover: Canada.
  • one.com: Sweden.
  • Cloudflare Registrar: United States.
What should you use instead of Netim?

Porkbun and Dynadot are the next two on this page. Porkbun is for Domain buyers who want a plain price list, privacy included and phone support; Dynadot is for small portfolios that want privacy included and an aftermarket in the same account.

Who should not buy Netim?

Anyone who wants hosting and a site builder under one login. Prices are shown excluding VAT by default, so a consumer checkout total is higher than the headline figure.
