Porkbun vs Dynadot

Both registrars publish a per-extension price list in US dollars, but they differ in what surrounds the name. Porkbun answers by phone, chat and email, and folds ICANN fees into every listed price. Dynadot ties extra account benefits to cumulative spending and runs an aftermarket with auctions inside the same login. The sharpest gap is on cheap launch extensions, where Dynadot shows .shop at USD 1.49 to register and USD 32.32 to renew. Read the renewal column on either site before you buy a name you intend to keep, since opening prices mislead.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

  1. 01

From USD 1.49 to USD 32.32 on the second invoice

Porkbun lists .xyz at USD 2.04 for the first year and USD 14.21 afterwards, .app at USD 8.75 then USD 14.93, and .io at USD 28.12 then USD 51.80. Dynadot shows .xyz at USD 1.99 to register and USD 14.45 to renew, and .shop at USD 1.49 then USD 32.32. The .shop jump is the steepest example listed, more than twenty times the opening figure. For a name you mean to keep, the renewal column matters more than the headline, and Porkbun's examples jump less.

The .com line and the currency switch

On .com the lists sit close together. Porkbun shows USD 11.81 for the first year, and its .com renewal figure is nowhere in the material we checked. Dynadot shows USD 11.62 to register, renew and transfer, so one number covers all three actions. Porkbun states that its prices include ICANN and other fees. Dynadot defaults to USD but lets you switch to EUR, CNY, CAD, MXN, GBP, BRL, INR or IDR, with a warning that exchange rates can move the displayed figure.

    Edge: Dynadot

  3. 03

Phone, chat and a six-hour email average

Porkbun's contact page names three channels: phone support, live chat staffed daily from 9am to 5pm Pacific, and email support around the clock. It reports an average email reply of about six hours, sometimes over twelve. That is a plain statement of what to expect, including the weak spot for buyers outside the Pacific day. For Dynadot we found no phone number, chat hours or email response times, so speed cannot be compared. Buyers who rely on phone help should ask Dynadot directly.

  4. 04

    Regular, Bulk and Superbulk levels

Dynadot sorts accounts by money spent, not by subscription. Regular starts at USD 0 with 10 daily domain appraisals, 1,000 daily bulk searches and 25 daily Whois lookups. Bulk starts at USD 500 with 100 appraisals, 2,000 searches and 100 lookups. Superbulk starts at USD 5,000 with 1,000 appraisals, 5,000 searches, 250 lookups, early access to sales and a dedicated account manager. Porkbun lists no spending tiers in what we checked, which is simpler for a single-site owner and less rewarding for a trader.

    Edge: Dynadot

  5. 05

What comes with the name at no charge

Porkbun lists free WHOIS privacy, Let's Encrypt SSL certificates with automatic renewal, DNS management powered by Cloudflare, permanent, temporary and masked URL forwarding, and up to 20 email forwards. Dynadot states that every domain includes a website builder, a custom email address and domain privacy, though the page does not say for how long. Neither page names a free plan or trial. The bundles differ in kind, so the better one depends on whether you need forwarding and certificates or a builder and a mailbox.

    Depends on the buyer

  6. 06

Search caps, carts and a USD 200 restore fee

Porkbun caps bulk search at 100 domains at a time, 100 extensions per search and 100 domains in a cart. Restoring a domain from the Redemption Grace Period costs USD 200 on top of the renewal price. Dynadot's Regular tier allows 1,000 bulk searches a day, and we found no restoration fee listed, so that charge cannot be compared. Anyone screening names in volume will hit Porkbun's cart limit sooner, while a careless renewal date is the costlier mistake at Porkbun.

    Edge: Dynadot

When neither fits

If you want a registrar that states a European base in its own pages, neither of these is the obvious route. Gandi and EuroDNS appear in our registrar category as alternatives worth reading next.

Porkbun or Dynadot: questions

3 answers
Does a cheap Dynadot name stay cheap in year two?

Not always. The pricing page shows .com at USD 11.62 for register and renew, but .xyz renews at USD 14.45 and .shop at USD 32.32. Check the renew column for your extension first.

Where is each company based?

Dynadot Inc is a Californian corporation, founded in 2002 according to its about page.

Porkbun LLC lists an address in Tigard, Oregon, and its about page says only that it is based in the Pacific Northwest. Both are therefore United States companies by their own pages.

Which one is simpler for a single website?

Porkbun's one price list with fees included and free privacy, SSL and forwarding is the easier read.

Dynadot also includes privacy, a builder and an email address, but adds spend tiers and an aftermarket you may never open. Either works for one domain once you have checked the renewal price.
