Resend vs Postmark

Resend and Postmark each send transactional mail through an API, and each sits with an American operator, yet their price ladders point in opposite directions. Resend gives away 3,000 emails a month, then jumps to a $20 plan with 50,000 emails. Postmark gives only 100 a month for free, then sells three paid tiers that each begin at 10,000 emails for $15 to $18. Resend counts domains and daily limits as meters, while Postmark charges per extra thousand emails and for extras such as dedicated IPs and longer log retention.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

Plus Five Five and AC PM

Resend is operated by Plus Five Five, Inc., whose terms fall under California law, and the pages we read state no registered address or country. Postmark is operated by AC PM, LLC, with a Chicago address in its terms, Illinois law and arbitration in Cook County, and its site links to ActiveCampaign without naming an owner. Both are American operators on the evidence we have. Postmark gives a fuller postal address, so Postmark is easier to place on a map.

  2. 02

    3,000 free emails against 100

Resend's free plan allows 3,000 emails a month, capped at 100 a day, with three domains and 30 days of data retention. Postmark's free plan allows 100 emails a month, no overages, 6 users and 10 domains, and it does not expire. For an app in development, 100 emails run out after one afternoon of testing. Resend leaves you far more room, even with the daily cap, and neither vendor offers a time-limited trial, so only the free tier lets you try either.

    What a busy month costs

Resend Pro costs $20 a month for 50,000 emails, with extra mail at $0.90 per thousand, and Scale begins at $90 for 100,000 emails. Postmark Basic costs $15 for 10,000 emails and charges $1.80 per extra thousand, falling to $1.30 on Pro at $16.50 and $1.20 on Platform at $18. At 50,000 emails Resend is the cheaper route on the figures we read. Postmark overage rates, though, drop as you climb its tiers, so the gap narrows on Pro or Platform.

  4. 04

Dedicated IPs and who can have one

A dedicated IP on Resend is a $30 monthly add-on that appears only on Scale, so a team on Pro must upgrade first. Postmark lists dedicated IPs from $50 a month per IP, and only for senders at 300,000 emails a month or more on Pro or higher. Its homepage claims strong deliverability without paying for one. Resend sells the IP at a lower price but behind a tier, while Postmark sets a volume bar that small senders will not meet.

  5. 05

    Log retention and inbound mail

Postmark Basic keeps 45 days of message history, and Pro raises that to as much as 365 days. Pro also lists inbound email processing, and Message Streams split promotional sends from transactional ones on separate infrastructure. Resend lists 30 days of retention on its free plan and its pricing text mentions no inbound processing. A team that needs searchable history for support questions finds more to work with at Postmark, where custom retention starts at $5 a month.

    Developer tooling and integrations

Resend sends one message per POST call with a Bearer API key or batches up to 100 messages in a request. Its SDKs cover Node.js, Python, PHP, Ruby, Go, Java, Laravel, Rust and .NET, and React Email lets you write templates as React components. Domain verification uses SPF, DKIM and DMARC, with webhooks for delivery events. Postmark offers API and SMTP sending with libraries for Node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP and .NET, so Resend lists more languages and the template approach.

Resend or Postmark: questions

3 answers
At what volume does Postmark beat Resend?

On the list prices we read, Postmark does not undercut Resend at 50,000 emails, where Resend Pro is $20. Postmark's advantage is a lower base of 10,000 emails for $15 and falling overage rates. Work out your own monthly volume against both ladders before choosing.

Does Resend offer a free trial?

No, there is no free trial, only a free-forever plan on each track. The transactional plan gives 3,000 emails a month and the marketing plan gives 1,000 contacts. Self-serve plans are billed monthly only.

Can I keep mail streams apart on either service?

Postmark offers Message Streams, which separate broadcast sends from transactional ones. Resend's pricing text does not describe an equivalent feature by that name. Resend has separate transactional and marketing plan tracks instead.
