pretix vs Tito

Both charge per ticket sold with no monthly subscription, and both come from small European companies, one in Heidelberg and one in Dublin. The gap sits in scope and in who runs the software. pretix offers the same product as a hosted service or as code you run on your own server, and it sells check-in, seating, point of sale and exhibitor lead scanning as separate pieces. Tito stays closer to registration alone, with embeddable ticket widgets, discount codes, invitations and an API, and it takes a slightly higher percentage with a higher cap per ticket.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

pretix 4 · Tito 1 · open 1
  1. 01

Cost of a 100 euro ticket versus a 900 euro one

On the pricing pages we read, pretix takes 2.5% of the ticket price excluding taxes, never more than 15 euro per ticket. Tito takes 3% per ticket, capped at 25 euro. A 100 euro ticket therefore carries 2.50 euro at pretix and 3.00 euro at Tito. On a 900 euro ticket pretix reaches its 15 euro ceiling, while Tito charges 25 euro because 3% would be 27. Payment provider fees come on top at both vendors.

    Edge: pretix

  2. 02

    Free tickets and quiet years

pretix lets 500 free tickets a year pass at no charge, with the allowance rising by one for each paid ticket sold, and then asks 0.50 euro per free ticket. Tito charges no fee on free events at all, which suits meetups that never sell a ticket. Neither has a monthly fee. A community that issues a few thousand free places a year pays at pretix and nothing at Tito.

  3. 03

Run it yourself or let them run it

pretix publishes most of its code under the GNU AGPL v3 with supplementary terms and states that a self-hosted deployment is an alternative to the hosted service. That means your own server, your own updates and a licence you should read first. Tito is described on its pages only as a service, and the pages we read mention no self-hosted option. Teams with a data residency rule or an in-house admin will care about this difference.

  4. 04

What sits beside the ticket shop

pretix lists a ticket shop, seating, pretixSCAN for check-in, pretixLEAD for exhibitor lead scanning, pretixPOS for point of sale and a kiosk app. Lead scanning costs 25 euro per exhibitor. Tito lists ticket types, discount codes, invitations, check-in, an API, a widget embed and integrations. If you run a trade show with stands, the pretix list is closer to the job. If you only need to sell and admit people, both cover it.

    Edge: pretix

  5. 05

    Payments and invoices

Tito requires you to connect your own Stripe or PayPal account, and Stripe processing fees are separate from the Tito fee. pretix also adds payment provider fees to its percentage, and it charges 0.20 euro per invoice for Peppol and e-invoicing. The pretix pricing page does not tie the shop to one payment company in the pages we read. For an organiser who already has a Stripe account, Tito is simple. For anyone who needs e-invoicing, pretix names it.

    Who stands behind the product

pretix is a single-product firm, pretix GmbH, registered in Heidelberg, Germany. Tito is Team Tito Limited of Dublin, Ireland, privately held with Enterprise Ireland support and private investors, and its About page puts the team at six. Neither site names an attendee app, which is a shared gap. A six-person team can answer quickly, but it is also a small group to depend on for a yearly flagship event.

    Depends on the buyer

When neither fits

If you need an attendee networking app, an agenda builder or a full conference platform, neither pretix nor Tito is described that way on its own pages. Ticket Tailor and Eventbrite are two other tools in our event management list worth checking against your brief.

pretix or Tito: questions

3 answers
At what ticket price does the per-ticket cap start to matter?

At pretix the cap of 15 euro applies once 2.5% would exceed it, which is a ticket of 600 euro. At Tito the 25 euro cap applies from roughly 833 euro at the standard 3% rate. Below those prices the percentage is what you pay.

Can a charity get a lower rate at either vendor?

Tito states a 2.5% rate for charity, non-profit and community events, granted on application. The pretix pricing page we read gives one pay-as-you-go rate and does not describe a charity discount. Ask pretix directly if that matters.

Do I need a payment account of my own before selling anything?

With Tito you must connect Stripe or PayPal first, and Stripe's processing fee is separate. pretix says payment provider fees apply on top of its percentage. Either way, plan for two layers of fees on paid tickets.
