RingCentral alternatives: 11 business phone systems compared

People look for a RingCentral alternative when a phone system turns into a stack of separately priced parts. RingCentral's own pricing page lists per-user RingEX plans, then AI Receptionist, Conversational Intelligence and the queue and SMS boosters as add-ons, and the per-user amounts are not shown in text we could read. Buyers move to flat per-user plans, to licences priced per system, or to quoted platforms.

Short answer: The first three alternatives to RingCentral in our business phone system ranking are Dialpad, Nextiva and Quo (formerly OpenPhone). Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order. Choose Dialpad if you want published per-user tiers close to a RingEX-style bundle with AI call summaries included. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Business Phone Systems in 2026, and each says where it differs from RingCentral.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

RingCentral

#11 of 12 in our business phone system ranking

  • Pricing: Per user per month with an annual discount; add-ons priced separately; 14-day trial
  • Established in: United States
  • Built for: Multi-site organisations wanting admin controls and many app integrations
  • Not for: Small offices wanting one flat price including texting

Why buyers look past RingCentral

  1. 01

Add-ons are priced on top of the plan

RingCentral's pricing page says you can extend any RingEX plan. AI Receptionist starts at $39, Conversational Intelligence at $60, the Call Queues Booster is $35 and the Business SMS Booster is $25, with the last two bundled in a Customer Engagement Bundle. A team that needs queues, texting and AI together builds a bill from four lines before it has compared anything.

  2. 02

Per-user prices are not readable in the page text

The page tells visitors they can save up to 33% by paying annually, but the plan prices are not in the text we fetched, and the same page points to a team that will build a bundle and give a custom quote. A buyer who wants to compare list prices across vendors has to run the plan selector first, and a quote path sits on the page next to it.

  3. 03

    A short trial with limits

The 14-day trial covers up to 20 phone lines and up to two desk phones, and SMS is not available during it. Trial hardware must be returned within 21 days of cancelling to avoid charges. Unlimited calling is stated for the US and Canada only, and other international calls need separate plans or bundles, which matters for a team with calls abroad.

What each one does differently

Dialpad

United States · Per user per month in two tiers plus Enterprise on contact, published; 14-day trial

Publishes Standard at $15, Pro at $25 and an Enterprise tier on request for Dialpad Connect, with a 14-day trial. Pro adds key CRM integrations and 24/7 support, and SSO and unlimited office locations start at Enterprise. Its contact-centre and sales products are priced separately, from $39 and $89 per user, so it is not a single-price suite.

Switch from RingCentral if you want published per-user tiers close to a RingEX-style bundle with AI call summaries included.

Dialpad, #9 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

Nextiva

United States · Per user per month in three small-business tiers, published; no trial stated

Shows NEXT Core from $15 per user per month with a 35% annual discount, Engage at $25 and Scale at $75, and charges $1.50 per AI conversation (XBert) on top. Core caps business SMS at 100 per user per month; unlimited SMS starts at Scale. Its site calls it a SOC 2 certified, HIPAA compliant platform and mentions Scottsdale, Arizona.

Switch from RingCentral if you want published small-business tiers with team inboxes and CRM-style features at the entry level.

Nextiva, #8 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

Quo (formerly OpenPhone)

United States · Per user per month in three tiers, published; 7-day trial

Sold as Quo, with Starter at $19, Business at $33 and Scale at $47 per user per month on its pricing page and a 7-day trial. Every plan includes one new or ported number per user, and calling and messaging cover US and Canadian numbers. AI call summaries start at Business. It is a small-team texting-and-calls tool, not a PBX with desk-phone fleets.

Switch from RingCentral if your team is small, works on mobile and wants a number per person with texting built in.

Quo (formerly OpenPhone), #4 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

3CX

Cyprus · Annual licence per system by simultaneous calls, published; hosting charged separately; trial offered

Charges one annual licence per system by simultaneous calls, not per user: 8 simultaneous calls on the Basic edition is listed at $300 a year. Hosting by 3CX is charged separately, and you may instead self-host on Windows or Linux, including on AWS, Azure, Google or DigitalOcean. You carry more administration yourself than with RingCentral.

Switch from RingCentral if you have 25 or more users and want a flat annual system price you can host yourself.

3CX, #5 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

Wildix

Estonia · Quoted per organisation; monthly, yearly or five-year terms

Quoted per organisation through a request form, with four mixable plans (PBX-Basic, UC-Essential, UC-Business, UC-Premium) and monthly, yearly or five-year terms. The page describes cloud-hosted offerings and mentions no trial, only a demo. Its holding company is listed in Tallinn, Estonia, with offices in Coventry and Columbus, Ohio.

Switch from RingCentral if you buy through a partner and want to mix plan levels per user inside one system.

Wildix, #6 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

GoTo Connect

Not stated by the vendor · Quoted per organisation; demo and custom quote

Pricing is not shown: five plans (Phone System, Phone System plus AI Receptionist, Customer Experience, CX Complete, Contact Center) all say contact sales, with a demo rather than a trial. Phone System lists free calls to 50 countries, unlimited auto attendants and queues, and video meetings for up to 250 people. The page does not state a headquarters.

Switch from RingCentral if you want video meetings for up to 250 people bundled with the phone system and accept a quote.

GoTo Connect, #10 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

Zoom Phone

United States · Per user per month in three plans; trial only for existing Zoom Phone customers

Listed on Zoom's site under Zoom Workplace next to Meetings, Chat and Mail. We could not retrieve a Zoom Phone pricing page, so check plans and trial terms yourself. Choosing it mostly makes sense for an organisation already running Zoom Workplace, since the phone product then sits in the same account and admin console as the meetings.

Switch from RingCentral if your staff already live in Zoom and you want the phone in the same account.

Zoom Phone, #12 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

CloudTalk

Slovakia · Per user per month in four tiers, published; 14-day trial

Built for call-centre style teams, with Starter at €25, Essential at €29 and Expert at €49 per user per month billed annually (€34, €39 and €69 monthly). Expert needs at least three licences, and parallel dialing, conversation intelligence and spam remediation are add-ons. It offers a 14-day trial. It is aimed at outbound sales and support, not office telephony.

Switch from RingCentral if you run outbound or support calling and want a dialer more than an office phone system.

CloudTalk, #2 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

OnSIP

United States · Per user per month with a five-user minimum, or a per-account basic plan; add-ons published

Unlimited plan at $18.95 per user per month with a five-user minimum, or a pay-as-you-go account at $49.95 per month without calling minutes. Call recording, ring groups and queues are priced per item on a published list, such as $14.95 per ring group a month. The site shows Junction Networks as the operator.

Switch from RingCentral if you want an itemised price list and a five-user plan with desk phones and headsets included.

OnSIP, #3 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

Telzio

Not stated by the vendor · Usage-based with a custom plan from sales; trial arranged through sales

Usage-based, with unlimited users and queues, call flows and an SMS inbox listed as included features and a custom plan from sales. The site shows a toll-free number and a trial arranged through sales, and Telzio, Inc. as the company. It positions itself for small teams and healthcare practices. We found no per-user list price on the page.

Switch from RingCentral if you have many light users, such as a large agent pool, and want to pay for usage instead of seats.

Telzio, #7 of 12 in our business phone system ranking →

sipgate

Germany · Per user per month in three business tiers, published; 30-day trial

German provider with business S at €12.95, L at €17.95 and XL at €22.95 per user per month (minimum two users, excluding VAT), a 30-day trial and monthly termination. It says the telephone system is hosted in Germany. Calling prices to German landline start at 0.84 cent per minute and are listed on the page; it is a German-market product with a contact centre as an option.

Switch from RingCentral if most of your calls are in Germany and you want hosting there with a short trial and monthly notice.

When RingCentral is still the right choice

RingCentral remains the sensible choice when you need one vendor for phone, team messaging, video meetings, fax and a contact centre, and you value having add-ons such as AI Receptionist and Conversational Intelligence from the same supplier. Its page states unlimited calling to the US and Canada, more than 330 integrations and a Microsoft Teams calling option. If you mainly call in the US and want to buy once, the quote effort may be worth it.

05

What moving off RingCentral involves

  1. 01

Keep your numbers and port them first

Most buyers keep their existing phone numbers, so ask the new vendor how porting works before you cancel anything. OnSIP's published list charges $15 per number to port plus $2 a month per number, and sipgate's page promises free number porting, so the cost depends on the vendor you choose.

  2. 02

    Count what you actually use

RingCentral separates plan, queue booster, SMS booster and AI add-ons. Before you shortlist a replacement, list which of these your team uses today. A tool such as Quo covers texting and calls but not the same call-queue depth, and Dialpad prices its contact-centre product separately from Connect.

  3. 03

Check desk phones and the trial hardware rules

If you run RingCentral desk phones, check that the replacement supports them or that new ones are included. RingCentral requires trial hardware to be returned within 21 days of cancellation, so settle returns and any hardware charges before the switch date.

Questions about replacing RingCentral

6 answers
What does RingCentral charge on top of the plan?

According to its pricing page, AI Receptionist starts at $39, Conversational Intelligence at $60, Call Queues Booster is $35 and Business SMS Booster is $25. The per-user plan prices were not readable in the page text we fetched, so check them in the plan selector.

Does RingCentral have a free trial?

Yes. The page describes a 14-day trial for new subscribers with up to 20 phone lines and up to 2 desk phones. SMS is not available in the trial, and trial hardware must be returned within 21 days of cancelling.

Which alternative publishes the clearest prices?

Dialpad (Standard $15, Pro $25), Nextiva (Core from $15, Engage $25, Scale $75), Quo ($19, $33, $47), CloudTalk (€25, €29, €49 billed annually) and sipgate (€12.95 to €22.95) all publish per-user amounts. Wildix and GoTo Connect quote, and Telzio sells usage-based with sales.

Which alternative can I host myself?

3CX is the one we verified: its site offers Windows or Linux installs, hosted by 3CX or self-hosted on Amazon, DigitalOcean, Azure or Google. It prices by simultaneous calls per system, so a 25-user office is not billed per seat.

Which alternatives suit a small team?

Quo is built for small teams with a number per person and 7-day trial, OnSIP needs five users or a $49.95 per account basic plan, and Nextiva's entry tier is for small teams. Telzio talks of small businesses and healthcare practices, with no list price.

Is the Zoom Phone price available?

We could not retrieve a Zoom Phone pricing page on the day of checking. Zoom lists Phone among the Zoom Workplace products, so ask Zoom or a reseller for current plans and trial terms.
