Perplexity alternatives: 11 AI chatbots and assistants tools compared
People look for a Perplexity alternative when the Free tier stops covering their research, when advanced-model access on Pro is rationed, or when a per-seat Enterprise bill (or a separate API bill) does not fit a team. They move to a general assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Mistral Le Chat, to a suite-bundled assistant, or to an API-first search vendor.
Short answer: The first three alternatives to Perplexity in our AI chatbots and assistants ranking are Mistral Le Chat, Claude and ChatGPT. Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order. Choose Mistral Le Chat if you want a European vendor with team data export and an on-premises route. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best AI Chatbots and Assistants in 2026, and each says where it differs from Perplexity.
Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say
about a product. How that works.
Pricing: Free, Pro and Max plans published; Enterprise priced separately
Established in: United States
Built for: Researchers who want every answer shown with its sources and links
Not for: Teams wanting one fixed model behind every answer
01
Why buyers look past Perplexity
01
The Free tier is a sampler, and Pro has its own ceilings
Perplexity's plan guide says the Free (Standard) tier has practically unlimited basic searches but only a very limited number of Pro Searches, no advanced AI models and limited file uploads. Pro adds extended Pro Search, yet Create files and apps queries are a limited amount every 30 days, and advanced-model queries may be limited in weeks of especially heavy usage.
02
Team and API costs sit in separate lines
Enterprise Pro is priced at 40 USD per seat per month or 400 USD per year, and Enterprise Max at 325 USD per seat per month or 3,250 USD per year. API usage is not included in either plan and is bought as credits that administrators cannot manage for other users. A team that wants chat and programmatic search therefore budgets two things.
03
The model list is a moving snapshot
The models Perplexity offers come from several providers, and its own article describes the list as a snapshot dated 17 October 2026 that is not a commitment to keep any model. Buyers who want one named model for a year, with its own vendor's terms and admin tools, can go to that vendor's assistant directly.

What each one does differently

Mistral Le Chat
France · Free, Pro and Team plans published; Enterprise by sales
Mistral's pricing page lists Free, Pro, Team at 24.99 USD per user per month, and Enterprise. Team includes up to 30GB storage per user, data export and domain verification. Enterprise can be deployed in a private cloud or on-premises. It is a model vendor's own assistant, not a search engine built around citations.
Switch from Perplexity if you want a European vendor with team data export and an on-premises route.
United States · Free, Pro and Max plans published; per-seat Team and Enterprise
Anthropic's own assistant. Web search is available on the Free plan, Pro is 17 USD a month on annual billing (20 USD monthly), and Max starts at 100 USD. Free allows up to 5 Projects. Research is a Pro feature. It answers from one model family, where Perplexity lets you switch between several.
Switch from Perplexity if you want one vendor's models with Projects, Artifacts and file creation.
Not stated by the vendor · Free, Go, Plus, Pro and Business plans published; Enterprise by sales
OpenAI's assistant. We could not read its pricing page (it returns a bot check), so compare the Free, Go, Plus, Pro and Business plans on chatgpt.com. It is a general assistant with its own models, not a search product that names its models per answer.
Switch from Perplexity if you already work in ChatGPT and want one assistant for writing, code and web questions.
United States · Free tier with Google account; AI Plus, Pro and Ultra published
Google's assistant, sold inside Google AI plans: Plus at 4.99 EUR a month, Pro at 21.99 EUR and Ultra from 99.99 EUR on the Dutch page we read. Paid plans add cloud storage and Gemini inside Gmail and Docs. The price therefore buys a Google account bundle as well as an assistant.
Switch from Perplexity if your team lives in Google Workspace apps and wants the assistant inside them.
United States · API per call published; chat pricing not found on its site
The pricing page we read is for APIs: Web Search at 5 USD per 1,000 calls, Answer at 5 USD per 1,000 calls with sources, and a free MCP tier of 100 queries a day. A Chat Platform sign-in exists, but we found no chat plan prices. It is built for developers.
Switch from Perplexity if you want cited web answers inside your own product, billed per call.
United States · Bundled in Microsoft 365 subscriptions, published; business add-on per user
Microsoft prices Copilot as part of its individual plans: Personal 9.99 USD, Family 12.99 USD, Premium 19.99 USD and Pro 99.99 USD a month on the page we read. Copilot works in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. On Family, AI features are for the subscription owner only.
Switch from Perplexity if your work is in Microsoft 365 and you want the assistant in those apps.
Not stated by the vendor · Free, Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra tiers published; team seats
xAI's assistant at grok.com, which offers a Fast mode and an image tool called Imagine. Its pricing and company pages blocked our requests, so we cannot confirm tiers or limits. Check plans on the vendor site before you compare it with Perplexity's Pro and Max tiers.
Switch from Perplexity if you want a different model family and are willing to check its plan limits yourself.
United States · Points-based message limits; subscription prices not seen on the vendor site
A platform where creators build and share AI applications, with bots that others query. Poe's creator documentation describes a monetisation programme that pays creators per message. We could not read consumer pricing, so the subscription cost is unconfirmed. It aggregates bots, where Perplexity is one search product.
Switch from Perplexity if you want to try many bots from different creators in one place.
Not stated by the vendor · Meta states core use stays free; paid Meta One tiers published
Meta's assistant at meta.ai. Its site did not return readable page text to us, so plans, limits and search features are unconfirmed from the vendor. Treat it as a consumer product to test directly and read its terms before using it for work that includes client data.
Switch from Perplexity if you want to test a Meta assistant yourself before ruling it in or out.
China · Per-token API published; chat plans not shown on its site
The vendor's API documentation lists per-token pricing: deepseek-flash costs 0.15 USD per million cache-miss input tokens and 0.60 USD per million output tokens off-peak, double at peak. Its terms are governed by the law of mainland China. Chat plans are not shown on its site.
Switch from Perplexity if you build on an API and are comfortable with Chinese-law terms of service.
China · Membership tiers and business edition; prices not readable without JavaScript
Moonshot AI's Kimi, with Kimi K3 described as a 2.8T-parameter model with a 1M-token context on the company page. The site also lists Kimi Business and a Kimi API platform with per-token pricing. Consumer plan prices render only with JavaScript, so we did not read them.
Switch from Perplexity if you want very long context and agent features from a Chinese lab.
Perplexity remains the better fit when your main job is asking web questions and reading answers with linked sources, and when you value switching between models from several providers in one subscription. Its Enterprise tiers add SCIM, audit logs and configurable data retention for organisations, and its agreements with third-party model providers prohibit training on Perplexity data. If an alternative cannot show sources per answer in a way your reviewers accept, staying costs less than rebuilding the habit.

What moving off Perplexity involves
01
Export what you want to keep
Perplexity lets you export an answer as PDF, Markdown or DOCX from the session. Some threads are temporary: incognito threads expire after 24 hours and threads created while logged out expire after 14 days. Account deletion has a 30-day window. Export first, then cancel.
02
Test your five real questions on the new tool
Take five recent searches where you needed sources and run them in each shortlisted assistant, free tier first. Compare whether the sources are shown per answer, which plan unlocks research mode, and which limits you hit. Perplexity also lists premium data sources such as Statista and FactSet, so check whether your replacement reaches the same material.

Questions about replacing Perplexity
7 answers
Is Perplexity free?
It has a Free (Standard) tier with practically unlimited basic searches, a very limited amount of Pro Searches, limited file uploads and no advanced AI models, according to its plan guide.
Paid tiers are Pro, Max and Education Pro, plus Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max for organisations.
What does Perplexity Enterprise cost?
Enterprise Pro is 40 USD per seat per month or 400 USD per year. Enterprise Max is 325 USD per seat per month or 3,250 USD per year.
Discounts may be available for 250 or more members, schools, not-for-profits and government agencies. API usage is not included.
Which Perplexity alternative has the cheapest paid plan?
On the pages we could read, Google AI Plus is 4.99 EUR a month and Microsoft Copilot Personal is 9.99 USD a month, but both are bundles with storage or Office apps.
Claude Pro is 17 USD a month on annual billing. Compare what each bundle includes, not only the headline price.
Which alternatives offer web search on a free plan?
Claude lists web search on its Free plan. Mistral's Free plan includes limited web searches. You.com offers 100 Web Search API queries a day through MCP without an account. Limits differ, so test with your own questions.
Is there an alternative that can run in my own environment?
Mistral states that its Enterprise plan supports custom deployments (self-hosted, private cloud or on-premises) and that its models can be self-hosted. The other assistants we read are hosted by the vendor.
Can I use a Chinese assistant for business research?
DeepSeek's terms state that they are governed by the laws of mainland China and name Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd. as the provider. Read those terms and your own data policy before sending client material.
Will my chats train the model?
Perplexity says its agreements with third-party model providers prohibit training on Perplexity data. Claude's Free, Pro and Max plans list model training as opt-out, and Mistral's plans list it as opt-out. Check each vendor's terms for your plan.
