Crayon vs Meltwater
Crayon and Meltwater both sell by quote, but they point at different desks. Crayon is aimed at sales teams, with AI-scored news summaries and battlecards that show up in Salesforce, Slack and Highspot. Meltwater is aimed at communications work, with news and social listening, media relations and influencer marketing under one contract. Meltwater also tells you its terms, four named plans and a 12-month minimum, while Crayon's pages we read show no tiers, no trial and no country. Which one fits depends on whether the reader of the intelligence is a rep or a press officer.
Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.
you run a sales organisation and want competitor battlecards delivered inside Salesforce, Slack or Highspot, where reps already work. You can live with a price that only arrives after an estimate request.
you sit in communications or PR and want news monitoring, social listening and media relations in a single agreement. You are comfortable committing to a contract of at least 12 months after a guided demo.

Where they differ
Crayon 1 · Meltwater 4 · open 1- 01
Where the intelligence lands
Crayon's homepage says its battlecards appear in Salesforce, Slack, Highspot and other tools, and a testimonial also mentions Microsoft Teams. It adds AI news summarization, AI importance scoring and win/loss analysis. Meltwater's pages name Slack or Teams alerts when volume or sentiment shifts on its social listening product, and the homepage names no integrations. For a rep who needs a card at the moment of a call, Crayon is the closer fit.
Edge: Crayon
- 02
Twelve months before you have tested it
Meltwater states that most partnerships run on annual agreements with a minimum contract length of 12 months, and that onboarding or implementation fees may apply to enterprise setups. Crayon's pages we read say nothing about contract length, so the term is something to ask for in writing before any estimate turns into a signature. Meltwater is the more open about commitment, which is also the heavier one. We do not score either side on flexibility, because Crayon's terms are unknown.
Depends on the buyer
- 03
What a quote depends on
Meltwater says tailored pricing depends on sources, regions, data volume, users, integrations, onboarding and contract terms, across Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency, all marked Contact Sales. Crayon says its price is tailored to the needs of your competitive intelligence program and that the number of assets or stakeholders does not matter, but it gives no figures. Neither publishes a price. Meltwater at least lists what moves the number, which helps you prepare the questions and the internal budget before the first call.
Edge: Meltwater

Trial, demo or neither
Meltwater says it offers no self-serve free trial, but a free, human-guided demo can be requested. Crayon offers Request an Estimate and Get a Demo, and the pricing page and homepage we read mention neither a free plan nor a free trial. In practice both start with a conversation with a salesperson. Meltwater is clearer, since it states outright what you get and what you do not, so you know where you stand before you ask.

Who the legal entity is
Meltwater's privacy policy names Meltwater the Netherlands B.V as main establishment for EU data protection purposes. Its investor page puts the headquarters in San Francisco, adding that the firm began in Oslo in 2001 and was delisted from Oslo Bors on 4 August 2023. Crayon's footer shows only a copyright line and the name CRAYON, Inc, with no address, and its privacy link returned a 404. Meltwater is more transparent here, though not European-owned in the way the name suggests.

Breadth of the module list
Meltwater lists Media Intelligence, Social Listening, AI Visibility Tracking, Media Relations and Influencer Marketing, the last two on Enterprise and Agency, and says API and MCP integrations come with Pro, Enterprise and Agency. Its about page cites 50 offices and 27,000 customers. Crayon is narrower, centred on battlecards and news scoring for sales. If you want one vendor to cover press, social and influencers, Meltwater has the wider list, while a focused sales tool is a different job.
Edge: Meltwater
When neither fits
If you want a competitor tool that sits closer to sales enablement than either of these, or a lighter-weight tracker, look at Klue and Kompyte. Neither Crayon nor Meltwater shows a list price, so a buyer who needs to compare numbers before a call should start with those two instead.
Crayon or Meltwater: questions
3 answersDoes Meltwater let you cancel after a month?
The pricing page says most partnerships are annual, with a minimum contract length of 12 months. It also notes that onboarding or implementation fees may apply to enterprise setups. So a monthly exit is not what the page we read describes.
Can you try Crayon without talking to anyone?
The pages we read show Request an Estimate and Get a Demo, and mention neither a free plan nor a free trial. That points to a sales conversation first. We did not see a self-serve sign-up.
Which of the two names its legal entity in Europe?
Meltwater's privacy policy names Meltwater the Netherlands B.V as main establishment for EU data protection purposes. Its investor page also gives San Francisco as its headquarters. On Crayon's side, neither a country nor an address turned up.
