Toggl Track alternatives: 11 time tracking tools compared
People look for a Toggl Track alternative when the timer they liked has turned into a platform with plan tiers, add-ons and a new name. Toggl Track is now simply called Toggl, and approvals, SSO and cost reports sit on its higher tier. They move to a cheaper hosted tracker, to software they run themselves, or to a tool built for attendance.
Short answer: The first three alternatives to Toggl Track in our time tracking ranking are Clockify, Kimai and Clockodo. Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order. Choose Clockify if you want approvals and invoicing at roughly a third of Toggl Premium's seat price. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Time Tracking Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Toggl Track.
Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say
about a product. How that works.

Built for: Agencies and consultancies billing client hours from a timer

Why buyers look past Toggl Track
01
Track has been folded into a wider product
Toggl's About page says Toggl Track is now just Toggl, and that the planning and capacity features of Toggl Plan live inside it. The pricing page adds two paid extras: Time Off Pro at $2 and Capacity Management at $5 (annual) or $6 (monthly), per user per month. Someone who only wanted a timer now reads a plan matrix.
02
Approvals and SSO need the top self-serve tier
Billable rates start on Starter ($9 per user per month billed annually, $12 monthly). Timesheet approvals, labour cost and profitability reports, fixed-fee projects, Jira and Asana integrations and single sign-on are listed on Premium, at $16 annually or $24 monthly. A team that needs approvals alone pays the full Premium seat price.
03
Exit and free-tier limits
Toggl's support article says CSV export needs a paid plan and the Free plan exports PDF only. The Free plan is described as free for a limited number of users, and the page does not give the number. Admins can export workspace data as JSON, but download links expire after 72 hours.
Online time clock with GPS, photo punches and payroll exports
you are paying hourly shift workers and need punches tied to locations and payroll

What each one does differently

Clockify
United States · Free plan for up to 5 users; paid per user per month, published
Sells the same timer-and-timesheet idea but prices lower: Standard is $5.49 per seat per month billed annually and already has time off, invoicing and timesheet approval. Pro adds activity monitoring and GPS. The Free plan is for a handful of users. The company is CAKE.com Inc. in Palo Alto, and it has no self-hosted edition.
Switch from Toggl Track if you want approvals and invoicing at roughly a third of Toggl Premium's seat price.
Austria · Free self-hosted; hosted plan per user per month, published
Open source under AGPL-3.0 and installable on your own server without a user limit, or rented as Kimai Cloud with two plans, a 30-day trial and hosting in Germany. Its legal notice names an individual in Vienna, Austria as the operator. Expect to maintain updates yourself if you self-host.
Switch from Toggl Track if you want to own the database and are willing to administer a PHP application.
Splits work-time and project-time products: Basic starts at 4 euro per user per month, Pro at 10 euro monthly or 9.50 annually with project controlling and invoice line transfer. Free covers one user only. A German GmbH based in Unna, with a 14-day trial of everything and no card needed.
Switch from Toggl Track if you need working-time and holiday records alongside project hours, under German employment practice.
Poland · Free tier; paid per user per month, published
A Polish joint-stock company with a free plan that has unlimited users, then Starter at $3.99, Premium at $6.99 and Ultimate at $9.99 per user per month billed annually. Screenshots, billing rates and timesheet approvals only arrive on Ultimate. Self-hosted or private cloud deployment is an Enterprise item.
Switch from Toggl Track if you want attendance and invoicing in the cheapest paid tier and a route to private deployment later.
Slovenia · Free tier; paid per user per month, published
Free for up to 5 active users, then Basic at $4 and Pro at $8 per user per month billed annually. Pro adds the approval workflow with an audit log and budget calculation, and carries a 14-day trial without a card. The About page lists a Ljubljana head office. It is a plain tracker, not a planning tool.
Switch from Toggl Track if your team is five people or fewer and you want approvals without Toggl's add-ons.
United Kingdom · Free core product; paid per user per month, published
Its site says it is free for unlimited users, with clock-ins by web, mobile and desktop, plus geofencing, GPS stamps, face recognition and kiosk mode named as features. The fetched pages show no paid tiers or prices. Jibble Ltd.'s terms are governed by UK law. Aimed at attendance more than project billing.
Switch from Toggl Track if the real job is clocking staff in and out across many people at no seat cost.
Tracks automatically through its Memory app, so entries are suggested rather than started by hand. Starter is $9 per user per month billed yearly for up to 5 users and 20 projects; Premium is $16 for up to 50 users; Unlimited is $22. There is a 14-day trial only. Timely AS is based in Oslo.
Switch from Toggl Track if you forget to start timers and want drafts of your day built for you.
United States · Monthly plan by number of projects, published; unlimited users
Built around project budgets that update as time is entered, with a Basecamp integration it calls the first of its kind. Sold by Higher Pixels, Inc. with a 30-day trial and no card. We could not read its pricing page because the site blocked automated requests, so compare its cost yourself.
Switch from Toggl Track if you run fixed-budget client projects, perhaps from Basecamp, and want budget burn visible per entry.
United States · Per seat per month, published, with a minimum seat count
Seat-based with every seat paid, even people who only view reports, and a free Project Viewer role. Screenshots, activity levels, GPS tracking, payroll and invoicing are advertised, and annual billing is described as two months free. The operator is Netsoft Holdings, LLC. It leans toward monitoring remote staff.
Switch from Toggl Track if you pay remote contractors by tracked time and want proof of work in screenshots.
United States · Per user per month by plan, published
Starts at $12 per user per month for Starter, with Team adding approvals and cost rates and Premier adding project budgeting and resource management. Expenses cost $4 extra per user. Only the entry price is shown; other tiers go through sales. Based in San Francisco.
Switch from Toggl Track if a professional-services firm needs budgets and cost rates and is content to talk to sales.
United States · Per user per month plus a base fee, published
A time clock for hourly staff rather than a project timer: every plan has a $19 monthly base fee plus $4.99, $6.99 or $12.99 per user billed annually, with administrators free. Geofencing arrives on Pro and real-time GPS is a $2 add-on on the lower two. A 14-day trial, based in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Switch from Toggl Track if you are paying hourly shift workers and need punches tied to locations and payroll.
Toggl stays the right pick for a team that mostly wants a quick timer across desktop, browser and mobile and is happy to sit on the Starter tier for billable rates. It publishes list prices for three tiers, offers a 30-day trial, states SOC 2 Type II and ISO certification on its pricing page, and runs from an Estonian company with a US sister entity. If you already use its capacity or time-off add-ons, a swap means rebuilding that data elsewhere.

What moving off Toggl Track involves
01
Export before you cancel
Detailed Report data downloads as CSV, but only on a paid plan; the Free plan gives PDF. Regular users export their own entries, admins export everything. Workspace data comes out as JSON, only one export can compile at a time, and links last 72 hours. Take the CSV while you still hold a paid seat.
02
Match the target's import columns
Clockify's migration guide asks for Email, Project, Client, Description, Start Date, Start Time and Duration, and the emails must match users already invited. Kimai's Toggl importer is a plugin and demands fourteen columns, including Billable and Tags, and the date format chosen in Toggl must match.
03
Check what you actually used
Because Toggl now bundles time off and capacity planning, list which of those your team switched on. A pure tracker such as My Hours or Tick will not carry them over, so a time-off or planning gap may appear after the switch.
