Hubstaff vs Toggl Track

Hubstaff sells time tracking with optional monitoring: screenshots, GPS and payroll sit in its higher tiers, and every paid seat has a two-seat minimum. Toggl Track sells plain time recording and states it takes no screenshots. Hubstaff is cheaper per seat on its published list; Toggl gives a larger free plan and puts single sign-on in a mid tier.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

Where they differ

  1. 01

    The free plan

Toggl's FAQ limits free teams to 3 users, and its Free plan has no billable rates and only task estimates. Hubstaff's own pricing review describes its free plan as limited to a single user and as a trial experience. A two-person studio can stay on Toggl for nothing; the same studio pays for Hubstaff after its 14-day trial.

  2. 02

    Paid price per seat

Hubstaff lists Starter at 4.99 dollars per seat per month on annual billing (7 monthly), Grow at 7.50 (9) and Team at 10 (12). Toggl lists Starter at 9 and Premium at 16, with 12 and 24 shown beside them; the page text did not label which is annual. On the closest tiers Hubstaff is cheaper by a wide margin.

  3. 03

    Monitoring and field tracking

Hubstaff's site lists time tracking with screenshots, idle time, app and URL usage and GPS job sites, and its review ties unlimited screenshots to the Team tier. Toggl's product page says it never monitors screens, keystrokes or webcams. Which is a feature depends on the buyer: a client who needs proof of work wants Hubstaff, a staff council may forbid it.

    Edge: Hubstaff

  4. 04

    Single sign-on and security tier

Toggl lists SSO on Premium, at 16 dollars per user on its annual-looking price. Hubstaff's review places SSO, SCIM, HIPAA and SOC 2 Type II on Enterprise at 25 dollars per seat, billed annually only. A company that needs SSO but not monitoring reaches it sooner and cheaper on Toggl.

    Edge: Toggl Track

  5. 05

    Trial and company base

Toggl offers a 30-day trial on paid plans; Hubstaff offers 14 days without a card. Hubstaff's terms name Netsoft Holdings, LLC in Indiana, United States. Toggl's terms name Toggl OU in Tallinn, Estonia, or Toggl Inc in Delaware depending on where the user is domiciled. Each has a trial of a different length and a different contracting entity.
