Toggl Track vs Clockify

Both are timesheet products with a free plan, but they are priced from opposite ends. Toggl Track is built around the timer people actually keep using and charges more per seat for it. Clockify is the cheaper per-user route, with a free plan for five users, and sits under a United States parent, where Toggl Track is Estonian.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

Where they differ

Toggl Track 1 · Clockify 3 · open 1
  1. 01

    Price per seat

Toggl Track lists Starter at $9 and Premium at $16 per user per month. Clockify lists Basic at $3.99, Standard at $5.49 and Pro at $7.99 per user per month, billed annually. For a team of 40 the gap is large, and Clockify is plainly cheaper at every tier we read.

    Edge: Clockify

  2. 02

    Free plan

Clockify's free plan covers up to 5 users, and Toggl Track's page says up to 3 team members. For a three-person agency either works. For a team of five, only Clockify stays free.

    Edge: Clockify

  3. 03

Where billable rates and approvals begin

Toggl Track puts billable rates on Starter and timesheet approvals, profitability reports and SSO on Premium. Clockify puts approvals and invoicing on Standard, which is cheaper than Toggl's Premium. Our data lists approvals and invoicing as paid features at Clockify. Clockify gets finance features to a buyer at a lower tier.

    Edge: Clockify

  4. 04

    Timer friction and attendance

Our category ranking puts Toggl Track first for how little friction there is between deciding to track and tracking, with timers from a keyboard shortcut, browser button or phone. It does not do attendance or overtime rules. Clockify offers kiosk mode from Basic, which gets closer to a shared clock. Pick by whether habit or attendance is the problem.

    Depends on the buyer

  5. 05

    Where the vendor is based

Toggl Track is listed under Estonia. Clockify is built in Serbia under CAKE.com Inc., a United States parent, so our data treats its jurisdiction as American. That does not matter to every buyer, but it decides it for some.

    Edge: Toggl Track

03

When neither fits

If the need is attendance, break rules or an open-source option you host yourself, neither fits well. TimeCamp is second in our time tracking ranking, and Kimai is the self-hostable choice.
