Tipalti alternatives: 10 accounts payable automation tools compared

Teams look beyond Tipalti when they pay a handful of suppliers rather than hundreds of payees abroad, or when what they need is approvals on top of a ledger they already run. Tipalti is priced as a platform fee plus transaction charges and is quoted in the end. The ten options below range from approval-only add-ons to full suites and payment-first tools.

Short answer: ApprovalMax, Libeo and Yooz head the list of Tipalti alternatives drawn from our accounts payable automation ranking. Smaller vendors fill the top three places where the category offers them, and the household names start at place 4. ApprovalMax is the one to try if you only need multi-step approvals on a ledger you keep. The 10 entries that follow are all ranked in Best Accounts Payable Automation Software in 2026; each one explains what sets it apart from Tipalti.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Tipalti

  • Pricing: Published entry prices (AP from $99 a month, mass payments from $249) plus per-transaction charges; final price quoted

Why buyers look past Tipalti

  1. 01

A fee runs before the first invoice

Tipalti's pricing page starts Accounts Payable at $99 a month and Mass Payments at $249 a month, then adds charges per invoice and per payment and optional modules for Procurement, Expenses and Treasury. The page says the final cost depends on legal entities, modules, payment methods and currencies, and it shows neither a free tier nor a trial. A small team cannot work out a yearly total without asking sales.

  2. 02

The product is shaped by payouts to many payees

On its home page Tipalti talks about paying in 200+ countries and territories, 120 currencies and 50+ payment methods, and lists music royalties, affiliates, adtech and gaming among its sectors. A finance team that pays forty suppliers from one country, mostly by bank transfer, is buying reach it will not use, and may find the surrounding product heavier than a plain approval flow.

  3. 03

    Complex set-ups can cost extra

The pricing page includes standard implementations, but says more complex environments may need additional professional services and gives no figure. Its integrations page names NetSuite, Sage, Dynamics, QuickBooks, Xero, SAP and others, with no implementation time stated. Companies with several entities or an uncommon ERP should ask for the services scope in writing before signing.

What each one does differently

ApprovalMax

United Kingdom · Published

ApprovalMax is a UK-based approval layer that sits on Xero, QuickBooks Online or NetSuite and does nothing else. Its pricing is listed per accounting platform rather than per approver. Payment there is a separate add-on, and the page we read announces it only for US QuickBooks Online customers.

Switch from Tipalti if you only need multi-step approvals on a ledger you keep.

Libeo

France · On request

Libeo is a French service that carries a supplier invoice from approval to payment, adds physical and virtual cards, and says it works with 150+ accounting tools and more than 5,000 banks. Its home page speaks only of France, and pricing is by quote, so a cross-border payout programme is outside what we could confirm.

Switch from Tipalti if your suppliers and your accountant are mostly in France.

Libeo holds rank 4 among 21 entries in our accounts payable automation guide →

Yooz

France · On request

Yooz, from France, centres on capture and approval for companies that process high document counts with few finance staff. Its site claims 250+ integrations and names QuickBooks, Acumatica, Dynamics 365 and Sage. Payments are described only as a general automation topic, and the page published no price.

Switch from Tipalti if your problem is invoice volume and coding, not paying abroad.

Rossum

Czechia · Published

Rossum, a Czech company, sells document reading you correct and train yourself, with API access. Its Starter plan is listed from $18,000 a year and pricing follows pages or documents processed. It is not a payment product, so you would keep a bank or payment service next to it for the money leaving.

Switch from Tipalti if you want extraction and an API and handle payment elsewhere.

Medius

Not stated by the vendor · On request

Medius advertises a 97% auto-match rate on invoice lines, a go-live of 8 to 12 weeks on average and its own Medius Payments with batch payments. That is a project with a defined timetable, quoted per organisation, aimed at companies that raise purchase orders and want matching to do the checking.

Switch from Tipalti if purchase orders and automatic matching drive your workload.

Stampli

United States · On request

Stampli keeps questions and decisions on the invoice itself, handled by an assistant called Billy, and lists fourteen ERPs including SAP, NetSuite, Dynamics and Sage Intacct. Direct Pay carries approval context into payment. The page we read does not mention global payments, and pricing is by quote.

Switch from Tipalti if slow approvals in email are what hurts, and your ERP is on its list.

MineralTree

United States · On request

MineralTree sends payment by virtual card, ACH or cheque from inside Sage Intacct and other ledgers, and describes virtual card payments as free and earning rebates. It names NetSuite, Dynamics GP, Oracle and JD Edwards among connections. Its rails are American, so it fits a US payer.

Switch from Tipalti if you are a US company that wants card rebates on supplier payments.

Melio

United States · Published

Melio publishes a ladder from Go at $0 with 5 free ACH payments a month up to Unlimited at $80 a month, with Platinum quoted. After the allowance an ACH costs $0.50, and international USD by ACH carries a $20 fee. The pages we read speak of US business payments.

Switch from Tipalti if you are a small US business and want fees you can read in advance.

BILL

United States · Published

BILL lists AP and AR plans at $49, $65 and $89 per user a month, with Enterprise quoted, and a payment fee table in which an international FX wire or local transfer is free while a USD wire is $19.99. Automatic 2- and 3-way matching appears on the Enterprise plan only.

Switch from Tipalti if you want per-user pricing and a published fee table for US payments.

Basware

Finland · On request

Basware, from Finland, reports coverage in 190+ countries and runs an e-invoicing network with compliance tools and procure-to-pay. It addresses invoice receipt and tax rules more than outbound payouts, and pricing is quoted. Expect a project sized for a group, not a quick start for one company.

Switch from Tipalti if e-invoicing rules across many countries decide your choice.

Which alternative for which situation

  1. 01

You pay a few dozen suppliers and only need approvals on top of Xero or QuickBooks

ApprovalMax: ApprovalMax adds multi-step approvals to Xero, QuickBooks Online or NetSuite, with pricing listed per platform rather than per approver. Payment is a separate add-on, announced for US QuickBooks users.

  2. 02

You are a French finance team that pays most suppliers by transfer

Libeo: Libeo takes an invoice through approval to payment and lists 150+ accounting tools and 5,000+ banks on its home page. Prices are by quote.

  3. 03

You are a US business that wants to see every fee before you commit

Melio: Melio starts at Go for $0 with 5 free ACH payments a month, then $0.50 each, and paid plans run to $80 a month. A USD payment abroad by ACH is $20.

  4. 04

You buy against purchase orders and want matching to clear the invoices

Medius: Medius reports a 97% auto-match rate on invoice lines and an average go-live of 8 to 12 weeks, so plan for a project with a date.

  5. 05

You file e-invoices in many countries and need a network behind it

Basware: Basware reports coverage in 190+ countries and offers an e-invoicing network with compliance tools. It is quoted per organisation.

04

When Tipalti is still the right choice

Tipalti remains the sensible choice when you pay many suppliers, contractors or creators in many countries and want one system for payment, supplier onboarding and tax paperwork. Its home page describes automated W-9 data extraction, payment fraud detection and multi-jurisdictional tax compliance, and the integration list covers NetSuite, Sage, Dynamics, SAP and Xero. Unlimited users and no per-approver fee keep the cost steady as the team grows. If the payout volume is real, the platform fee is the smaller part of the sum.

05

What moving off Tipalti involves

  1. 01

    Suppliers must be onboarded again

Payees registered through Tipalti's portal hold their bank details and tax forms there. Plan to collect these again in the new system and decide who sends the request and when, so a payment run does not stall on a supplier who has not responded.

  2. 02

ERP sync and open items need a handover date

Tipalti syncs with your ledger, so open bills and part-paid invoices must be settled or recreated in the successor on a cut-off date. Run one payment cycle in parallel on a small supplier group before moving everyone.
