BILL vs Tipalti
BILL and Tipalti both automate supplier payments, but they charge for different things. BILL sells seats: Essentials, Team and Corporate are priced per user per month, with approvers counted in the bill. Tipalti sells a platform with unlimited users, starting at $99 a month for accounts payable and $249 for mass payments, then adds transaction fees on top. Both list a United States entity, so neither is a European option, and the choice comes down to how many people approve versus how many suppliers you pay.
Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.
you have a small finance team that approves invoices next to QuickBooks or Xero and want the per-user price printed on the page. You also want to read the ACH, check and wire fees before you sign anything.
you pay many suppliers or payees and want unlimited users on the platform instead of a seat count. You accept a monthly platform fee plus per-transaction charges, and a final price that comes from a quote.

Where they differ
BILL 3 · Tipalti 2 · open 1- 01
Seats versus unlimited users
BILL prices its AP and AR plans per user per month, billed monthly: Essentials at $49, Team at $65 and Corporate at $89, with the currency shown only as a dollar sign. Tipalti lists unlimited users on both Accounts Payable and Mass Payments. A company with eight approvers pays for eight seats at BILL, while Tipalti's entry price does not move with headcount. That favours Tipalti when many people touch invoices.

What you pay before the first invoice
Tipalti Accounts Payable starts at $99 a month and Mass Payments at $249 a month, plus transaction fees per invoice and payment and fees for add-on modules. BILL shows a per-user fee and, separately, payment fees such as $0.59 per ACH payment and $1.99 per mailed check. Neither page gives a single all-in monthly figure, so a buyer must model volume. BILL is the easier of the two to calculate from the page.

Paying across borders
BILL says it supports international payments to vendors outside the U.S. in 130+ countries and lists $19.99 for an international USD wire. The pages are written for US businesses, so the buyer's own entity must be checked. Tipalti's own description centres on supplier onboarding, tax form collection, sanctions screening and payments in many currencies. For payouts to many countries, the fact pack points to Tipalti as the purpose-built option.
Edge: Tipalti

Where the larger ERP sync sits
BILL's Team plan includes automatic two-way sync with QuickBooks Online and Xero plus AI multi-line bill coding. Syncing with NetSuite, Sage Intacct and Microsoft Dynamics, along with multi-entity accounting and dual control, needs the Enterprise plan, which has custom pricing. The Tipalti pages we read do not name accounting integrations. For a QuickBooks or Xero shop, BILL's published tiers are clearer.
Edge: BILL

Approvals and procurement depth
BILL Corporate adds custom approval policies and procurement, meaning purchase requests, purchase orders and two-way matching, with discounts for approver-only users. Tipalti's approval workflow is described as simpler than suites such as Medius or Stampli, and its Expenses, Procurement and Treasury modules are add-ons priced by custom quote. If invoice approval routing is the main job, BILL puts more of it into published tiers.
Edge: BILL

Trial, free tier and entity
BILL's AP and AR plan has a free trial in most cases, with no length or terms stated, and its pricing page names BILL Operations, LLC, Bill.com LLC and Divvy Pay LLC without a headquarters. Tipalti says it has no free tier, mentions no free trial, and lists Tipalti, Inc. in Foster City, California, United States. BILL is friendlier for a test run, while Tipalti is more explicit about where it sits.
Depends on the buyer
When neither fits
If you want deep approval routing and coding with no payout engine attached, look at Stampli or Medius, which the fact pack names as stronger on the approval side. If you need a Europe-based supplier of payables software, neither BILL nor Tipalti fits, since both list a United States base.
