Typeform alternatives: 12 form builders compared

People look for Typeform alternatives when the one-question-at-a-time format is no longer worth a plan that meters responses. The cap on responses a month, the price steps between tiers and the features held back on the entry plan are what start the search. They move to builders with free tiers that carry logic and integrations, to flat-priced tools, or to heavier form platforms.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

Typeform

#9 of 15 in our form builder ranking

  • Pricing: Free plan to 100 responses a month; monthly tiers by responses and users, published
  • Established in: Spain
  • Built for: Marketing teams for whom completion rate justifies a premium price
  • Not for: High-volume internal data collection on a small budget

Why buyers look past Typeform

  1. 01

Plans are metered by responses and seats

Typeform's published plans rise with the number of responses a month: 100 on Basic, 1,000 on Plus and 10,000 on Business, with one, three and five users. Annual billing is listed at $28, $56 and $91 a month. A form that goes well outgrows its tier by success, not by features, and the next step costs roughly double.

  2. 02

The cheapest plan is deliberately small

Typeform's page describes the free plan as basic features with a limited number of responses a month. Conditional logic and webhooks with integrations are listed from Basic upwards, and removing branding and a custom subdomain from Plus. Teams that need logic and a clean embed across several forms usually end up on the second paid tier.

  3. 03

A different product from a plain form

Typeform's format is built around presentation, one question per screen, and the company now sells automation add-ons and a Growth Flow plan for sales teams on top. Someone who only needs to collect entries into a spreadsheet pays for presentation they may not use, which is why many compare it against tools that treat the form as a plain input.

What each one does differently

Tally

Belgium · Free plan within fair-use limits; flat monthly plans, published

Tally lists unlimited forms and submissions on its free plan, within fair-use guidelines, including conditional logic, calculations, file uploads, payments and integrations such as Google Sheets and Notion. Branding removal and custom domains need Pro at EUR 20 a month. It is based in Belgium and stores form data in Europe.

Switch from Typeform if response caps and paid logic are what you are leaving, and a plain form is enough.

Fillout

United States · Free plan to 1,000 responses a month; flat monthly tiers, published

Fillout's free plan allows 1,000 responses a month with multi-page forms, conditional logic, payments, PDF generation and file uploads. Paid plans are flat fees with unlimited seats, from $15 a month. Branding removal and custom domains start at Pro, $40 a month. It markets itself as an all-in-one form tool rather than a conversational one.

Switch from Typeform if you want a free tier ten times larger and a team that shares one flat price.

Fillout, #2 of 15 in our form builder ranking →

Jotform

United States · Free plan to 5 forms; monthly tiers by forms and submissions, published

Jotform meters by active forms and monthly submissions rather than responses alone: the free plan has 5 forms and 100 submissions a month, and Bronze at $39 monthly raises that to 25 forms and 1,000 submissions. It is headquartered in San Francisco and carries the widest range of field types and templates.

Switch from Typeform if you run many different forms, not a few polished ones, and want paid headroom.

Jotform, #7 of 15 in our form builder ranking →

Paperform

Australia · Free plan to 30 submissions a month; flat monthly tiers, published

Paperform builds forms as documents, closer to a page than to Typeform's single-question flow. The free plan stops at 30 submissions a month, but Pro at $49 a month billed annually has unlimited submissions, 25 signed documents and automation credits. A custom domain costs $20 a month extra on Pro.

Switch from Typeform if the form is a page with payments or signatures and the submission cap is the problem.

OpnForm

France · Free plan; flat monthly tiers, published; self-hosted licence per instance

OpnForm is open source under AGPLv3 and sells hosted plans from a free tier with unlimited forms and submissions, form logic and API access. Pro is $25 a month. Self-hosting the Community Edition is free for up to two users with branding; removing it needs a $1,999 a year licence per instance.

Switch from Typeform if you want to run the forms on your own server and avoid response limits.

Cognito Forms

United States · Free plan for one user; monthly tiers by users and entries, published

Cognito Forms keeps unlimited forms on every plan and meters by entries and users: the free plan has 100 entries a month for one user, Pro 2,000 entries for two users at $24 monthly. Workflow approvals and data lookups sit on Team. It aims at business processes more than at presentation.

Switch from Typeform if forms feed approvals or payments and you want a clear entry-based ladder.

forms.app

Estonia · Free plan to 5 forms; monthly tiers by form count and storage, published

forms.app, run by an Estonian company in Tallinn, states that all plans include unlimited responses, team members and questions, and meters by form count and storage instead: 5 forms on the free plan, 25 on Basic at $19 a month billed annually. Drop-off analysis and partial responses are on higher tiers.

Switch from Typeform if the response cap hurts but you only keep a handful of active forms.

HeyForm

United States · Monthly tiers by responses and team size, published; 7-day trial

HeyForm says all plans include unlimited forms and questions. It meters by responses at much higher thresholds: 5,000 on Basic at $15 a month, 20,000 on Premium. Custom CSS and branding removal start at Premium, and its code is published under AGPLv3 on GitHub.

Switch from Typeform if you want far higher response thresholds at a lower monthly price.

HeyForm, #8 of 15 in our form builder ranking →

Google Forms

United States · Included in Google Workspace, per user per month, published; 14-day trial

Google Forms is part of Google Workspace rather than a separate subscription, with logic branching, quizzes and charts, and responses that export to Google Sheets. It has no per-response plan to outgrow, but it offers little control over presentation and does not match Typeform's design range.

Switch from Typeform if you already pay for Workspace and the forms are internal or simple.

Google Forms, #15 of 15 in our form builder ranking →

Formstack

United States · Monthly per product, published; 14-day trial

Formstack is a business platform with forms, documents and eSignature products. Its Forms plan starts at $83 a month billed annually ($99 monthly) with one builder user, 25 forms and 1,000 submissions per form, plus a listed 300+ integrations and a Salesforce edition. It costs more than Typeform's entry plans.

Switch from Typeform if forms feed documents, signatures or Salesforce and compliance counts more than design.

Wufoo

United States · Free plan to 5 forms; annual tiers by entries and users, published

Wufoo carries SurveyMonkey branding and prices by entries: free is 5 forms and 100 entries, Starter $16.25 a month billed yearly for 1,000 entries, with overage at $0.05 per entry on paid accounts. Free accounts deactivate when the limit is reached. It is an older entry-based form tool.

Switch from Typeform if you want a plain form with a predictable per-entry charge beyond the limit.

123FormBuilder

Romania · Free plan to 5 forms; monthly tiers by forms and submissions, published

123FormBuilder's free plan was cut to one form with 10 fields, no rules, no payments and no upload storage, though submissions are unlimited, and paid Individual plans allow five forms. It suits a few simple forms embedded on one site.

Switch from Typeform if you need a handful of basic forms on a site and no logic on the free tier.

04

When Typeform is still the right choice

Typeform stays the right choice when the form is part of the brand and completion rate matters. Respondents see one question at a time, and the design range, logic and video questions are what the company charges for. If your response volume fits the tier, the cost per response is small next to what a high-completing form produces, and moving to a plain builder would trade that presentation away.

05

What moving off Typeform involves

  1. 01

Logic and hidden fields do not export

Typeform's logic jumps, calculations and hidden fields are part of its own model. Alternatives such as Tally, Fillout and OpnForm offer conditional logic and calculations, but each form has to be rebuilt by hand. List the forms that use branching and recreate those first, then retire the simple ones.

  2. 02

Embeds, webhooks and links need replacing

Every typeform URL, embed and webhook points at Typeform. Replace embeds on your site, update webhook endpoints and any Zapier or spreadsheet connections, and keep the old forms live while links in emails and documents expire. Check the new tool's integration list for the apps you actually send answers to.

  3. 03

    Past responses stay behind

Download existing responses before you cancel, since they will not appear in the new tool by themselves. If you report across periods, decide whether to keep a combined spreadsheet. Check that the new tool's plan covers your monthly volume, because limits on responses, entries or submissions differ in what they count.

Questions about replacing Typeform

6 answers
What is the best free alternative to Typeform?

Tally and Fillout have the larger free tiers: Tally lists unlimited forms and submissions within fair-use guidelines, and Fillout allows 1,000 responses a month. OpnForm offers unlimited forms and submissions on its free hosted plan. Jotform and forms.app limit the number of forms instead.

Which Typeform alternative looks most like it?

We have not verified which tool reproduces the one-question-at-a-time layout. Paperform builds forms as documents and Jotform offers many field types and templates. Compare your own most-used form in the free tier of each before you commit to a plan.

Why does Typeform cost more than other form builders?

Its plans are metered by responses and by users, and the cheapest paid plans hold back features. Typeform lists Plus at $56 a month billed annually for 1,000 responses.

Fillout's Pro at $40 a month covers 5,000 responses, and Tally's Pro is EUR 20 a month, so the gap is visible at moderate volume.

Can I host a Typeform alternative myself?

OpnForm publishes its code under AGPLv3 and its Community Edition is free to self-host for up to two users with branding. HeyForm also publishes its code under AGPLv3. Tally, Fillout, Jotform and Paperform are hosted services only as far as their published pricing pages show.

Where is Typeform based, and does it matter?

Typeform's privacy policy names TYPEFORM, S.L. in Barcelona, Spain as the data controller. For a European organisation that is a point in its favour, but it should not decide the choice.

Tally, based in Belgium, and forms.app, based in Estonia, are also European. Compare features and price first.

Is Google Forms enough instead of Typeform?

For internal surveys and simple collection it often is. Google Forms offers logic branching, quizzes and charts and exports to Google Sheets. It gives you little of Typeform's design control, so public-facing lead forms that depend on presentation are where teams still pay for Typeform.
