People look for a Formstack alternative when the price of one builder seat feels high, when they only need forms without the document and signature tools, or when the move to Intellistack ownership raises questions. They go to flat-priced form builders, open source projects they can host, or specialists in calculations and Salesforce.
Short answer: Looking for a replacement for Formstack? OpnForm, Tally and forms.app come first in our form builder ranking. Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order. Start with OpnForm if you want to run the form software and keep submissions on your own server. Each of the 11 alternatives sits in Best Online Form Builders in 2026 and is described against Formstack.
Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Why buyers look past Formstack
01
The price is set per builder user and per product
On the pricing page we read, Forms costs 83 US dollars a month billed annually or 99 monthly and includes one builder user, 25 forms, 1,000 submissions per form and 2 GB of storage. Suite, with Documents and Sign, is 250 a month annually or 299 monthly for three builders. A second person who builds forms pushes a team towards the higher plan or an enterprise quote.
02
Approvals and documents sit behind the Suite
The page lists approval routing, automatic document generation and eSignatures from the Suite upwards, and none of them on Forms. HIPAA and compliance support is shown as a paid add-on on both plans. A team that only needs approvals therefore buys signing and document tools with it, whether or not it uses them.
03
Two owners and several names to follow
Formstack is now a product name under Intellistack, LLC, and the old security address redirects to an Intellistack page. That page we read holds a vulnerability disclosure policy and a link to a trust centre, and states no certifications or data regions in the text we saw. Buyers with data residency questions need those answers in writing.

OpnForm
France · Published
OpnForm publishes its core under AGPLv3, so the software and every submission can sit on a server you run. The hosted free plan has unlimited forms and submissions in a single workspace with OpnForm branding. The community edition allows two users, and captcha, custom domains and analytics begin on the hosted Pro tier. The company is French.
Switch from Formstack if you want to run the form software and keep submissions on your own server.
Tally BV of Ghent describes itself as a small, bootstrapped team. Forms are typed like a text document, and the free plan has no submission counter beyond a fair-use policy that bites near 50,000 a month. Two flat paid plans add branding removal, custom domains and unlimited teammates, so the price list is short.
Switch from Formstack if you want a small Belgian vendor and a free plan that does not count submissions.
Forms App OĆ of Tallinn lets responses and team members run unlimited on every plan and meters forms and file storage instead. Five forms and 10 MB cost nothing, Basic allows 25 forms, and Pro removes the form limit. That 10 MB allowance rules out uploads on the entry plan. Templates number more than 5,000.
Switch from Formstack if you collect many responses and would rather be metered on forms than on submissions.
HeyForm is an AGPL-3.0 project with a Dockerfile for self-hosting, and its hosted service comes from EarlyBird, Inc., which calls itself bootstrapped with no investors. Hosted tiers start at 5,000 responses a month. The hosted pricing page showed a 7-day trial rather than a permanent plan, and payment commission is waived only on Business.
Switch from Formstack if you want conversational forms with code you may deploy yourself.
123FormBuilder was built in Timisoara and bought by Kiteworks in September 2024, which is folding the technology into its own platform. Paid tiers start at 5,000 monthly submissions on Gold. The plan table also caps fields per form, at ten on the no-cost tier and 250 on Gold, and extra users are bought as licences.
Switch from Formstack if you want a Romanian-built tool with generous submission volumes and accept the new owner.
Paperform is run from Sydney, and each plan bundles Paperform, Papersign for signatures and Stepper for automation, with unlimited users. Payments, bookings and pricing calculations live inside the form. The free plan stops at 30 submissions a month, Pro charges extra for a custom domain, and single sign-on sits on a Business plan.
Switch from Formstack if you need signatures and automation alongside forms but do not want per-seat pricing.
Fillout gives every tier, the free one included, unlimited forms and seats, and meters only responses: 1,000 a month free, then 2,000, 5,000 and unlimited. Payments, PDF generation and workflows come in from the start. Branding comes off on the third tier, while a custom domain and analytics need the fourth.
Switch from Formstack if you have a large team and want to pay by response volume rather than by builder seat.
Cognito Forms puts calculations first: arithmetic, conditional logic and document generation are core, and the Team tier adds approvals, data lookups and a client portal. The free Individual tier takes payments but allows one user and 100 entries a month. Seats are rationed at two, five and twenty per tier; HIPAA and single sign-on wait for the top one.
Switch from Formstack if your forms are mostly calculations that then route to an approval step.
FormAssembly is run by its founder from Indiana and sells to regulated teams that want data checked before it reaches Salesforce. Plans have unlimited forms and responses and differ on users, workflows and compliance, including HIPAA with a signed agreement on Enterprise. The plans page shows no figures and a trial must be requested.
Switch from Formstack if you work in Salesforce and need compliance terms in writing.
Jotform is headquartered in San Francisco and says it is bootstrapped and independently owned, with more than 40 million users and 150-plus integrations. Submissions download as CSV, Excel or PDF. Each tier caps forms, submissions, views, upload space and stored submissions separately; Starter allows 100 submissions a month and HIPAA begins on Gold.
Switch from Formstack if you want the widest range of templates and integrations and can read a five-counter plan table.
Typeform SL of Barcelona is remote-first with over 250 staff and sells forms around conversational logic. Unlimited forms, questions, logic and webhooks come in the free plan, capped at 100 responses a month for one user. Plus removes the badge with 1,000 responses and three users; Business includes 10,000 and five.
Switch from Formstack if presentation matters most and you accept paying more per response.

When Formstack is still the right choice
Formstack remains a sensible choice when forms feed a wider process. The Suite adds approval routing, generated documents and eSignatures to the form, and Salesforce Solutions offers Salesforce-native forms with Experience Cloud and Shield compatibility. Its integrations page speaks of more than 250 tools, with Salesforce, HubSpot, Stripe, PayPal and Google Sheets named. A 14-day trial of Forms needs no card. If your team already runs form, document and signature steps together and the budget is settled, moving would mean rebuilding that chain from several tools.
05
What moving off Formstack involves
01
Rebuilding the chain, not just the form
Forms are the easy part. List every connection to Salesforce, payment services or storage, plus any generated documents and signature steps, and decide which new tool takes each one. Several alternatives below do not generate documents.
02
Limits per form versus limits per month
Formstack counts submissions per form, while many alternatives count responses per month or forms in total. Work out your busiest form and your total volume before comparing tiers, or an apparently cheaper plan will hit a cap.
03
Data already collected
Export submissions from each form and check that uploaded files come with them. Keep the old account until the last approval in flight has finished, then close it.
