Healthie alternatives: 10 telehealth tools compared

Practices look beyond Healthie when they only want video visits and not a full practice platform, when plan size by active clients stops matching how they work, or when extras such as e-prescribing and claims add up. Some want a free starting point, some a phone and text layer, and some a record built for therapists.

Short answer: Our rule for order: vendors outside the big brands go first, and the largest names are not placed in the top three. For Healthie users, the top three picks from our telehealth software ranking are Doxy.me, VSee and Spruce. Pick Doxy.me if a solo clinician wants video visits that cost nothing to try. Below are 10 alternatives, each taken from the Best Telehealth Software in 2026 ranking, with its main difference from Healthie.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Healthie

#4 of 11 in our telehealth software ranking

  • Pricing: Published monthly or annual plans by active clients; 14-day trial of Plus
  • Established in: United States
  • Built for: Solo and small wellness practices that want client-count based pricing
  • Not for: Multi-specialty physician groups with complex orders and lab workflows

Why buyers look past Healthie

  1. 01

Video arrives inside a whole practice platform

Healthie describes itself as a cloud-based EHR and practice platform: charting, care plans, scheduling, billing, messaging and a patient portal sit beside telehealth. A clinician who already has a chart and a booking system pays for modules that overlap with what they own.

  2. 02

Price follows active clients and clinicians

Core costs 19 US dollars a month for 10 active clients, Essentials 49 for 250, Plus 129 for unlimited and Group from 149, with annual billing a little lower. Adding team members to Group costs 50 dollars a month each, so a growing practice sees the bill rise from two directions.

  3. 03

Group video and extras sit higher up

Core and Essentials offer individual video calls, while group telehealth and webinars start on Plus. DoseSpot e-prescribing is 40 dollars per clinician a month, AI charting, API access and custom integrations are add-ons, and card payments run through Stripe at 2.9 per cent plus 30 cents.

What each one does differently

Doxy.me

Not stated by the vendor · Published

Doxy.me works in the browser around a waiting room, check-in, session history and SOAP or DAP notes. A free version exists for providers just starting out, and Premium adds group calls of up to 25 people, billed per user per month with a free trial. The vendor names no parent company or hosting model, so location needs a direct question.

VSee

Not stated by the vendor · Published

VSee covers video, phone and chat visits, remote exams, remote patient monitoring, scheduling and revenue cycle management, with APIs and SDKs for builders. One provider can use the free plan for one-to-one video with a basic walk-in waiting room. Premium carries a one-time setup fee and EPCS is a contact-sales add-on. Enterprise has no listed price.

Switch from Healthie if you want a free single-provider plan with a route to remote monitoring.

Spruce

Not stated by the vendor · Published

Spruce joins the practice phone, two-way text, e-fax, video visits and secure messaging in one inbox. Two plans are published per user per month, mostly separated by phone lines per user. The 14-day trial leaves SMS out, which has a one-time fee. An executed Business Associate Agreement goes to every eligible organisation.

Switch from Healthie if calls, texts and faxes with patients are your real daily workload.

SimplePractice

United States · Published

SimplePractice is an electronic health record for therapists and speech-language pathologists with telehealth inside the record, a template library and insurance tools. Solo plans come in three tiers, groups pay less for each added practitioner, and a 30-day trial needs no card. Larger practices get custom pricing. Video is bundled, not sold alone.

Switch from Healthie if you practise therapy and want insurance billing next to the visit.

Cliniko

Australia · Published

Cliniko is an Australian practice management system with booking, treatment notes, finance, reporting and SMS. Every subscription includes every feature, with price set by practitioner count in published monthly bands and a 30-day trial. We could not confirm video among its features, so a separate visit tool would sit beside it. Accounts outside Australia, the UK and Canada use Australian servers.

Switch from Healthie if you run an allied health clinic and can pair it with a video tool.

Updox

Not stated by the vendor · On request

Updox bundles HIPAA-compliant eFax, secure text, direct secure messaging, a patient portal, reminders, payments and telehealth. Usage plans cap sessions: Standard allows 75 telehealth sessions and Enterprise 500, with extra volume in discounted bundles. Pricing is quoted and the pricing page lists limits rather than figures. It states that it integrates with most EMRs.

Switch from Healthie if a practice with an existing EMR wants fax, text and visits in one bundle.

Whereby

Norway · Published

Whereby is a Norwegian video-room product. Free, Pro and Business meeting plans are billed per host, and the Embedded product for developers is billed by usage. The free plan gives one room, four attendees and 30-minute meetings. Rooms, recording and branding are listed, so notes and intake come from elsewhere. The company moved in 2023 to focus on Embedded.

Switch from Healthie if your developers want to build video into your own client app.

Which alternative for which situation

  1. 01

You are a solo clinician who wants to try video at no cost

Doxy.me: A free version exists for new providers, with a waiting room, check-in and SOAP or DAP notes.

  2. 02

You are one provider who may add remote monitoring later

VSee: The free plan covers one provider with one-to-one video, and remote patient monitoring is on the product list.

  3. 03

Most patient contact happens by phone, text and fax

Spruce: It joins phone, two-way text, e-fax and video, with two published per-user plans and a 14-day trial.

  4. 04

You practise therapy and bill insurance

SimplePractice: Telehealth sits inside the record, with insurance tools and solo plans in three tiers.

  5. 05

Your developers want video inside your own app

Whereby: The Embedded product is billed by usage and built for developers.

04

When Healthie is still the right choice

Healthie stays the better choice for a nutrition or coaching practice that wants video, charting, scheduling, payments and a client portal under one login. Telehealth is in every plan, the 14-day trial of Plus needs no credit card, and the ready programmes and journaling suit recurring client relationships. If only extra clinician fees bother you, compare Group with solo plans first.

05

What moving off Healthie involves

  1. 01

Take the client records out with their context

Charts, care plans, notes and uploaded files all live in Healthie. Ask for a full export, check what format notes arrive in, and keep a read-only copy for retention rules in your jurisdiction. A video-only tool will not hold charts, so decide where the record lives before you move.

  2. 02

Rebuild bookings, billing and prescriptions separately

Appointment links, Stripe payment set-up, DoseSpot prescribing and ClaimMD claims connect to Healthie's own account and will not follow you. List each one, replace it, and keep the old plan until the last client has rebooked and the final claims are settled.

How much does Healthie cost?

The pricing page lists Core at 19 US dollars a month, Essentials 49, Plus 129 and Group from 149, with annual billing at 18, 45, 115 and 135. Plans cover 10, 250 and unlimited active clients. A 14-day trial of Plus needs no card.

Individual telehealth is in every plan. Group telehealth and webinars start on Plus, which is also the plan the trial uses.

Which Healthie alternative has a free plan?

Doxy.me has a free version for new providers, VSee a free plan for one provider, and Whereby a free plan with one room and four attendees for 30 minutes. Each is a visit tool rather than a chart.

What if I need phone and text with patients?

Spruce joins phone, two-way text, e-fax and video, with two published per-user plans and a 14-day trial. Updox bundles fax, text, portal and telehealth with session caps.

Which options are built for therapists?

SimplePractice is an electronic health record for therapists and speech-language pathologists with telehealth inside. Doxy.me offers SOAP and DAP notes alongside video.

Is HIPAA covered when I leave?

Vendors differ. Spruce gives every eligible organisation a Business Associate Agreement, and Zoom requires a paid plan and an executed one. Ask each vendor for a signed agreement before sending patient data.
