Gorgias alternatives: 11 help desk tools compared

The typical searcher runs an online store on Gorgias, sees the bill grow with ticket volume and with every conversation the AI agent handles, and wants a price that follows agents or outcomes instead. Some also run support outside a shop platform. They move to another ecommerce-aware desk, a per-seat general desk, or a self-hosted one.

Short answer: The first three alternatives to Gorgias in our help desk ranking are eDesk, Help Scout and Zendesk. Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order. Choose eDesk if you sell on marketplaces as well as your own store and want per-agent pricing. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Help Desk Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Gorgias.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

Gorgias

  • Not for: Any business without a storefront

Why buyers look past Gorgias

  1. 01

The bill follows tickets, so busy months cost more

Gorgias prices its helpdesk by tickets included: 50 on Starter, 300 on Basic, 2,000 on Pro and 5,000 on Advanced, with a custom plan above that. Overage is charged per ticket ($0.40 on Starter) or per block ($40 per 100 on Basic, $36 per 100 on Pro and Advanced), so a sale season changes the invoice even when the team stays the same size.

  2. 02

The AI agent is billed on top, per automated interaction

Every plan includes a number of automated interactions, and extra ones are charged at $1.00 on Starter, $0.90 on Basic and Pro, and $0.85 on Advanced. On monthly billing the Pro helpdesk alone is $360 a month, while Pro with the AI agent is $550, so the more the AI handles, the further the bill moves from the helpdesk price.

  3. 03

It is built around online shops

Gorgias describes its helpdesk as made for ecommerce and Shopify, and lists Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento and PrestaShop on its site. Starter allows only 3 user seats. A team that supports software customers, bookings or internal staff gets little from the order-data features and can pay less elsewhere.

Also built for online sellers, but it covers marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and Walmart as well as Shopify and Magento. Pricing is per agent per month (Essential, Growth, Professional) plus $0.99 per AI outcome, with plans limited by connected stores. It has a 14-day trial. Help Scout

United States · Free plan for up to 5 users; paid per user per month, published

A general shared inbox with a free version for 5 users, 1 inbox and 100 contacts a month, then Standard, Plus and Pro priced per user. Its Envoy AI add-on costs $0.75 per resolution. It lists a Shopify integration but is not built around order actions, and Pro starts at 10 users minimum.

Switch from Gorgias if you want a plain, per-user inbox and your agents outnumber your ticket peaks.

Help Scout, #2 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Zendesk

United States · Per agent per month, published; 14-day trial only

Per-agent plans (Support Team, Suite Team, Suite Professional, Enterprise) with a 14-day trial. AI agents come with a small included count of automated resolutions per agent (5 on Team plans) and further ones at EUR 1.50 each. It is a general service suite, so shop-specific order actions need apps or setup work.

Switch from Gorgias if you have a large team, several channels and want a general suite with sales-led Enterprise.

Zendesk, #9 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Freshdesk

United States · Per agent per month, published; 14-day trial only

Sold per agent per month (Growth, Pro, Enterprise), with a 14-day trial that opens the Enterprise plan. The Freddy AI agent includes 500 sessions, then costs $49 per 100 sessions, and a Copilot add-on is $29 per agent. A general desk, not a store-focused one, from a Delaware corporation.

Switch from Gorgias if you prefer paying per agent and want a price list with clear add-on rates.

Freshdesk, #5 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Intercom

United States · Per seat per month, published; AI agent charged per outcome

Seats plus Fin, its AI agent at $0.99 per outcome. Fin can also run on top of an existing helpdesk with no seats required, which lets you keep a desk you already own. Plans are per seat (Essential, Advanced, Expert), and the Expert plan includes 50 free Lite seats.

Switch from Gorgias if you mostly want an AI agent for resolutions and may keep your current desk.

Intercom, #10 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Crisp

France · Free plan for 2 seats; paid per workspace per month with seats included, published, low

A French company (CRISP IM SAS, Nantes) pricing per workspace, not per agent: Mini, Essentials and Plus, with seats included (4, 10, 20+). A free version covers 2 seats, and all plans have a 14-day trial. It connects to Shopify, Adobe, WooCommerce and PrestaShop and includes a chat widget.

Switch from Gorgias if you are a small shop wanting a flat workspace price with chat included.

Crisp, #7 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Front

United States · Per seat per month, published, $25 to $105 billed annually; 14-day trial only

A shared inbox for teams, priced per seat (Starter, Professional, Enterprise) and capped at 10 and 50 seats on the first two. It has a Shopify integration that shows order details in the inbox. Its Autopilot AI agent starts at $0.05 per conversation and Copilot is a $20 per seat add-on.

Switch from Gorgias if your support team works from email-style shared inboxes and wants order context beside them.

Front, #3 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Zammad

Germany · Free self-hosted; managed cloud published per agent

Open source (AGPL-3.0) and from Zammad GmbH in Berlin. Hosted plans in German data centres are priced per agent per month; a self-hosted option has annual support contracts instead. AI features cost EUR 0.03 per call. There is no store-specific tooling, so Shopify data needs your own integration work.

Switch from Gorgias if you want data in Germany or your own servers and can handle integration work.

Zammad, #1 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Zoho Desk

India · Free plan for 3 users; paid per user per month, published

Per-user plans (Express, Standard, Professional, Enterprise) with a free version for 3 users and a 15-day trial, from Zoho Corporation. The pricing page defaulted to Indian rupees when we loaded it. Standard adds live chat and messaging channels. It is a general desk and has no ecommerce focus.

Switch from Gorgias if you already use other Zoho apps and want a small per-user desk with a free version.

Zoho Desk, #11 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Deskpro

United States · Cloud per agent per month, published with agent minimums; on-premise quoted

Per-agent cloud plans (Team, Professional, Enterprise) with minimums of 5, 10 and 25 agents. Deskpro Private is a separate product that can run on your own servers, a VPC or a sovereign cloud. Global headquarters in Austin, Texas, with a London office. It is not an ecommerce desk.

Switch from Gorgias if you need to run the helpdesk in your own environment and have at least 5 agents.

Deskpro, #8 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

HubSpot Service Hub

United States · Free tier; paid per seat per month, published

A free version for up to 2 users, then per-seat Starter, Professional and Enterprise tiers. Professional and Enterprise add one-time onboarding fees ($1,500 and $3,500) and use HubSpot Credits for AI. It sits on the HubSpot CRM, so the gain is contact data, not shop order data.

Switch from Gorgias if your support team already shares a HubSpot CRM with marketing and sales.

When Gorgias is still the right choice

Gorgias is still the right choice for a Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Magento shop with steady ticket volume. Seats are not priced: Basic, Pro and Advanced include 500 user seats, so a large agent team pays no per-seat fee. It also lets agents cancel orders or apply discounts from inside a conversation. If your volume sits inside a plan's ticket allowance, the bill is predictable and a per-agent desk can cost more.

05

What moving off Gorgias involves

  1. 01

Export your tickets before you cancel

Gorgias lets the account owner, admins and leads export tickets from a view as a CSV on every helpdesk plan. One export holds up to 1 million tickets, takes about an hour per 100,000 tickets, and the download link stays active for 14 days. Run the export early, since the largest ones can take up to 10 hours.

  2. 02

Convert your bill to the new unit

Gorgias charges by tickets, others by agents, workspace or outcome. Take your last three monthly invoices, your ticket counts and your AI-handled interactions, then price the same months in the new model, including the AI rate ($0.99 per outcome at eDesk and Intercom, $0.75 per resolution at Help Scout, EUR 1.50 at Zendesk).

  3. 03

Test the shop integration with real orders

Order lookup, cancellations and discounts inside a ticket are the features people miss most after leaving a shop-focused desk. Run a two-week pilot on one inbox with your own store connected and check that each action your agents use daily exists in the new tool before you move the rest.

Questions about replacing Gorgias

6 answers
What is the cheapest alternative to Gorgias?

For tiny volumes, Crisp and Zoho Desk have a free version (2 and 3 seats), and Help Scout is free for 5 users.

For a paid shop team, compare per-agent prices (Zendesk Support Team at EUR 19, Freshdesk Growth at $19 annually) with your ticket volume, since Gorgias charges by tickets.

Is there a free alternative to Gorgias?

Help Scout (5 users, 1 inbox), Crisp (2 seats), Zoho Desk (3 users) and HubSpot Service (2 users) offer a free version.

Zammad is open source, and its self-hosted software is free to run, although you manage the server. Free versions limit users, contacts or channels, so check them against your volume.

Which alternative is best for Amazon or eBay sellers?

eDesk lists Amazon, eBay, Walmart and Mirakl among its marketplace integrations, next to Shopify, Magento and WooCommerce. Gorgias names store platforms on its site, not marketplaces. Check your marketplace's messaging rules and test one real conversation in a trial first.

Can I keep the AI agent and drop the helpdesk?

Intercom says Fin can run on your current helpdesk with no seats required, at $0.99 per outcome. Gorgias bundles its AI agent with every plan, so check whether you can use that part without the helpdesk before assuming a split, and ask sales.

Is there a European alternative to Gorgias?

Crisp is a French company in Nantes, Zammad is from Berlin with hosting in German data centres, and eDesk's contracting entity is in Dublin, Ireland. Deskpro has a London office. Country of establishment is a fact here, not a ranking criterion.

Does Gorgias charge per agent?

No. It says its helpdesk is never priced per agent. The price depends on tickets included, with 3 seats on Starter and 500 on the other plans. Automated AI interactions are charged separately, so count both tickets and AI-handled conversations.
