Salesforce Service Cloud alternatives: 11 help desk tools compared

Teams look for a Salesforce Service Cloud alternative when a help desk has turned into a platform project: five published editions from $25 to $550 per user per month, add-ons sold separately, and an administrator needed to run it. They tend to move either to a purpose-built help desk with flat, published per-agent prices, or to a tool that sits inside the CRM or project suite they already pay for.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Salesforce Service Cloud in our help desk ranking are Zendesk, HubSpot Service Hub and Freshdesk. Choose Zendesk if you want a dedicated support product with published per-agent prices. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Help Desk Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Salesforce Service Cloud.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

Salesforce Service Cloud

#14 of 14 in our help desk ranking

  • Pricing: Per user per month, published: Core $195 to Max $550, billed annually; add-ons priced separately
  • Established in: United States
  • Built for: A large service organisation already standardised on Salesforce
  • Not for: A support team of five who need to start on Monday
01

Why buyers look past Salesforce Service Cloud

  1. 01

    The price ladder climbs fast

Salesforce publishes five editions on its service pricing page: Starter Suite at $25, Pro Suite at $100, Core at $195, Advanced at $395 and Max at $550 per user per month. Core, the first edition built for service, is billed annually. A ten-agent team on Core therefore commits to $23,400 a year before any add-on, which is the figure that sends many buyers to compare tools priced per agent in the tens of dollars.

  2. 02

Add-ons sit outside the edition price

The same page marks several items as available for purchase rather than included, among them the Premier Success Plan, Tableau Next, backup and recovery, archiving and the Casey help agent with outcome-based pricing. The page also says it is provided for information only and that detailed pricing needs a sales conversation. A buyer who wants a total cost without a call has little to compare against.

  3. 03

A platform that needs someone to run it

Service Cloud includes Flow Builder, custom profiles and page layouts, the Lightning App Builder and sandboxes, which is configuration power that a small support team may never use. Help desks sold as finished products ask for less set-up. Teams without a Salesforce administrator often find that the cost is the person, not the licence.

What each one does differently

Zendesk

United States · Per agent per month, published; 14-day trial only

Zendesk is the closest like-for-like help desk and is sold per agent with published tiers: Suite Team at 55 euros and Suite Professional at 115 euros per agent per month on annual billing. It is a support product first, so sales and account data would normally stay in a separate system.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if you want a dedicated support product with published per-agent prices.

Zendesk, #9 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

HubSpot Service Hub

United States · Free tier; paid per seat per month, published

HubSpot Service Hub belongs to a CRM suite and offers free and premium plans, so tickets, contacts and deals share one record. Salesforce Service Cloud carries a heavier configuration layer. HubSpot suits smaller teams and gives up Salesforce's depth of customisation and its sandbox and permission model.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if you want service tickets inside a lighter CRM that your sales team already uses.

HubSpot Service Hub, #13 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Freshdesk

United States · Per agent per month, published; 14-day trial only

Freshdesk publishes three plans at $19, $55 and $89 per agent per month on annual billing, a fraction of Core's $195. AI add-ons are priced separately (Freddy AI Copilot is $29 per agent per month), so the headline price is not the whole bill.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if per-agent price is the main reason you are leaving.

Freshdesk, #4 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Zoho Desk

India · Free plan for 3 users; paid per user per month, published

Zoho Desk has a free plan for three users, then Express, Standard, Professional and Enterprise plans billed per user per month. It carries the Zia AI assistant and lives inside Zoho's wider suite, so it fits teams already using Zoho CRM. Live chat through SalesIQ is limited to the Enterprise plan.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if you want a free or low-cost start and already use other Zoho products.

Zoho Desk, #11 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Jira Service Management

United States · Free tier; paid per agent per month, published

Jira Service Management is built for internal and IT requests as well as customer support. It has a free plan for three agents, Standard at $20 and Premium at $51.42 per agent per month. It connects naturally to Jira software teams, but is less oriented to sales-adjacent customer service than Service Cloud.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if your support work is mostly IT or engineering requests and you already run Jira.

Jira Service Management, #12 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Intercom

United States · Per seat per month, published; AI agent charged per outcome

Intercom is organised around messaging and its Fin AI agent, with seats at $19, $85 and $132 per month and Fin charged from $0.99 per resolved outcome. That adds a usage line to the bill that Salesforce's per-user editions do not have. Check how far its ticketing covers your case workflows before committing.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if chat and an AI agent are the core of your support rather than formal case handling.

Intercom, #10 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Help Scout

United States · Free plan for up to 5 users; paid per user per month, published

Help Scout keeps support close to a shared email inbox. It publishes Standard at $25, Plus at $45 and Pro at $75 per user per month, and a free plan with five users, one inbox and one Docs site. Its Pro plan adds the highest scale and security tier, but the product is built around the inbox rather than a configurable platform.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if your team is under about twenty people and mostly answers email.

Help Scout, #1 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Deskpro

United States · Cloud per agent per month, published with agent minimums; on-premise quoted

Deskpro sells per agent with minimums: Team at $39 (minimum five agents), Professional at $59 (ten) and Enterprise at $99 (twenty-five). Its site also lists an on-premise help desk, which Service Cloud does not offer. Minimums make it a poor fit for very small teams.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if you want a mid-sized help desk with an on-premise option.

Deskpro, #8 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Zammad

Germany · Free self-hosted; managed cloud published per agent

Zammad is open source under AGPL-3.0, from Zammad GmbH in Berlin. Hosted plans run in German data centres at 7 to 25 euros per agent per month, or you can self-host and take responsibility for updates and backups. Its depth in CRM, field service and analytics is far below Salesforce's.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if you want open source or German hosting, and no sales-platform features.

Zammad, #7 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Front

United States · Per seat per month, published, $25 to $105 billed annually; 14-day trial only

Front treats support as a shared inbox for teams, with Starter at $25 (up to ten seats), Professional at $65 (up to fifty) and Enterprise at $105 per seat per month on annual billing. Its Autopilot AI agent starts at $0.05 per conversation. Seat caps on the lower plans push growing teams up.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if your customer conversations are mostly collaborative email and chat.

Front, #2 of 14 in our help desk ranking →

Crisp

France · Free plan for 2 seats; paid per workspace per month with seats included, published, low

Crisp is a French chat and support tool (CRISP IM SAS, Nantes) priced per workspace rather than per user: free for two seats, Mini at $45 and Essentials at $95 per month with four and ten seats included. It suits small businesses and is not a replacement for case management at scale.

Switch from Salesforce Service Cloud if you are a small company that wants one flat workspace price instead of per-user licences.

04

When Salesforce Service Cloud is still the right choice

Service Cloud remains the right choice when customer service is one part of a Salesforce estate. If sales, service and account data already share one org, and you have an administrator and a use for Flow Builder, entitlements, sandboxes and Slack integration, a stand-alone help desk will cost you the single customer record. At that scale the licence is a smaller part of the cost than the integration work you would take on.

05

What moving off Salesforce Service Cloud involves

  1. 01

Cases and customer records are the hard part

Case history, contacts and accounts live in the same objects as the rest of your Salesforce data. Decide what must be exported and what can be archived before choosing a tool, and check whether the new help desk can sync with the CRM you keep rather than replace it.

  2. 02

    Automation is rebuilt, not copied

Flows, page layouts and approval processes belong to Salesforce's own model. Expect to recreate routing and escalation rules in the new tool's builder, and use the move to drop rules nobody maintains. Test them on a copy of live traffic before switching the mailbox.

Questions about replacing Salesforce Service Cloud

5 answers
How much does Salesforce Service Cloud cost?

Salesforce publishes Starter Suite at $25, Pro Suite at $100, Core at $195, Advanced at $395 and Max at $550 per user per month. Core is billed annually.

Several items, such as the Premier Success Plan, are sold as add-ons, and the page says detailed pricing requires contacting sales.

What is the cheapest alternative to Salesforce Service Cloud?

Several tools have a free tier: Help Scout (five users), Zoho Desk (three users), Jira Service Management (three agents) and Crisp (two seats). Among paid plans, Zammad starts at 7 euros and Freshdesk at $19 per agent per month on annual billing.

Which alternative works best if we keep Salesforce as our CRM?

Tools that integrate with Salesforce suit this best. Help Scout lists a Salesforce integration on its Plus plan. Check each vendor's integration list for case and contact sync before choosing, because the depth of the integration differs.

Is there a self-hosted alternative?

Zammad is open source under AGPL-3.0 and can be self-hosted, in which case you are responsible for updates, backups and availability. Deskpro's site also lists an on-premise help desk. We found no self-hosted edition of Service Cloud on Salesforce's pricing page.

Is there a European alternative to Salesforce Service Cloud?

Zammad (Zammad GmbH, Berlin, with hosted plans in German data centres) and Crisp (CRISP IM SAS, Nantes, France) are the two European vendors in our help desk list. Both are narrower in scope than Service Cloud.
