FigJam alternatives: 13 online whiteboards tools compared

FigJam alternatives are sought by two groups. Teams outside design find that a whiteboard sold inside Figma's seat model does not fit them, and teams that want a whiteboard on its own want to pay for the board and nothing else. They move to a standalone workshop canvas, a diagramming board, or a whiteboard they already have through a meeting tool.

Short answer: The closest replacements for FigJam in our online whiteboards ranking are Miro, Mural and Whimsical. Choose Miro if you want a whiteboard that is not tied to Figma and plenty of templates. All 13 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Online Whiteboards in 2026, and each says where it differs from FigJam.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

FigJam

#12 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking

  • Pricing: Free Starter plan; per seat per month, published
  • Established in: United States
  • Built for: Product teams already paying for Figma who want boards beside their designs
  • Not for: Organisations with no designers and no other use for Figma
01

Why buyers look past FigJam

  1. 01

It is sold as a Figma seat

The Figma pricing page states FigJam is included with all seats on every plan. The cheapest route in for non-designers is the Collab seat, listed at $3 a month on Professional and $5 on Organization and Enterprise, but the plan is still Figma's. A company that wants only a whiteboard ends up buying into a design platform's seat types (Full, Dev, Collab) and plans.

  2. 02

The free plan is Figma's free plan

FigJam's free access comes with the Starter plan, which Figma describes as free, limited access to its products. The limits are set at the Figma level, and the AI credits and seat rules apply across the product family. A team comparing whiteboards on their own terms finds it harder to see what the board itself costs.

  3. 03

    Built for product teams first

FigJam's own page leads with brainstorming, diagramming, agile retros and planning, and with generating diagrams for an AI coding agent from a board. It integrates with Asana, Jira and GitHub. That suits product and design teams. Facilitators who run client workshops, teachers, or organisations with data-location rules often want a board designed for their situation.

What each one does differently

Miro

United States · Free plan; per member per month, published; Enterprise quoted

Miro is the standalone whiteboard most teams compare against FigJam. Its free plan allows 3 editable boards, Starter costs $8 per member a month billed yearly and Business $20, and visitor editing without sign-in arrives on paid plans. It is a separate subscription rather than a seat inside a design suite.

Switch from FigJam if you want a whiteboard that is not tied to Figma and plenty of templates.

Mural

United States · Free plan; per member per month, published; Enterprise quoted

Mural is a workshop canvas with free, Team+ ($9.99 per member a month billed annually) and Business ($17.99) plans. Its free plan gives unlimited view-only visitors and 3 editable murals at a time, while visitors who can edit need Team+. Sessions are its focus, not design handoff.

Switch from FigJam if you run facilitated workshops with outside participants.

Mural, #11 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Whimsical

United States · Free plan; per editor per month, published

Whimsical covers boards, flowcharts, wireframes, mind maps and docs, charged per editor at $10 a month on Pro and $20 on Business with annual billing. Viewers are always free. The free plan limits you to 50 board objects a month and watermarks exports, so it is a trial, not a free tier.

Switch from FigJam if you diagram and wireframe more than you run live workshops, and viewers outnumber editors.

Whimsical, #6 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Excalidraw

Czechia · Free plan; one paid plan per user per month, published

Excalidraw is open source, needs no account on its free tier and has one paid plan, Plus, at $6 a month per user with a 14-day trial. The canvas is hand-drawn and minimal. It lacks FigJam's structured facilitation tools and large template library.

Switch from FigJam if developers want to sketch quickly and the whiteboard should stay simple.

Excalidraw, #1 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Zoom Whiteboard

United States · Free plan with three boards; Plus per user per month, published

Zoom Whiteboard comes with Zoom Workplace. Whiteboard Basic is included in the free and Pro Workplace plans, an Unlimited add-on is listed from $2.07 per user a month, and Plus costs $8 to $16 per seat. It is strongest inside Zoom meetings and has no design-tool connection.

Switch from FigJam if your team already meets on Zoom and wants the board in the same product.

Zoom Whiteboard, #14 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Klaxoon

United States · Free plan; Starter per host per month, published; Enterprise quoted

Klaxoon, now branded Klaxoon by Wrike, combines a whiteboard with meeting activities such as dot-voting and questions. Its Starter plan is priced per host ($24.90 a month billed annually) with a 20-participant limit on free editing, and the Free plan limits participants to 5 and boards to 50 ideas. The pricing basis is the host.

Switch from FigJam if a few facilitators run sessions for many participants.

Klaxoon, #13 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Conceptboard

Germany · Free plan; per user per month, published; on-premises quoted

Conceptboard states its data centres are in Germany, and the pricing page lists Starter at EUR 5 per user a month, Advanced from EUR 10 and Corporate and Government from EUR 14. Optional IONOS or StackIT hosting is listed. Its audience is public-sector and regulated organisations, not product teams.

Switch from FigJam if German hosting and a public-sector procurement route are requirements.

Conceptboard, #2 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Collaboard

Switzerland · Free plan; per user per month, published; Enterprise quoted

Collaboard offers a free plan, Basic at $6 per user a month billed yearly and Advanced at $11.50. Its Advanced pricing lists cloud hosting in the Netherlands, Switzerland or Germany, and the Enterprise tier adds self-hosting and private deployment. Few other whiteboards give that choice of location.

Switch from FigJam if you must choose where board data sits or self-host the whiteboard.

Collaboard, #3 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Creately

Australia · Free plan; per-user and flat monthly plans, published; on-premises quoted

Creately is a diagramming workspace with a forever-free plan, a Business plan described as for unlimited users, and Enterprise or on-premises options by enquiry. Its pricing page shows its figures only after the page loads in a browser, so we do not quote them. It centres on diagram types more than live facilitation.

Switch from FigJam if you want one price for a whole organisation or an on-premises installation.

Creately, #9 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Draft.io

France · Free plan; paid plans monthly or yearly, published

Draft.io is a workshop canvas where the homepage says collaborators can join in guest mode without logging in. Pro and Team plans start at EUR 8.33 a month per member billed yearly, and a Free plan exists. It has fewer templates and integrations than FigJam.

Switch from FigJam if participants should join a session from a link without making an account.

Draft.io, #4 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Sketchboard

Finland · Free plan; flat monthly bundles of editor seats, published

Sketchboard prices by bundle rather than by every user: a Starter Pack with one editor seat at $6 each extra editor, a Team pack of 5 editors at $20 and a Business pack of 10 editors at $39, each with unlimited free viewers. The free plan is limited. Its sketch-style canvas suits diagrams.

Switch from FigJam if a few people edit while many only view, and you prefer a bundle price.

Sketchboard, #5 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Stormboard

Canada · Quoted per member for Business; Personal plan at zero cost

Stormboard organises sticky notes into reports and exports, with a free Personal plan limited to 5 members per storm, and a Business plan with unlimited members charged per user. Business has a 30-day trial that asks for a card. It is for structured planning sessions, not free-form diagrams.

Switch from FigJam if workshop output must become a report or data file.

Stormboard, #7 of 14 in our online whiteboards ranking →

Ziteboard

Not stated by the vendor · Free plan; weekly, monthly and annual Pro plans, published

Ziteboard is a lightweight browser whiteboard with maths tools such as a formula editor and graph plotter. Its free plan allows 3 owned boards, a one-week Pro pass costs $5 once, monthly Pro $9 and annual Pro $85. It is for teaching and tutoring more than product work.

Switch from FigJam if you tutor or teach and want a cheap short-term pass instead of a subscription.

04

When FigJam is still the right choice

FigJam is the sensible choice when the team already works in Figma. Designers, developers and product managers on Full, Dev or Collab seats get FigJam without a separate subscription, boards sit beside the design files, and the Asana, Jira and GitHub integrations the vendor lists cover the usual follow-up. If the extra cost of leaving is another subscription and another login for people already inside Figma, staying is cheaper and simpler.

05

What moving off FigJam involves

  1. 01

    Check what you actually use

A FigJam board holds sticky notes, stamps, connectors, tables and widgets that may not map one-to-one. Export the boards you want to keep as images or PDFs before changing, and check whether the new tool imports shapes and connectors or just a picture of them. Templates you made yourself must be rebuilt.

  2. 02

Plan the seat and billing change

If the team's seats are Collab seats on a Figma plan, cancelling FigJam does not reduce the bill unless the seats are removed, because FigJam is included in them. Comparing prices means comparing the whole Figma bill with the new tool, not a FigJam line.

Questions about replacing FigJam

6 answers
Is FigJam free?

Figma says FigJam is included with all seats on every plan, and the Starter plan is free with limited access to its products.

Paid use depends on the Figma plan. On the pricing page the Collab seat, which includes full FigJam access, is listed at $3 a month on Professional.

Do I need Figma to use FigJam?

FigJam is a Figma product and is bought through Figma plans and seats.

The FAQ describes the Collab seat as full access to FigJam, Figma Slides and Figma Buzz, with view and comment access in Figma Design files, so you do not need a Full design seat.

What is the closest FigJam alternative?

Miro and Mural are the closest standalone whiteboards, with free plans limited to three editable boards, and Whimsical suits diagrams. Which is closest depends on whether you facilitate workshops or sketch flows.

Is there an open source whiteboard?

Excalidraw is open source and needs no account, with a paid Plus plan for teams. Among the other tools on this page, we found no open source licence stated.

Can I host a whiteboard in a particular country?

Conceptboard states hosting in Germany, and Collaboard lists cloud hosting in the Netherlands, Switzerland or Germany plus self-hosting on Enterprise. Figma's pricing comparison lists localised file hosting for the EU, but it does not say which plan includes it in the part we read.

Can guests join a board without an account?

Draft.io says collaborators can join in guest mode without a login, and Miro lists visitor editing without sign-in on paid plans. For FigJam, check with Figma how guests are treated on your plan.
