Donorbox alternatives: 11 donor management tools compared

Charities look beyond Donorbox for three reasons: a percentage of every gift goes to the platform for as long as they use it, a European tax receipt or payment method is not the centre of the product, or they want the donor record somewhere that is not American. They move to local specialists for receipts and SEPA, to a self-hosted plugin for ownership, or to a fuller database for major-gift work.

Short answer: Looking for a replacement for Donorbox? twingle, RaiseNow and HelloAsso come first in our donor management ranking. Where a category has smaller vendors worth recommending, they occupy the first three places and the big brands come below them. Start with twingle if you raise money in Germany and need the receipt produced correctly. Every one of the 11 products below comes from Best Donor Management Software in 2026, with a note on how it departs from Donorbox.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Donorbox

#8 of 15 in our donor management ranking

  • Pricing: Standard: no monthly fee, 2.95% platform fee per donation; Pro $150 per month, published
  • Established in: United States
  • Built for: Small organisations who need online recurring giving working this week
  • Not for: Large donation volumes where a percentage fee compounds
01

Why buyers look past Donorbox

  1. 01

A fee on every gift, whatever the plan

Donorbox lists Standard at no monthly cost with a platform fee of 2.95% to 3.95%, Pro at 150 dollars a month with 1.75% to 2%, and Premium on request with 1.6% to 2%. The page adds that Stripe or PayPal processing fees are separate. A charity whose giving grows pays more each year, so the free plan is cheapest only while donations are small.

  2. 02

Useful features sit one plan up

Advanced form customisation, tracking and analytics, receipt rebranding, Zapier and API access, crypto and stock gifts and the recurring-donation upsell are listed for Pro or Premium. Zapier and API access can be bought on Standard for 17 dollars a month. Text-to-Give costs 19 or 50 dollars a month, and moving recurring donors in costs a 195 dollar flat fee on lower plans.

  3. 03

An American product with a European reach

The pricing page quotes nonprofit processing rates in US dollars and the company is Rebel Idealist Inc of Virginia. It accepts SEPA and 44 or more currencies, but we saw nothing about Gift Aid, German donation receipts or French tax receipts on the pages we read. Check the receipt your tax authority expects before you sign up.

What each one does differently

twingle

Germany · Published

Twingle takes no monthly fee and charges 2.5% to 5% per donation depending on annual volume, with payment costs inside that figure. Its forms are designed for German donors, with SEPA mandates and the Zuwendungsbestätigung the tax office expects. It holds no deep donor history, so a second system usually keeps the records.

Switch from Donorbox if you raise money in Germany and need the receipt produced correctly.

RaiseNow

Switzerland · Published

RaiseNow is Swiss, with a free plan that takes 1.3% to 2.5% per gift and Growth plans from CHF 225 a month plus 0.5% to 4.4%. Payment methods include TWINT, Swiss direct debit and SEPA. Data is processed mainly in Switzerland or the EU. Segmentation and campaign history need another tool alongside it.

Switch from Donorbox if your donors pay by TWINT or Swiss direct debit and data location matters.

HelloAsso

France · Published

HelloAsso is French and costs the association nothing, since donors are asked for a voluntary contribution at checkout. Memberships, events and donations produce records, and the French tax receipt is generated. It is meant for organisations registered in France, and reporting is basic once the donor list passes a few thousand.

Switch from Donorbox if you are a French association that wants a zero-fee checkout.

Give (GiveWP)

United States · Published

Give is a WordPress plugin: the free core comes from WordPress.org, and Liquid Web now sells three annual plans, with recurring giving on Pro at 399 dollars and funds and tributes on Elite at 599. The donor table lives in your own database, so you can dump it whenever you like. Someone must maintain the WordPress site.

Switch from Donorbox if you already run WordPress and want the donor data in your own database.

Enthuse

United Kingdom · Published

Enthuse is a British service with a monthly platform fee plus card processing, both published. Its strength is Gift Aid: the declaration is collected as the donor gives, stored against the record and turned into the claim. It is not a major-gift or legacy database, and outside the UK its tax handling adds nothing.

Switch from Donorbox if most of your donors are UK taxpayers and Gift Aid claims are the sticking point.

Engaging Networks

United Kingdom · On request

Engaging Networks is a privately owned British company with quoted pricing. Donation pages, recurring gifts, petitions and email share a single supporter record, so a gift can be traced back to the campaign action before it. Pledges, legacies and full gift history belong in a separate CRM.

Switch from Donorbox if you fundraise and campaign from the same list and want one record of both.

iRaiser

France · On request

iRaiser is a French group with a set-up fee and a monthly subscription, quoted per organisation. It has built for several European tax regimes and has local teams in Italy, the Nordics, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany. SEPA recurring giving is native. Pledges and legacy administration are thinner than in a dedicated database.

Switch from Donorbox if you operate in several European countries and need local tax handling in each.

Zeffy

Canada · Published

Zeffy is Canadian and charges the organisation nothing, not even card processing, because donors are prompted for a contribution to the company. Ticketing, memberships, forms and receipts come with it, though the receipting we recorded covers Canada and the United States. Income depends on donors agreeing to tip at checkout.

Switch from Donorbox if you are a North American charity and want to pay no fees at all.

Where Zeffy stands: place 13 of 15 in the donor management ranking →

Funraise

United States · Published

Funraise gives a free plan that keeps 5% of each gift and asks donors to cover the cost, with premium plans quoted. The free plan stops at organisations raising under a million dollars. Forms, recurring giving, events and a donor record are included. Nothing in our record covers European tax relief.

Switch from Donorbox if you are a small US nonprofit and prefer a flat gift percentage to a subscription.

Givebutter

United States · Published

Givebutter is free while donor tips are enabled; with tips off it takes 3% plus card fees, and Plus costs 29 dollars a month. Peer-to-peer pages, events, auctions and a donor record are included. It needs a US bank account and tax number, and custom reports sit in the Plus plan.

Switch from Donorbox if you hold a US bank account and run auctions or peer-to-peer events.

Givebutter holds rank 11 among 15 entries in our donor management guide →

Virtuous

United States · On request

Virtuous is the deepest giving record in the group, with pledges, soft credits, tribute gifts, recurring plans that survive a failed card and behaviour-based automation. Pricing is by quote and steps up with fundraising revenue. Implementation is a project, and the defaults are American.

Switch from Donorbox if major gifts and pledges have outgrown a forms-first tool.

Which alternative for which situation

  1. 01

You raise money in Germany and need the donation receipt right

twingle: It produces the Zuwendungsbestätigung and takes SEPA mandates, at 2.5% to 5% per donation with payment costs included.

  2. 02

You are a French association and want no cost at checkout

HelloAsso: It is free to the association, funded by voluntary donor contributions, and generates the French tax receipt.

  3. 03

You want the donor table in your own database

Give (GiveWP): Give runs on your WordPress site, with Pro at 399 dollars a year for recurring giving.

  4. 04

Most of your donors are UK taxpayers

Enthuse: The Gift Aid declaration is collected as the donor gives and turned into the claim.

  5. 05

You work in several European countries

iRaiser: It has built for several European tax regimes, with local teams in six markets and native SEPA recurring giving.

04

When Donorbox is still the right choice

Donorbox stays the right choice when you need working online giving this week. Forms embed in any site with a snippet, recurring donors get a portal to change amounts and payment details, and the Standard plan carries no monthly cost, so a month without gifts costs nothing. If your volume is modest and your tax receipts are not a problem, the fee may be a fair price for the speed. Compare the total fee at your current giving level before leaving.

05

What moving off Donorbox involves

  1. 01

    Recurring donors need care

Donors on card or SEPA schedules cannot always be copied across by exporting a file. Ask the new vendor whether it migrates stored payment mandates, and keep Donorbox running until the first collection on the new system has succeeded.

  2. 02

    Embedded forms and receipts change

Every page that embeds a Donorbox snippet needs the new code, and receipts will carry new wording. Check that the new receipt meets your tax authority's rules, and tell donors before their next scheduled payment.

Questions about replacing Donorbox

6 answers
What does Donorbox cost?

The pricing page lists Standard as free with a platform fee of 2.95% to 3.95%, Pro at 150 dollars a month with 1.75% to 2%, and Premium on request with 1.6% to 2%. Stripe or PayPal processing fees come on top.

Is there a donation platform with no fee to the charity?

HelloAsso and Zeffy charge the organisation nothing and rely on voluntary donor contributions. Givebutter is free while tips are on. Each funds itself from donors, so decide how you feel about the prompt at checkout.

Which alternative handles German donation receipts?

Twingle produces the Zuwendungsbestätigung in the form the Finanzamt expects. It pairs with a separate donor database for history.

Can I own the donor data outright?

Give runs inside your WordPress database, so the donor table is yours to export at any time. The price is maintaining the site and applying updates.

Does Donorbox accept SEPA payments?

Its recurring-donations page says it accepts cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, ACH, SEPA, Google Pay and more, with support for 44 or more currencies. Whether a SEPA gift is receipted for your tax rules is a separate matter to check.

Which options suit a UK charity?

Enthuse collects the Gift Aid declaration at the moment of giving and produces the claim. Engaging Networks suits UK charities that also campaign.
