Kahoot vs Mentimeter

Kahoot! 360 and Mentimeter both charge the person who presents, and audiences join without a licence. Kahoot sells its Pro tiers by a participant ceiling, from 50 people at $9 a month up to 5,000. Mentimeter removes the participant cap from Basic at $11.99 and charges more only for features, with a free plan capped at 50 participants a month. Mentimeter AB is a Swedish company. Kahoot's pages name no country or owner, so provenance is the clearest gap between them. Prices are in USD and exclude VAT or tax.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

  1. 01

A ceiling of 50 against a ceiling of none

Kahoot! 360 Pro Start is $9 a month ($108 billed annually) for up to 50 participants, Standard is $25 for 200, and Plus is $39 for 1,000. Mentimeter's Basic costs $11.99 per presenter monthly on yearly billing, with unlimited participants. A trainer with 150 attendees needs Kahoot Standard at $25, whereas Mentimeter Basic stays at $11.99. For larger rooms, Mentimeter's lack of a cap is simpler. Always check the group size you expect before choosing a tier from either.

What a free account really allows

Kahoot gives a free account with no card needed, and its Express evaluation plan runs 15-minute sessions for up to 15 participants. Mentimeter's free plan gives 50 participants a month and 23 slide types, with no import or export. Its own page also says unlimited participants once per month, so the cap is inconsistent. Kahoot's free tier is a short test, while Mentimeter's lets a small group use it each month. Kahoot Express suits a quick test, Mentimeter a regular small group.

Top tiers, branding and big events

Kahoot Ultra is $79 a month ($948 annually) for up to 5,000 participants with onboarding required, and Max is also $79 for up to 2,000. Our notes say Max adds custom branding and learning paths, and that rights for external events appear only in Ultra. Mentimeter's Pro at $24.99 adds custom themes, team collaboration and Quick Forms, while Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM and priority support at a custom price. Pick the tier by group size and by whether branding matters.

    Depends on the buyer

  4. 04

    Counting presenters, not audiences

Kahoot licenses its Pro plans per presenter, participants need no licence, and its Team plan needs at least 25 licences with no price shown. Mentimeter also bills per presenter, so a team with many hosts multiplies the bill. The Pro price at Mentimeter is billed yearly, and only Basic offers monthly billing. Both pages exclude tax. Neither gives an edge for large teams of hosts. Add up the number of hosts before you compare monthly prices.

  5. 05

    Trial, refund and invoice terms

Kahoot offers a free seven-day trial of Kahoot! 360 Pro through an enquiry form. Mentimeter mentions no trial, but gives a full refund if you cancel within 14 days and have not used it at a live event, and Pro can be invoiced by bank transfer with Net-30 terms in selected countries. A trial lets you test a live session before paying, which a refund only partly replaces. Kahoot has the edge on trying first.

    Named company, law and integrations

Mentimeter's terms name Mentimeter AB (publ), a Swedish limited liability company under Swedish law with arbitration in Stockholm. Its features page names Zoom, Teams, Moodle, Canvas, PowerPoint and Blackboard. Kahoot's pages show no country or owner, and they list no integrations. A buyer who must file a contracting party for procurement will find Mentimeter far easier to document. Procurement teams often need exactly that detail on file.

Kahoot or Mentimeter: questions

3 answers
Will my audience need an account to join?

Kahoot's pages say participants need no licence, because only presenters are licensed. Mentimeter's home page says participants in Menti Live join without a login. The presenter is the one who pays at both.

Which one lets me avoid a participant cap on a paid plan?

Mentimeter. Its Basic tier, $11.99 for each presenter monthly on a yearly contract, has unlimited participants. Kahoot's Pro tiers stop at 50, 200, 1,000, 2,000 or 5,000 people depending on plan.

Is Kahoot a European company?

The Kahoot! 360 pages we read state neither a country nor an owner, so we cannot say. Mentimeter's terms name Mentimeter AB, a Swedish limited liability company.
