Hotjar vs FullStory
The question with Hotjar is no longer which plan to pick, because its own site says it is now Contentsquare and that new accounts cannot be created. Existing users log in as before, and anyone new is sent to Contentsquare, where a free tier and a 15-day Growth trial are listed. FullstoryFree is a permanent plan that anyone can open today, with 30,000 sessions a month, ten users and twelve months of retention. Fullstory then switches to quotes for every paid step, while Contentsquare shows dollar prices for its Growth plans.
Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.
you already run Hotjar and only need it to keep working until you move across to Contentsquare. Or you are happy to buy through Contentsquare, where Growth plans show a monthly dollar price.
you want to open a free account today without a card, keep a year of session data, and choose whether the data centre sits in the United States or the European Union. Expect a sales call once you need a paid plan.

Where they differ

A front door that has closed
Hotjar's pages state that Hotjar is now Contentsquare, that the two platforms have merged, and that it is no longer possible to create a new Hotjar account. Existing users keep their credentials, and the pricing address redirects to Contentsquare. Fullstory has no such restriction on the pages we read: FullstoryFree needs no credit card and is described in its FAQ as a permanent version of the platform. For someone choosing a tool this week, only one of the two can be opened.

Sessions against memory
Hotjar's old free plan allowed 35 sessions a day, 20 survey responses a month and 2 integrations. Contentsquare Free, where new users land, lists up to 200,000 monthly sessions but only one month of data access and one project. FullstoryFree gives 30,000 sessions a month, up to ten users and twelve months of retention. The first route is much bigger in volume, while the second remembers far longer, so the right choice depends on whether you need breadth or history.

Dollar figures you can read
On the Contentsquare pricing page, Experience Analytics Growth shows $39 a month (struck through from $49) for 7,000 to 240,000 plus monthly sessions, and Voice of Customer Growth shows $79. Pro and Enterprise are custom. Fullstory's pricing page shows no figure for Business, Advanced or Enterprise, only a request for pricing and a demo, and the add-ons carry no published prices either. Contentsquare is the easier side to cost out ahead of a first call.

What the first fifteen days look like
Contentsquare's FAQ says new accounts receive a 15-day free trial of the Growth plans, with no payment details required. That lets a team test paid heatmap and replay features before committing. The Fullstory pricing page mentions no trial of its paid plans; the route in is the free plan, followed by a demo request. If you want to see paid features in your own product without a conversation, the Contentsquare trial is the shorter path.

Where the recordings are stored
Fullstory's privacy policy says it has data centres in the United States and in the European Union, and that customers can designate which one supports their account. Its pricing page also lists AES-256 persistent encryption, SAML single sign-on, and IP, location and user-agent restrictions. The Hotjar and Contentsquare pages we read link to a trust portal but state no hosting location, residency, GDPR, ISO or SOC 2 claim. On hosting questions, Fullstory is the side that answers in writing.

Whose name goes on the contract
Hotjar's terms are Contentsquare's Master Service Agreement, and the contracting entity depends on where the customer is domiciled; one entity named in the pack is Content Square SAS in Paris. The footer on the pages we read shows only Contentsquare. Fullstory contracts through Fullstory, Inc., a Delaware corporation, with offices in Atlanta, London, Sydney and Singapore, and its owner is not stated on the pages we read. Neither side is simpler, since each names a legal entity.
Depends on the buyer
When neither fits
If you want a free tool without a sales conversation, look at Microsoft Clarity. If you prefer to run the tooling yourself or want product analytics alongside recordings, PostHog is the alternative to check.
