GPTZero vs Originality.ai

These detectors started from different customers. GPTZero grew in education, with Canvas and Google Classroom connections and a replay of how a document was typed. Originality.ai prices by volume for publishers and agencies, with one credit scanning 100 words and published plans in US dollars. The practical gap is cost clarity: Originality.ai prints Pro at USD 14.95 and Enterprise at USD 179 a month, while the GPTZero team plan showed a placeholder of USD 0 in our fetch, so single-user cost stays unconfirmed. Check GPTZero's current rates before you commit.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

  1. 01

Ten thousand words once, or three scans a day

Originality.ai's free plan costs USD 0 with no subscription. The plan card says 10K words, which is 100 credits, one time, while the comparison table lists 60 credits renewing daily, or 3 scans a day. We read both, and the page does not reconcile them. GPTZero shows a Get started for free button, but the page we read describes no free plan, trial length or limits. For testing before paying, Originality.ai tells you more, even with the inconsistency.

  2. 02

A USD 0 placeholder on the team plan

GPTZero's Professional Team Plan is seat-based and self-serve, with a monthly or annual toggle and an annual saving labelled 45 percent. It allows 500,000 words per member per month, shares team credits and needs at least 2 seats. The price cells read USD 0 a month, which looks like a placeholder, and the individual and Student plans show no numbers. A team cannot budget from that page. The 500,000 allowance is generous, but its cost is unconfirmed.

  3. 03

Pro at USD 14.95, Enterprise at USD 179

Originality.ai sells Pro at USD 14.95 a month, or USD 12.95 a month billed as USD 155.40 a year, with 200K words (2,000 credits) monthly. Enterprise costs USD 179 monthly, or USD 136.58 a month billed as USD 1,638.96 a year, with 1.5M words (15,000 credits). Extra seats cost USD 9.95 a month on Pro and USD 24.95 on Enterprise. Credits expire at month end. The ladder is clear to budget against, though a quiet month wastes the allowance.

  4. 04

Cards only, purchase orders through sales

GPTZero accepts card payment only on the team plan. Purchase orders, invoicing and larger teams go through sales, and API plans are quoted via Contact Sales. That adds a conversation for any organisation whose finance team insists on invoices. Originality.ai lists Enterprise with prices and shows no contact-sales requirement, though API access appears only at that tier. The two are not equal for a procurement-heavy buyer: Originality.ai lets you buy without talking to anyone, while GPTZero sends you to a sales contact.

  5. 05

Replay, Canvas and a SOC 2 Type II mention

GPTZero names Canvas, Google Classroom, Google Docs, a Chrome extension, Zapier and an API, plus Writing Replay, which records the typing process and gives evidence beyond a probability score. It also lists SOC 2 Type II compliance and a trust centre, which shortens a security review. Originality.ai's pages as we read them describe bulk scan, scan history and extra seats instead, and none of the classroom features are named there. For a teacher defending a decision to a student, GPTZero's record is the stronger item.

New York on one side, Collingwood on the other

GPTZero's terms name GPTZero LLC, registered in New York, with its office at 228 Park Ave S. The privacy policy is issued by GPTZero Inc. at the same address, so the entity name differs between the two documents. Originality.ai's privacy policy names Originality AI Inc. at 64 Hurontario St, Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. Its terms and terms-of-service pages returned HTTP 404, so we read no governing-law statement. Neither company is European, which matters if your policy requires a European vendor.

When neither fits

If you need a European vendor, neither of these fits, since the pages show a US and a Canadian company. Pangram and Winston AI are listed in our AI content detector category as alternatives to read next.

GPTZero or Originality.ai: questions

3 answers
Why can't this page quote a GPTZero price per month?

The pricing page we fetched showed USD 0 a month and USD 0 billed annually on the team plan, which looks like a placeholder.

The individual plans showed no numbers, and the Student plan was an image only. Confirm the current rate on the vendor page before buying.

What does a credit buy on Originality.ai?

One credit scans 100 words. Pro includes 2,000 credits, or 200K words, each month, and Enterprise 15,000 credits, or 1.5M words. Monthly credits expire at month end.

Does Originality.ai show a mistake on its own pricing page?

Yes, the comparison table lists the Free plan at USD 179 a month, which conflicts with the USD 0 on the plan card. We treated the plan card as the intended price. It is worth confirming at checkout.
