DocuSign eSignature vs Adobe Acrobat Sign

Docusign sells e-signature as its own product in four tiers, three of them priced on the page and counted in envelopes. Adobe sells signing inside Acrobat team licences and points larger buyers to a separate Acrobat Sign product with no listed price. Docusign is the one you can budget from a web page; Adobe suits buyers who already hold Acrobat and want no envelope counter.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

What the price page lets you budget

Docusign lists Personal at $10 a month, Standard at $25 and Business Pro at $40 per user, with Enterprise on request. Adobe's small business page lists Acrobat Pro for teams at $23.99 and Acrobat Studio for teams at $29.99 per licence per month, and shows no price for standalone Acrobat Sign. Only one side can be priced end to end from its site.

  2. 02

    Volume limits

Docusign Personal allows 5 envelopes a month, and Standard and Business Pro allow 100 envelopes per user per year, so a busy sender hits a ceiling. Adobe states there are no usage caps on eSignatures in Acrobat for teams plans. For high-volume senders on small teams, Adobe's team plans remove the counter that Docusign keeps.

  3. 03

Standalone signing versus a PDF suite

Docusign's tiers are built around signing: Standard adds shared templates and custom branding, Business Pro adds web forms, payment collection and bulk send. Adobe's team plans bundle signing with the Acrobat PDF editor, and the page lists branding, reusable forms and audit trails. If PDF editing is not needed, Adobe's team plans charge for a suite.

  4. 04

    Team size and seats

Adobe's team plans allow up to 10 licences, and the page points larger businesses to Acrobat Sign with unlimited seats, without a price. Docusign shows the same per-user tiers for any team size and sends Enterprise buyers to sales. Past ten people Adobe becomes a sales conversation, and Docusign does too, but only at Enterprise.

    Where the vendor is based

Docusign states its privacy contact as Docusign Inc. in San Francisco, with Docusign International (EMEA) Ltd. for visitors from the EEA. The Adobe privacy policy we read names Adobe Ireland in Dublin for people outside North America and gives no headquarters address. Neither is an EU-owned vendor; we did not rank on this.

When neither fits

If you want signing without envelope allowances or a PDF suite, the category has other options. Dropbox Sign and Skribble are in our e-signature ranking; check their own price pages before assuming either is cheaper.

DocuSign eSignature or Adobe Acrobat Sign: questions

4 answers
Is Docusign more expensive than Adobe Acrobat Sign?

We cannot say from the vendor pages. Docusign publishes $10, $25 and $40 per user per month for Personal, Standard and Business Pro. Adobe lists $23.99 per licence for Acrobat Pro for teams, which includes signing, and no price for standalone Acrobat Sign.

Does Docusign limit how many documents I can send?

Yes. Personal allows 5 envelopes a month. Standard and Business Pro allow 100 envelopes per user per year, according to the Docusign pricing page. The page does not say what happens when the limit is reached.

Is there a free trial?

Docusign shows a free trial offer but does not state its length on the pages we read.

Adobe states a free trial for its team plans of up to 10 licences, and a fee of half the remaining annual commitment if you cancel after 14 days following the trial.

Can Adobe Acrobat Sign be bought for large teams?

Adobe describes Acrobat Sign as a standalone e-signature solution with unlimited seats for medium and large businesses and refers buyers to sales. No price is listed.
