Synthesia alternatives: 11 AI video generators tools compared
People look at Synthesia alternatives when the credit pool runs out faster than expected, when they need a free tier that can be published, or when the job is not a presenter reading a script at all. Some want cheaper minutes, some want training exports, some want generated scenes or an editor instead of avatars.
Short answer: The first three alternatives to Synthesia in our AI video generators ranking are Colossyan, Elai and Fliki. Our rule for order: vendors outside the big brands go first, and the largest names are not placed in the top three. Choose Colossyan if you want extra seats priced openly and a free tier to test with. The 11 entries that follow are all ranked in Best AI Video Generators in 2026; each one explains what sets it apart from Synthesia.
Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.
Pricing: Free plan; credit-based monthly tiers, published
Established in: United Kingdom
Built for: Training and onboarding teams producing scripted presenter videos in many languages
Not for: Teams wanting invented cinematic scenes instead of a presenter

Why buyers look past Synthesia
01
Credits are spent faster than the plan name suggests
Synthesia states that a finished minute of video uses about 100 credits. Starter on monthly billing holds 1,250 credits, which its page converts to roughly 12 minutes, and Pro holds 6,000 for about 60. Plan credits reset each billing period, so unused minutes do not carry over.
02
The free plan is a trial, not a working tier
Basic gives 500 credits, 9 AI avatars and 10 minutes of Studio creation, and every video carries a Synthesia watermark. The logo is removed from Starter upwards. Anyone who needs to publish without paying has to look elsewhere.
03
Team features sit in the quote-only tier
Starter and Pro each include one editor, with 3 and 5 guests. SAML/SSO, SCORM export, Brand Kits, live team collaboration and one-click translation are listed for Enterprise only, which is priced on request. A small learning team can reach those limits early.

Colossyan
United States · Published
Colossyan lists a free Starter plan with 20 minutes a month on its NEO avatar engine, and a Professional plan at 59 dollars a month on yearly billing with 30 additional dollars per extra member. Data residency in the EU or US and SSO appear on Enterprise only. Our category record also notes a four-hour daily generation cap in its terms.
Switch from Synthesia if you want extra seats priced openly and a free tier to test with.
Elai quotes its allowance in minutes: Free gives 1, Creator 15 at 29 dollars a month and Team 50 at 125 dollars with three editors and three guests. Annual billing brings Creator to 23 dollars a month. Extra minutes cost 2 dollars each on paid plans, so you can calculate cost per finished video before you commit.
Switch from Synthesia if you want to divide a monthly fee by minutes of output.
Fliki pairs text-to-video with a large voice library and sells Free, Standard and Premium tiers plus Enterprise. Paid plans include a commercial licence and remove the watermark, while export length is capped by tier. The terms name Nine Thirty Five LLC, with a Delaware address, as the contracting party.
Switch from Synthesia if narration quality and voice choice matter more than avatar realism.
D-ID runs a studio, an API and a self-hosted version of its real-time avatars that sits in the buyer's own cloud, sold as an annual platform licence. Studio minutes renew monthly without accumulating, and Trial and Lite videos carry a full-screen watermark. We could not read plan prices on its pricing page.
Switch from Synthesia if you want avatars inside your own infrastructure or behind an API.
Pictory builds videos from stock footage and your own recordings, which costs less than generating each scene. Its site shows four tiers with a free trial on each, and the team plan starts at three users. Generative clips are thin on the entry tier, so it works as an editor with a script-to-video step.
Switch from Synthesia if your videos are mostly stock footage and screen recordings with a voiceover.
Vyond makes animated explainers in a consistent house style, with AI avatars and text-to-video added later. It charges per user: Starter and Professional first, annual billing cheaper, and Agency available annually only. Credits are capped per user each month. Our category record ranks it the priciest per seat of this group.
Switch from Synthesia if you want animated characters and scenes, not a filmed-looking presenter.
VEED started as a browser video editor and added an AI generator, avatars and subtitle tools. It invites you to start free, meters AI features with credits and charges per seat. Subtitle and translation limits vary by plan. Its plan figures did not render when we checked.
Switch from Synthesia if you edit footage as well as generate it and want subtitles in the same tool.
HeyGen offers a free plan with 3 watermarked videos of up to one minute a month, then Creator at 29 dollars (24 billed annually) with 600 credits, Pro from 49 and Business at 149 plus 20 dollars per added seat. SCORM export starts at Business. Its terms limit free output to non-commercial use.
Switch from Synthesia if you want voice cloning and a photo avatar, and can use credit tiers.
Runway builds its own Gen-4.5 model and lets you spend the same credits on models from other labs. Our record puts a five-second Gen-4.5 clip at 60 credits, about 52 seconds a month on the cheapest paid tier. It generates invented scenes, so a presenter reading a training script is not what it does.
Switch from Synthesia if you need cinematic generated clips instead of a talking presenter.
Luma sells credit tiers covering its Ray models and third-party ones, priced per second of output. Individual plans start at Plus, with a team plan on contact. Costs swing with the model chosen: Veo 3.1 is listed at several times the per-second credits of Luma's own draft modes.
Switch from Synthesia if you want prompt-driven shots and accept clip-by-clip costs.
Pika offers monthly credit tiers that open its Pika 2.5 model and several third-party models. The free plan carries no monthly credits and no commercial licence, which starts at Creator, and priority queue only at Fancy. Its output fits short social clips better than scripted business video.
Switch from Synthesia if short vertical social clips are the output you need.
Colossyan: The free Starter plan gives 20 minutes a month on the NEO engine; watermark removal starts at Professional.
02
You want to know the cost of each finished minute
Elai: Creator gives 15 minutes at 29 dollars and extra minutes cost 2 dollars each on paid plans.
03
You need avatars running in your own infrastructure
D-ID: It sells a self-hosted version of its real-time avatars as an annual licence, with an API beside the studio.
04
You need SCORM export without a quote
HeyGen: Business at 149 dollars a month lists SCORM export, with added seats at 20 dollars each.
05
You want generated scenes rather than a presenter
Runway: It runs its own Gen-4.5 model, and five seconds of it costs 60 credits.
04
When Synthesia is still the right choice
Synthesia stays a sound choice when the output is a presenter on screen reading a script, as in onboarding, compliance and product training. It is an independent, single-purpose supplier, lists 140+ languages and voices on every plan, and offers 125+ avatars from Starter. If your volume fits the Starter or Pro credit pool and a watermark-free export is enough, switching adds work without a clear gain.
05
What moving off Synthesia involves
01
Rebuilding avatars and voices
Personal avatars are tied to the account that made them: Synthesia lists 3 on Starter and 5 on Pro. Expect to record or generate them again in the new tool and to compare the voice for every language you publish in.
02
Scripts move, scenes do not
Your scripts and slide text are portable, but templates, brand kits and scene layouts are not. Rebuild one real training video end to end before moving the library, and count how many minutes it consumes under the new allowance.
