ElevenLabs alternatives: 11 AI voice generators tools compared

People look for an ElevenLabs alternative when one shared credit pool covers speech, music, dubbing and the API and the bill is hard to forecast, or when a cancelled plan forfeits unused credits. They move to studio tools with minute allowances, to API vendors billed per character, or to the cloud speech services of AWS, Google and Microsoft.

Short answer: Looking for a replacement for ElevenLabs? Cartesia, Fish Audio and Murf come first in our AI voice generators ranking. Our rule for order: vendors outside the big brands go first, and the largest names are not placed in the top three. Start with Cartesia if you build a voice product and want a much lower entry price for commercial use. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best AI Voice Generators in 2026, and each says where it differs from ElevenLabs.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

ElevenLabs

#7 of 12 in our AI voice generators ranking

  • Pricing: Free plan; monthly credit plans published
  • Established in: United States
  • Built for: Producers wanting many languages and cloning from one account, from creator to business
  • Not for: Teams needing predictable cost when mixing dubbing, music and narration
01

Why buyers look past ElevenLabs

  1. 01

One credit pool for every product

ElevenLabs draws speech, speech to text, music, sound effects, voice changing and dubbing from the same monthly credits. Text to speech costs about 1 credit per character on multilingual models, while dubbing costs 2,000 to 10,000 credits per minute. A team that adds dubbing to a narration workload can empty a plan sooner than the headline credit count suggests.

  2. 02

Unused credits depend on staying subscribed

Unused credits roll over for up to two months, but only while you keep an active paid plan and do not downgrade. Cancelling or downgrading forfeits unused paid credits at the end of the cycle, and the Free plan has no rollover. Charges are per generation request, not per download, so unsatisfactory takes still cost credits unless a free regeneration is offered.

  3. 03

Price steps between plans are large

The published monthly plans run Starter $6, Creator $22, Pro $99, Scale $299 and Business $990. Professional voice cloning starts at Creator, workspace seats start at Scale (3) and the Business plan includes 10 seats. A buyer who needs one extra feature, such as team seats, is pushed into a plan several times more expensive.

What each one does differently

Cartesia

United States · Published

A speech model vendor on monthly credit plans: Free gives 20K credits (about 27 minutes), Pro $5 a month gives 100K (about 133 minutes) with a commercial licence and instant cloning. Concurrent requests are capped at 2 on Free and 3 on Pro. It sells streaming speech for products, not a studio editor for narrators.

Switch from ElevenLabs if you build a voice product and want a much lower entry price for commercial use.

Fish Audio

United States · Published

Credit plans with a Free tier of 8,000 credits a month, Plus $11 a month billed annually for 250,000 credits and Pro for 2,000,000. Free output is capped at 500 characters per generation. Enterprise adds zero data retention and on-premise deployment, and its fish-speech repository uses the Fish Audio Community Licence.

Switch from ElevenLabs if you want a credit model with a cheap commercial tier and enterprise on-premise as an option.

Murf

United States · Published

Carried-over generation time lasts one billing period and is lost if the subscription is cancelled, and broadcasting rights are Enterprise only. The API is pay as you go at $0.03 per 1,000 characters, and a Falcon 2 on-premise model exists. Murf has no music or dubbing credit pool of the ElevenLabs kind.

Switch from ElevenLabs if you produce studio voiceover for training or marketing and accept losing carried-over time on cancellation.

WellSaid Labs

United States · Published

Bills by minutes of finished audio you download, not by characters generated. Starter is $19 a month (20 minutes) and Pro $49 (180 minutes) on monthly billing, with generation unlimited and full commercial rights on paid plans. Voices are curated actors, and Starter and Pro list English voices only.

Switch from ElevenLabs if you need predictable downloaded minutes and licensed voices for corporate narration.

Typecast

South Korea · Published

A character-voice studio where generating and playing audio is free and only downloads use credits. Free gives 3,000 lifetime credits (about 5 minutes), Basic $5 a month 30,000 credits and Pro $29 a month 75,000. Free downloads require attribution, and the Basic plan allows one cloning slot. It targets video and character work, not API-scale text to speech.

Switch from ElevenLabs if you audition many takes before exporting and want to pay only for what you download.

Speechify

United States · Published

Monthly plans have no annual commitment, and voice cloning is included from Starter. It has no dubbing or music tools.

Switch from ElevenLabs if you want a plain per-character API bill in dollars with no credit conversion.

Narakeet

Descript

United States · Published

Switch from ElevenLabs if your voice work is patching spoken recordings inside an editor, not generating long narration.

Amazon Polly

Google Cloud Text-to-Speech

United States · Published

United States · See profile

Custom voice access is limited by eligibility and applications, and neural speech can run in a container in your own environment. It has no consumer studio.

Switch from ElevenLabs if you need speech inside Azure or a container you run yourself, with enterprise governance.

When ElevenLabs is still the right choice

ElevenLabs is still the right choice when you use several of its products together: speech, voice cloning, dubbing and the API from one account and one credit pool. Instant cloning starts at the $6 Starter plan, professional cloning at Creator, and the API lists text to speech at $0.04 to $0.08 per 1,000 characters depending on model. If you rarely cancel, use the rollover and want one vendor for audio, the shared pool is an advantage, not a cost.

05

What moving off ElevenLabs involves

  1. 01

Download everything and note your clones first

Export the finished audio you need before you cancel, because unused paid credits expire when a plan ends. Voice clones are tied to the platform, so a replacement vendor needs fresh consent and fresh samples. Check the new vendor's cloning rules and plan limits before you promise a voice to a client.

  2. 02

Convert credits to the new vendor's unit

Count your last three months in characters, minutes of finished audio and minutes of dubbing, then price each alternative in its own unit. Narakeet bills produced minutes, WellSaid downloaded minutes, Typecast download credits and Polly characters, so the same workload gives four different invoices.

  3. 03

Run a paid test on your real script

Free tiers differ: Murf's trial allows no downloads, Fish Audio's free output is capped at 500 characters per generation and Typecast's Free plan needs attribution. Buy the smallest paid plan for one month and generate your longest script before moving a production workflow.

Questions about replacing ElevenLabs

6 answers
What is the cheapest alternative to ElevenLabs?

For commercial use by the month, Cartesia Pro at $5 and Typecast Basic at $5 undercut ElevenLabs Starter at $6, though their credits convert differently. Amazon Polly Standard at $4.00 per million characters is the lowest list rate for plain API speech.

Is there a free alternative to ElevenLabs?

Cartesia (20K credits), Fish Audio (8,000 credits), Speechify's API (500K characters a month), Typecast (3,000 lifetime credits) and the free tiers of Polly, Google and Azure all have a no-charge allowance.

Check whether each allows commercial use and downloads, since several limit one or the other.

Which alternative is best for an API?

Speechify, Cartesia, Murf, Polly, Google and Azure all publish an API route. Speechify and Polly bill per character, Cartesia in credits, Murf at $0.03 per 1,000 characters pay as you go. Compare latency and concurrency limits on your own workload, which we have not measured.

Can I move my cloned voice to another tool?

Not as a file we could verify on the vendor pages. Each platform creates its own clone from samples, with its own plan limit, such as one slot on Typecast Basic. Plan for re-recording or re-uploading consent samples.

Which options bill by minutes instead of characters?

Narakeet bills produced minutes, WellSaid Labs downloaded minutes and Murf voice generation time. Typecast bills download credits. That suits narration with a known length and fits less well when you regenerate often, so compare how each counts retakes.

Can I run an alternative on my own infrastructure?

Murf describes a Falcon 2 on-premise model, Fish Audio lists on-premise deployment for Enterprise, and Azure offers neural text to speech as a container. Each is a sales conversation, not a self-serve download.
