SAP S/4HANA Cloud alternatives: 10 ERP tools compared

Companies look beyond SAP S/4HANA Cloud for three reasons: the quote-only price, the scale of a programme built for a much larger organisation, and the wish to run a subsidiary or a mid-sized business on something lighter. They move to cloud ERP with published per-user prices, to a smaller SAP product, or to open-source suites priced by hosting.

Short answer: The closest replacements for SAP S/4HANA Cloud in our ERP ranking are Oracle NetSuite, Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics 365 Finance. Choose Oracle NetSuite if you run several subsidiaries and want one cloud system under a single annual licence. All 10 alternatives below are ranked products from Best ERP Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

Why buyers look past SAP S/4HANA Cloud

  1. 01

The price exists only as a quote

SAP's S/4HANA Cloud page offers a subscription-based model and a Request a quote button, and no price. Buyers cannot compare it with the published per-user prices of Business Central ($80 to $110 a month) or Odoo before a sales process starts. Teams that need a budget figure early often start from the products that publish one.

  2. 02

A public edition built on preconfigured processes

The public edition ships with preconfigured best-practice processes and updates that SAP manages. That is the source of the speed SAP advertises, and it also means you adopt the standard process rather than reshape the system. Companies whose way of working is the point of the business sometimes look for an ERP they can adapt more freely.

  3. 03

Designed for a larger organisation than yours

SAP describes more than 110,000 employees and a footprint in over 157 countries, and positions S/4HANA across finance, supply chain, HR and sales. A subsidiary or a firm of a few hundred people may need only a fraction of that. SAP's own answer is a second product, Business One, aimed at smaller businesses.

Switch from SAP S/4HANA Cloud if you want to stay with SAP at the scale of a subsidiary or smaller business.

SAP Business One, #11 of 12 in our ERP ranking →

Acumatica

United States · Quoted through partners, by applications and resource level; unlimited users

Acumatica prices by the applications you deploy and the resources you use, and states that users are unlimited, so headcount does not drive the quote. Prices are not published and go through a custom review. The deployment licence is chosen separately.

Switch from SAP S/4HANA Cloud if many casual users would make per-seat licensing expensive.

Acumatica, #3 of 12 in our ERP ranking →

Odoo

Belgium · Free community edition; paid per user per month, published

Odoo is modular and sold per user: one app is free for unlimited users, and paid plans include all apps. Its Community edition is open source under the LGPL, and the Custom plan adds Odoo.sh and on-premise hosting. The company is headquartered in Grand Rosiere, Belgium. S/4HANA Cloud publishes no price.

Switch from SAP S/4HANA Cloud if you want a modular suite with a free entry point and an open-source core.

Switch from SAP S/4HANA Cloud if your business matches one of the vertical configurations.

Infor CloudSuite, #9 of 12 in our ERP ranking →

IFS Cloud

Sweden · Quoted per organisation

IFS lists Cloud ERP, enterprise asset management and field service management as the categories in which it is recognised as a Gartner Peer Insights Customers' Choice. Pricing is by quote. For a firm without equipment, maintenance or field engineers, that scope goes unused.

Switch from SAP S/4HANA Cloud if equipment, maintenance or field service is the business itself.

IFS Cloud, #5 of 12 in our ERP ranking →

Exact Globe+

Netherlands · Quoted per organisation; per module and per user

Exact is headquartered in Delft, the Netherlands, and offers Exact Globe and Exact Online to entrepreneurs, finance teams and accountancy firms, with wholesale, manufacturing, construction and hospitality as named operational segments. It claims over 675,000 businesses and accountants as users.

Switch from SAP S/4HANA Cloud if you want a Dutch vendor that accountants in your market already work with.

Exact Globe+, #6 of 12 in our ERP ranking →

ERPNext

India · Free self-hosted; managed cloud published per site or server, not per user

ERPNext is free and open source under GPL-3.0 and is priced by hosting, not by user: Frappe Cloud sites start at $5 a month and servers at $20, or you self-host from GitHub. A network of 200+ certified partners handles implementation. S/4HANA Cloud publishes no price.

Switch from SAP S/4HANA Cloud if you want to avoid per-user licensing and can run or buy hosting yourself.

When SAP S/4HANA Cloud is still the right choice

S/4HANA Cloud remains the sensible choice when the business is large, multi-country and process-heavy, and when finance, supply chain, HR and sales must run on one vendor's data model. SAP manages updates, security and backups, and one customer story describes a two-tier model with a private cloud for one region and the public edition for newly acquired European units. If your processes can sit inside the preconfigured standard and the programme budget is approved, the lighter products offer less than you need.

05

What moving off SAP S/4HANA Cloud involves

  1. 01

Check which processes you would give up

The public edition rests on preconfigured processes. Before comparing prices, list the custom processes you run today and decide which the new system must keep. Open-source suites such as Odoo and ERPNext are easiest to adapt; the vendor-run clouds are quicker to start but follow their own standard.

  2. 02

Plan the data and the cutover, not just the licence

An ERP move is mostly data: charts of accounts, open items, item masters and history. Decide how much history to carry, run two parallel closes before switching, and keep the old system readable until the audit cycle that needs it has passed.

  3. 03

Ask each vendor for the full cost, not the licence line

Published per-user prices such as Business Central's leave out the partner who implements it, and quote-only vendors leave out everything. Ask for licence, implementation, hosting, support and expected annual increases in one offer for the same number of users and entities.

Questions about replacing SAP S/4HANA Cloud

6 answers
What is the closest alternative to SAP S/4HANA Cloud?

For a company that wants to stay with SAP, SAP Business One is the smaller product, deployable in the cloud or on-premise.

Outside SAP, Oracle NetSuite and Dynamics 365 Finance are the closest cloud suites by ambition, while NetSuite pairs finance with inventory, orders and supply chain in one subscription.

Is there an open-source alternative to SAP S/4HANA?

Yes. Odoo has an open-source Community edition under the LGPL, and ERPNext is free and open source under GPL-3.0. Both can be self-hosted, and both are sold with hosting or partner services on top. Neither is a like-for-like replacement for SAP at multinational scale.

Which alternative publishes its prices?

Microsoft publishes Business Central at $80 (Essentials) and $110 (Premium) per user per month, and Dynamics 365 Finance at $210 and $300, all paid yearly. Odoo and ERPNext also publish plans. SAP, NetSuite, Acumatica, Infor and IFS do not.

Can an ERP be priced without counting users?

Yes. Acumatica states that users are unlimited and prices by applications and resources. ERPNext is priced by hosting, from $5 a month for a site on Frappe Cloud. Odoo's entry plan covers one app for unlimited users.

Does S/4HANA Cloud run on-premise?

SAP's page for the public edition describes a subscription cloud service. SAP also names a private-cloud route in a customer story. For an on-premise ERP, SAP Business One is documented as available in the cloud or on-premise, as are Odoo's Custom plan and ERPNext.

Is S/4HANA Cloud suitable for midsize companies?

SAP's page lists the question among its FAQs, and the product is sold on fast initial delivery and a modular scope. We could not retrieve SAP's answer. For a smaller business, SAP Business One is the product SAP describes for that size.
