Relativity alternatives: 11 ediscovery tools compared

Teams looking past Relativity usually have a budget question or a placement question: the price rests on a committed data volume with extras licensed separately, and the platform is described as cloud-based, with FedRAMP Moderate attached to the government edition only. The alternatives below range from one-price quotes and pay-as-you-go to installed products and services partners.

Short answer: We open the ranking with smaller vendors and put the established brands from fourth place onward. For Relativity users, the top three picks from our ediscovery software ranking are Venio Systems, CloudNine and Logikcull. Pick Venio Systems if you want one quoted price that covers legal hold through production and do not want licences for add-on modules. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best eDiscovery Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Relativity.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Relativity

#11 of 12 in our ediscovery software ranking

  • Pricing: Committed data volume, pay as you go or 1 to 3 year terms; quoted
  • Established in: United States
  • Built for: Large legal teams and providers wanting an extensible platform with AI in the price
  • Not for: Small teams without a litigation-support specialist or a provider
01

Why buyers look past Relativity

  1. 01

Several needs are licensed outside the data commitment

Relativity's pricing page says its AI comes with the committed data volume, with no separate AI licences and no per-user fees. It then lists Data Breach Response, Translate, Relativity FOIA and Legal Hold as licensed separately from that commitment. No amounts are shown, so a team that needs holds or translation cannot total the cost from the page.

  2. 02

Terms are a one- or three-year commitment, or pay as you go

The page offers pay as you go or a one- or three-year commitment for savings, and the only way to see a figure is the Request Pricing button. A buyer comparing three vendors therefore waits for a quote before any comparison starts, and a short matter has to choose between the open rate and a commitment.

  3. 03

Where the data sits is not spelled out on the pages we read

The platform page calls the product cloud-based and names an Azure environment for Legal Hold, but we found no hosting provider or region list on the security or platform pages. FedRAMP Moderate is stated for Relativity aiR Government only. Server customers can start new matters until 31 December 2027 and get security patches but no new features, so on-premises routes are closing.

What each one does differently

Venio Systems

United States · On request

Venio Systems quotes cloud tiers by monthly data volume, on-premises by data ingested, and hybrid by custom quote, and says plainly that there are no per-GB metering or per-user fees. Legal hold, processing, early case assessment, review, AI-assisted review and production share one price. Migration and managed services are charged separately. Cloud environments go live within 48 hours of signature, on-premises in 4 to 6 weeks.

Switch from Relativity if you want one quoted price that covers legal hold through production and do not want licences for add-on modules.

Venio Systems, #1 of 12 in our ediscovery software ranking →

CloudNine

Not stated by the vendor · On request

CloudNine sells CloudNine Review as software-as-a-service and keeps LAW and Concordance as installed products behind the customer's firewall. Its site says an on-premise Review edition is slated for 2026. The pages read carry no price list, so cost arrives only after a demo, and no country of registration is stated.

Switch from Relativity if your data must stay on your own infrastructure and an installed product is acceptable.

Logikcull

United States · On request

Logikcull bills pay-as-you-go by gigabyte stored each month with a 10 GB minimum, no commitment, unlimited users, projects and downloads. A sample matter can be tried before a card is added. The annual subscription adds PII detection, Slack chat filtering, archiving and audio and video transcription. Reveal AI fact-finding is a paid add-on on both plans.

Switch from Relativity if matters come in small batches and you want to pay for storage month by month.

Logikcull comes 2 of 12 when ediscovery software products are ranked here →

Everlaw

United States · On request

Everlaw includes unlimited user licences, onboarding and standard data migration in its base table, so adding reviewers does not change the bill. Coding Suggestions, Deep Dive, machine translation and custom extractions run on credits, with single-document use of the first, third and fourth exempt. The company states SOC 2 Type 2, FedRAMP Moderate and GovRAMP Moderate. No figures are published.

Switch from Relativity if reviewer headcount swings from case to case and you can budget AI credits separately.

DISCO

United States · On request

DISCO charges the platform per gigabyte of processed data and says its Cecilia AI is unlimited at no additional charge. Auto Review, the generative first-pass reviewer, is billed per document and quotes up to 32,000 documents an hour. Legal hold is part of the per-GB rate with unlimited users and custodians. Services are self-service, task-based, matter-based or managed.

Switch from Relativity if a per-GB rate with AI Q&A, timelines and depositions inside it is easier to defend internally than a module list.

Reveal

United States · On request

Reveal advertises flexible pay-as-you-go or subscription pricing and unlimited users on every plan. The company also owns Logikcull, so a small matter can begin there and move up to the full platform with the same vendor. The pricing page shows no plan tiers or rates and no private deployment details, so ask for both in writing.

Switch from Relativity if you want one vendor from small matters to large ones and unlimited seats on every plan.

Our ediscovery software guide puts Reveal at 4 of 12; read why →

Casepoint

United States · On request

Casepoint states FedRAMP High, DOD IL5 and DOD IL6 authorisations and says only six SaaS companies worldwide hold IL6. Price follows the applications and use cases chosen, and the page says a product you do not use is not charged. The pricing page names no hosting location and no rates, only a contact option.

Switch from Relativity if you serve a US agency or contractor and the authorisation level decides the shortlist.

Casepoint holds rank 8 among 12 entries in our ediscovery software guide →

Nuix

Australia · On request

Nuix, an Australian software company, licenses by consumption of data volume. Its deployment page lists SaaS for Neo Discover only, plus private, public or hybrid cloud of your own, on-premise, a partner-managed service and an appliance. It describes itself as an investigative analytics provider, so the pitch leans to regulators and forensic bureaux.

Switch from Relativity if you need to place the platform in a cloud or data centre you pick, and investigations matter as much as review.

Where Nuix stands: place 7 of 12 in the ediscovery software ranking →

Lighthouse

United States · Published

Lighthouse is a services firm first: its rate card prices ingestion and export per GB, hosting per GB per month, Relativity users per month and forensic work per hour. The page carries a 2023 heading, hosting is not prorated and notice to stop must arrive before the first of the month. It also lists itself as a Relativity partner, which makes it a route to keep Relativity but change who runs it.

Switch from Relativity if you want people to run the matters and a written rate card to compare against your current invoice.

Open the Lighthouse profile, 10th of 12 in the ediscovery software guide →

Exterro

United States · On request

Exterro bundles eDiscovery with digital forensics, data governance, subpoena management and FTK, and lists data connectors to 190+ enterprise systems. Zapproved's own site says Exterro acquired it. The pages we read show no prices, and modules are separate products, so ask exactly which are in a quote.

Switch from Relativity if forensics, governance and discovery would otherwise come from three vendors.

Microsoft Purview eDiscovery

United States · See profile

Microsoft Purview eDiscovery searches, holds and exports content in Exchange Online, Teams, Microsoft 365 Groups, OneDrive, SharePoint and Viva Engage. Review sets, analytics, tagging and OCR are premium features, requiring an E5 or related add-on. External data can be imported to review sets. Coverage ends where Microsoft 365 ends.

Switch from Relativity if most of your matters sit in Microsoft 365 and the E5 licence is already in the budget.

Which alternative for which situation

  1. 01

You want one price with no per-GB or per-user fees

Venio Systems: Its pricing page says there is no per-GB metering, per-user, per-document or per-token AI fee, and quotes cloud, on-premises or hybrid.

  2. 02

You want the software installed behind your own firewall

CloudNine: LAW and Concordance run on-premise, and CloudNine Review is offered as SaaS; ask for a quote, as the pages show no prices.

  3. 03

You handle small matters and want no commitment

Logikcull: Pay as you go by stored gigabyte with a 10 GB minimum, unlimited users, and a sample matter before a card is added.

  4. 04

You work for a US agency or contractor

Casepoint: It states FedRAMP High, DOD IL5 and IL6 authorisations and charges only for the applications you use.

  5. 05

Most of your data already sits in Microsoft 365

Microsoft Purview eDiscovery: It searches, holds and exports Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint content, with review sets and analytics on E5.

04

When Relativity is still the right choice

Relativity remains the safer choice when the work spans legal hold through production on one platform, with a processing rate of 2.5+ TB per day on average, first-pass AI review with citations and rationale, and open APIs and an App Hub at no extra licence cost. Its security page states ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and 27018, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA, and support runs 24/7. If your law firm, service provider or opposing counsel already works in Relativity, moving away adds friction for them as well.

05

What moving off Relativity involves

  1. 01

Inventory what is licensed outside the commitment

List whether you use Legal Hold, Translate, FOIA or Data Breach Response. Each needs a home in the new quote, and ask every vendor to price them next to the data volume rather than later.

  2. 02

Ask for exports of workspaces, tags and productions

Request load files, coding history and production sets for open matters before the term ends, and agree who holds the archive afterwards. Check whether the new vendor charges for migration, since Venio quotes it separately and Everlaw lists standard migration in its base table.

  3. 03

Run one live matter in parallel

Choose a matter with a known outcome, load it into the shortlisted platform and compare search results and review speed before moving the rest. Leave the Relativity term running until that check is done.

Questions about replacing Relativity

7 answers
What is the best alternative to Relativity for ediscovery?

Venio Systems ranks first in our list. It quotes one price for legal hold, processing, early case assessment, review, AI-assisted review and production, with no per-GB metering or per-user fees stated, and offers cloud, on-premises or hybrid.

CloudNine and Logikcull follow, each for a different reason.

Which Relativity alternative can run on our own servers?

Venio Systems quotes on-premises by data ingested and says on-premises deployments take 4 to 6 weeks. CloudNine keeps LAW and Concordance as on-premise products, and Nuix lists on-premise, private cloud and an appliance. Relativity's Server policy allows new matters there until 31 December 2027.

Is there a cheaper way to run a small matter than a committed data volume?

Logikcull bills pay as you go by stored gigabyte with a 10 GB minimum and no commitment, and offers a sample matter without a card. Amounts are quoted, so ask for the per-GB rate. Reveal also lists pay-as-you-go plans, with unlimited users.

Do any alternatives include AI review in the price?

DISCO includes Cecilia AI in its per-GB rate but charges Auto Review per document. Venio says it has no per-document or per-token AI fees.

Everlaw runs several AI features on credits. Relativity states AI comes with the committed data volume, so compare what each quote counts.

Which alternative suits government or defence work?

Casepoint states FedRAMP High, DOD IL5 and IL6 authorisations. Everlaw states FedRAMP Moderate and GovRAMP Moderate. Relativity's FedRAMP Moderate applies to Relativity aiR Government. Check which authorisation your contract demands and ask each vendor for the current letter.

Can Microsoft Purview replace Relativity?

Only for content in Microsoft 365. Purview eDiscovery covers Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Microsoft 365 Groups and Viva Engage, and its review sets, analytics and OCR need an E5 or related add-on.

External data can be imported, but there is no connector story beyond that on the page we read.

Is there a European alternative to Relativity?

None of the eleven tools in our list gives a European country. Nine are in the United States, Nuix is Australian, and CloudNine states no country. For data in the EU, ask each vendor for hosting regions and the contract entity in writing.
