Rollbar alternatives: 11 error tracking tools compared

Teams look for a Rollbar alternative when the bill follows occurrences they cannot predict, when the pricing page shows volume steps but no amounts, or when data held in an Iowa data centre does not suit a European customer contract. Others find that the feature set they pay for, such as replays and credits, is more than a plain bug inbox needs. The options below range from Sentry-compatible servers you can host yourself to request-based monitors and mobile-session tools.

Short answer: The first three alternatives to Rollbar in our error tracking software ranking are Bugsink, GlitchTip and AppSignal. Our rule for order: vendors outside the big brands go first, and the largest names are not placed in the top three. Choose Bugsink if you want a very small Dutch vendor and EU-held data without rewriting your instrumentation. These 11 products are all in Best Error Tracking Software in 2026; the notes say how each one compares with Rollbar.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Rollbar

#7 of 13 in our error tracking software ranking

  • Pricing: Free plan; Essentials and Advanced by occurrence volume; Enterprise by contact; 14-day trial
  • Established in: Not stated by the vendor
  • Built for: Teams wanting unlimited users and projects with limits counted in occurrences
  • Not for: Buyers needing the owner's country stated on its own site
01

Why buyers look past Rollbar

  1. 01

Cost follows occurrences, with credits on top

Rollbar counts occurrences per month: the free plan holds 5,000, and Essentials and Advanced range from 10K to 50M, shown in one comparison table. Replays and credits are metered separately. Overage can stop at the limit, bill on demand at plan rate, or run to a dollar budget. A noisy release can therefore move the invoice unless you set one of those limits first.

  2. 02

The paid amounts sit behind a selector

The pricing page lists Free at zero and Enterprise as custom, but the Essentials and Advanced amounts appeared only after choosing a volume, and annual billing is described as two months free. Teams that want to compare vendors in a spreadsheet must run the selector for each tier. Retention also steps up by plan: 30 days free, 90 on Essentials, 180 on Advanced.

  3. 03

Hosting is in Iowa on Google Cloud

The security page says primary data is stored and encrypted in the Iowa region, on Google Cloud Platform. The page we read named no EU data region and no subprocessor list. European organisations that must pin personal data inside the EU, or that prefer a vendor based there, will want to ask Rollbar directly or compare the hosted and self-run options below.

What each one does differently

Bugsink

Netherlands · Published

Bugsink B.V. is a one-founder company in Utrecht, and its hosted service keeps events in the EU. Existing Sentry SDKs send to it once the DSN is changed. The managed plans scale by monthly event count, and the same software installs with Docker without any per-event cost. The free evaluation plan stops at 15,000 events and one user.

Switch from Rollbar if you want a very small Dutch vendor and EU-held data without rewriting your instrumentation.

GlitchTip

Not stated by the vendor · Published

GlitchTip receives data from Sentry's client SDKs, so a move is mostly an address change. The backend carries an MIT licence and runs with Docker, or the vendor hosts it in the US or in Germany. The free plan holds 1,000 events a month, paid tiers rise to three million, and past the limit it throttles and blocks at double.

Switch from Rollbar if you want to choose German hosting or run an open source backend yourself.

AppSignal

Netherlands · Published

AppSignal is Dutch and meters requests handled instead of errors captured, which means a burst of exceptions after a bad deploy does not raise the invoice. Error tracking is one module inside an application monitor. The free plan covers 30K requests with 5 days of retention, and a 30-day trial is listed. HIPAA support is a paid add-on.

Switch from Rollbar if a sudden error flood should not change what you pay, and euro billing helps.

Honeybadger

United States · Published

Honeybadger is self-funded and pairs error tracking with uptime checks, cron and heartbeat monitoring, logging and a status page under one subscription. The developer plan allows one user, 5,000 errors and 15 days of retention. Team adds unlimited users and 90 days, and 180 days of retention waits on Business.

Switch from Rollbar if you want cron and uptime monitors on the same bill as your exceptions.

Raygun

New Zealand · Published

Raygun, from New Zealand, sells Basic, Team and Business plans priced per block of errors, with unlimited apps and members on every plan. Dashboards and third-party integrations begin at Team, SAML sign-on at Business, and the 14-day trial needs no card. Server and browser monitoring are billed as separate products.

Switch from Rollbar if you prefer a per-block error price and want every colleague added without a seat charge.

Airbrake

United States · Published

Airbrake grew out of the 2008 Rails catcher Hoptoad and still prices by monthly error quota, with entry plans from 25,000 errors. The lowest plan has one user and one team. Overage bills on demand unless you set a cap, and starting a trial needs a valid email and a credit card. It lists SOC 2 Type II.

Switch from Rollbar if you want a plain quota with a hard cap and long Rails and Ruby history.

Airbrake, #4 of 13 in our error tracking software ranking →

Better Stack

United States · Published

Better Stack takes data from Sentry SDKs and charges a listed rate per exception, with 100,000 included and 90 days of storage. On-call schedules and status pages sit in the same account. Its savings comparison against Sentry and Datadog rests on the vendor's own assumptions about data location and rates, so run your own numbers.

Switch from Rollbar if you also need on-call rotations and a status page next to error tracking.

Better Stack, #8 of 13 in our error tracking software ranking →

Bugfender

Germany · Published

Bugfender, from Germany, gathers device logs even when nothing crashes, so support staff can replay what one customer did. Retention is 24 hours on the free plan, 7 days on Team and 30 days on Pro. Crash reporting starts at Team, and on-premises deployment, SAML and bank transfer belong to Premium.

Switch from Rollbar if your pain is reconstructing single-customer sessions on mobile, not grouping server exceptions.

Bugsnag

United States · Published

Bugsnag belongs to SmartBear, whose global headquarters the contact page places in Somerville, Massachusetts. The free plan allows one user and 7.5K events monthly. Stability benchmarks and error prioritisation start at Select, automatic assignment at Preferred, and on-premises deployment sits on Enterprise.

Switch from Rollbar if you track release stability scores and want an on-premises option under a larger vendor.

Sentry

United States · Published

Sentry adds tracing, session replay, profiling, cron and uptime checks to errors, and other tools copy its SDK protocol. The developer plan is limited to one user, Team adds unlimited users, and SAML and SCIM belong to Business. The Seer AI debugger is a separate subscription, and the self-hosted code is labelled fair-source.

Switch from Rollbar if you want the widest SDK range and tracing beside errors, and accept a US company.

Embrace

United States · Published

Embrace, a US company, measures sessions instead of errors and ties each crash to the user journey around it. The free tier allows 5 users and 3 days of events up to 1 million sessions a year. Pro raises that to 10 users and 14 days, billed per 1,000 sessions with a minimum monthly spend.

Switch from Rollbar if you ship mobile or web apps and want crashes read against the session around them.

Which alternative for which situation

  1. 01

You need the data held inside the EU

Bugsink: Hosted events stay in the EU, and the same software installs with Docker with no per-event cost.

  2. 02

You want German hosting or an open source backend

GlitchTip: The backend is MIT licensed, and the vendor hosts in the US or Germany from a free 1,000-event plan.

  3. 03

You want a flood of errors not to change the bill

AppSignal: It meters requests handled, not errors, with a free plan of 30K requests and a 30-day trial.

  4. 04

You want cron and uptime checks beside exceptions

Honeybadger: One subscription covers errors, uptime, cron and heartbeat monitors and a status page; Team adds unlimited users.

  5. 05

You want every colleague added without a seat charge

Raygun: Unlimited apps and members come on every plan, priced per block of errors, with a 14-day trial and no card.

04

When Rollbar is still the right choice

Rollbar stays sensible when you want unlimited users and unlimited projects on every plan, including the free one, and your volume is steady enough to size a plan. The security page lists ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type I and II, HIPAA with a signed BAA at no extra cost, and SAML sign-on on designated plans. For a US-based team with those compliance needs, leaving may cost more than it saves.

05

What moving off Rollbar involves

  1. 01

    Rewriting the SDK calls

Rollbar uses its own notifier libraries and access tokens, not the Sentry protocol. Moving to a Sentry-compatible server such as Bugsink or GlitchTip means replacing the notifier in each service and then changing the DSN. Run both in parallel for a release so grouping and alert rules can be compared before the old project is switched off.

  2. 02

    History and rules stay behind

Occurrence history, item assignments and Rollbar Analyze queries do not travel with you, and retention is 30 to 180 days anyway. Export what you need for audits, note your alert rules and integrations, and rebuild them in the new tool. Check that the destination's retention matches the oldest issue you still need to reopen.

Questions about replacing Rollbar

6 answers
What does Rollbar cost?

Free is zero for 5,000 occurrences and 1,000 replays a month with 30 days of retention.

Essentials and Advanced are priced by volume inside a selector, with annual billing described as two months free, and Enterprise is custom. We could not read fixed paid amounts as plain text, so check the live selector.

Is there a free Rollbar alternative?

Several offer free tiers: GlitchTip 1,000 events a month, Bugsink a 15,000-event evaluation plan, AppSignal 30K requests, and Honeybadger a developer plan of 5,000 errors. Bugsnag and Sentry give one user free. Bugsink and GlitchTip also install with Docker without a per-event charge.

Which alternatives work with Sentry SDKs?

GlitchTip, Bugsink and Better Stack all state that they accept data from Sentry's client SDKs. That lets a team that already instruments with Sentry libraries switch the address instead of rewriting code, though Rollbar users start from Rollbar's own notifiers.

Where does Rollbar keep my data?

The security page says primary data is stored in the Iowa region on Google Cloud Platform. It does not mention an EU region. Bugsink keeps hosted data in the EU and GlitchTip offers hosting in Germany, and either can be run on your own servers.

Does Rollbar charge per user?

No. The pricing page lists unlimited users and unlimited projects on all plans. Raygun also offers unlimited members, while Honeybadger needs Team for unlimited users and Sentry's developer plan allows one.

What happens when I exceed my plan?

Rollbar lets you choose: stop at the limit, which is the default, bill on-demand events at the plan rate, or set an overage budget with a dollar cap. Airbrake and GlitchTip have comparable caps, so compare the default before a traffic spike.
