NordPass alternatives: 11 password managers compared

People look for NordPass alternatives when they want a password manager they can host or audit themselves, one tied to a different company group, one with a bigger set of business controls, or one with a published free tier that suits a larger team. They move to open-source managers, to the other well-known commercial vaults, or to enterprise credential platforms.

Short answer: The closest replacements for NordPass in our password manager ranking are Bitwarden, 1Password and Proton Pass. Choose Bitwarden if you want a vault whose server code can be audited and that you can host yourself. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Password Manager for Business in 2026, and each says where it differs from NordPass.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

NordPass

#8 of 12 in our password manager ranking

  • Pricing: Free personal plan for one user; business plans per user per month, published; Teams sold as a 10-user pack
  • Established in: Lithuania
  • Built for: A small team that wants something clean and cheap
  • Not for: A company needing secrets management for engineers
01

Why buyers look past NordPass

  1. 01

One product inside a larger security group

NordPass is one of the products Nord Security lists alongside NordVPN, NordLayer, NordLocker and NordStellar. For a company that already buys from that group, a single vendor relationship is a convenience. Other buyers prefer a password manager from a vendor that does only credentials, or one whose server software they can inspect or run themselves, and they compare accordingly.

  2. 02

Business needs move beyond a shared vault

Nord Security describes NordPass business as a way to monitor and manage shared credentials and to help with compliance. Companies that need single sign-on provisioning, role-based administration, secrets management for developers or privileged access control are looking at products that sell those as separate, named capabilities, and they compare plans on that basis.

  3. 03

    Open source and self-hosting

We could not retrieve NordPass's own pages for this review, so we state nothing about its licence or hosting options beyond what Nord Security publishes. Buyers who require published server code or an on-premises deployment have clear choices among the tools below, such as Bitwarden and Psono, whose own sites describe both.

What each one does differently

Bitwarden

United States · Free personal tier; business plans per user per month, published

Bitwarden's server code is published on GitHub under AGPL-3.0, and its business plans list self-hosting on-premises or in a private cloud. It has individual, family (six users), teams and enterprise plans, SSO integration and a Secrets Manager for developers. A free 2FA authenticator is included. The interface is plainer than most commercial vaults.

Switch from NordPass if you want a vault whose server code can be audited and that you can host yourself.

Bitwarden, #1 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

1Password

Canada · Per user per month, published; flat-price Teams Starter Pack for up to 10; 14-day trial

1Password sells personal, business and enterprise products, and its enterprise offer extends to SaaS management, privileged access and device trust as separate products, quoted on request. The company lists a Toronto, Canada address. It is a broader identity platform than a plain password vault.

Switch from NordPass if you want one vendor for passwords, privileged access and device trust.

1Password, #7 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

Proton Pass

Switzerland · Free tier; paid per user per month, published

Proton Pass has a free plan with unlimited logins, notes, cards and devices. Pass Plus is shown at $2.99 a month on a yearly term (billed $35.88 every 12 months) and adds hide-my-email aliases and a built-in 2FA authenticator, with a Family plan for six. Proton AG is Swiss and supervised by the non-profit Proton Foundation.

Switch from NordPass if you want a generous free tier, email aliases and a Swiss operator.

Proton Pass, #2 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

Dashlane

United States · Per user per month, published

Dashlane sells its business product as Omnix Password Management, priced per user per month billed annually with a 14-day trial, and offers a separate Credential Protection product that detects credential risk outside SSO. The two-product split may be more than a small team needs.

Switch from NordPass if you want credential risk detection next to password management.

Dashlane, #3 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

Keeper

United States · Per user per month, published; add-ons extra

Keeper describes a zero-knowledge, zero-trust architecture. Business Starter covers 5 to 10 users with an admin console, Business adds shared team folders and delegated administration, and Enterprise adds SCIM, AD/LDAP and SSO. Every business user also gets a free Keeper Family Plan for up to 5 family members. Add-ons such as privileged access are sold separately.

Switch from NordPass if you want tiered business plans with SSO and provisioning at the top tier.

Keeper, #9 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

LastPass

United States · Free plan for one user on one device type; business plans per user per month, published

LastPass has a free plan limited to one device type and basic features, and offers 30-day trials of its Premium and Families plans plus a Business trial. It lists dark web monitoring, passkeys and a security dashboard.

Switch from NordPass if you want to trial personal and business plans before paying.

LastPass, #10 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

Enpass

India · One-off licence or per month, published

Enpass keeps the vault in your own cloud (iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box or similar) and not on Enpass's servers. The Free plan allows up to 25 items in one vault, and Premium, Family (six people) and a lifetime option are sold. Business vaults can sit in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. There is no vendor-hosted vault to rely on.

Switch from NordPass if you want the encrypted vault in a cloud account you already control.

Enpass, #6 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

Psono

Germany · Free self-hosted community edition; hosted plans published

Psono is an open-source password manager for companies, run either self-hosted or as SaaS, with vault data encrypted on the client. Its site says all business features are free for up to 10 users. It is aimed at technical teams that will run a server, and it has little of the consumer polish of the commercial vaults.

Switch from NordPass if an IT team wants a self-hosted, open-source company vault.

Psono, #5 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

RoboForm

United States · Free tier; business plans per user per year, published

RoboForm centres on form filling and password capture, and now lists passwordless unlock with a passkey and 2FA with passkeys, trusted devices and hardware security keys. We could not retrieve its pricing page, so state no price here. Check the current plans on roboform.com.

Switch from NordPass if automatic form filling matters as much as password storage.

RoboForm, #4 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

Zoho Vault

India · Free for personal use; paid per user per month, published, low

Zoho Vault has a free-forever plan and Standard, Professional and Enterprise tiers with a 15-day trial. Standard adds secure sharing with team members and one-time sharing with third parties, Professional adds user groups, folder sharing and breach alerts, Enterprise adds Active Directory integration and single sign-on. It integrates with other Zoho applications.

Switch from NordPass if your company already runs on Zoho and wants a low-cost shared vault.

Zoho Vault, #11 of 12 in our password manager ranking →

Idira Workforce Password Management (formerly CyberArk)

United States · Quoted per organisation; part of a wider platform

Idira Workforce Password Management, formerly CyberArk, is now presented under Palo Alto Networks. It stores credentials in a centralised vault with access controls, password rotation and complexity enforcement, aimed at enterprises. It is sold through a sales conversation, not a self-service pricing page, and is more than a small team needs.

Switch from NordPass if you run an enterprise identity security programme and want password management inside it.

When NordPass is still the right choice

NordPass is a reasonable choice if your organisation already buys from Nord Security and wants password management from the same vendor relationship, with a shared vault and credential monitoring. Moving has a cost in re-onboarding every user and re-sharing every vault, so unless you need self-hosting, a particular jurisdiction or enterprise privileged access, the switch is unlikely to pay back.

05

What moving off NordPass involves

  1. 01

Export, then check what did not come across

Every manager lets you export the vault, but exports usually drop attachments, shared folder structure, sharing permissions and password history. Compare item counts after import, and rebuild shared folders and group access deliberately instead of trusting the import to preserve them. An unencrypted export file is the most sensitive document in the migration, so delete it as soon as the import is verified.

  2. 02

Plan the cut-over and rotate what matters

Run both tools side by side until users have logged in to the new one and installed the browser extension. Rotate administrator, infrastructure and shared service-account credentials once the move is complete, since they sat in an export file during the process. Remove the old vault's access for departed staff, and turn off the old autofill extension to stop prompts from the two tools colliding.

Questions about replacing NordPass

5 answers
Who makes NordPass?

Nord Security lists NordPass among its products next to NordVPN, NordLayer, NordLocker and NordStellar on nordsecurity.com. We could not open nordpass.com itself during this review, so we do not state a registered country beyond what our category data holds (Lithuania).

Which alternatives can I host myself?

Bitwarden lists self-hosting on-premises or in a private cloud for its business plans, with server code under AGPL-3.0 on GitHub.

Psono is an open-source manager that can be self-hosted or used as SaaS. Enpass keeps the vault in a cloud account you choose rather than on its own servers.

Is there a free alternative to NordPass?

Several. Bitwarden and Proton Pass have free personal plans, Proton Pass with unlimited logins and devices.

Enpass is free up to 25 items, LastPass's free plan is limited to one device type, Zoho Vault lists a free-forever plan and Psono says all business features are free up to 10 users.

Which alternative suits a large company?

Keeper's Enterprise tier lists SCIM, AD/LDAP and SSO/SAML, 1Password sells an enterprise password manager and related access products on request, Bitwarden has Enterprise and Secrets Manager plans, and Idira Workforce Password Management (formerly CyberArk) is built for enterprise identity programmes.

Has CyberArk's password product changed owner or name?

CyberArk's workforce password product now appears on cyberark.com as Idira Workforce Password Management, presented with Palo Alto Networks branding and a Palo Alto Networks specialist contact form. Confirm the current ownership and contract terms with the vendor before you buy.
