Zoho Creator vs Budibase
These two sit at opposite ends of the low-code shelf. Zoho Creator is a hosted application builder from an Indian vendor, with a free edition for one app, three paid tiers and a 15-day trial, and it earns its place mostly when a company already runs other Zoho products. Budibase, registered in Northern Ireland, can be run on your own server for nothing under its Community plan, while its hosted Cloud plan starts at $299 a month. One path trades hosting effort for a lower bill, the other trades a suite commitment for convenience.
Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.
you already use other Zoho products and want one login across them. You also want a free edition to try an app before you pay, and you accept scripting that exists only inside Zoho.
you want internal tools over a database you run yourself and have someone to handle upgrades and backups. You also want the choice between a free self-hosted install and a managed Cloud plan.

Where they differ
Zoho Creator 1 · Budibase 4 · open 1- 01
Starting for nothing: one app versus a whole server
Zoho Creator has a free edition aimed at individuals or small teams, and it covers one custom app. Budibase Community is free forever on self-hosted deployment with unlimited users, apps, agents, automations and requests, plus standard SSO. For a single small app, either is free. For many apps and many users, Budibase removes the count entirely, though only if you supply the server it runs on.

What a hosted plan costs once you pay
Zoho Creator sells Standard, Professional and Enterprise per user per month, billed monthly or yearly, where yearly is said to save over 30%. Its pricing text carries no amounts. Budibase Cloud starts at $299 a month with 2 creators and 20 end users, then adds creators at $50 and end users at $5 a month on annual billing. Budibase is the one with a number we can quote.
Edge: Budibase
- 03
Trial length and what happens afterwards
Zoho gives a 15-day trial with full subscription features and no credit card, defaulting new sign-ups to the Professional trial, after which the account moves to the free plan. Budibase Cloud has a free trial of 14 days, and no free Cloud plan is listed, so the choice after the trial is paying or self-hosting. Zoho leaves a softer landing for someone who is still deciding.

Ceilings you can hit: connectors, schedules and actions
Zoho Creator limits data sources to 5, 15 and 30 across its tiers, custom connectors to 5, 10 and 20, and custom schedules to 90, 300 and 600 per user per month. Budibase Cloud includes 250K monthly actions and 50K AI credits, and the allowances are hard limits, since the page says overage billing is not used. Both have ceilings; Zoho's are itemised more finely, Budibase's simply stop you.
Depends on the buyer
- 05
Who runs it: managed by the vendor or by you
On Budibase Cloud the company manages hosting, updates and maintenance, while self-hosting on your own infrastructure is the Community plan, and Enterprise offers flexible deployment including air-gapped. Zoho's pages describe a hosted product and name no data-centre location. If keeping data inside your own network is a requirement, Budibase has the clearer answer on its pricing page.

Who stands behind the product
Zoho trademarks are held by Zoho Corporation Private Limited, and our site entry records India as the country. The Creator terms point to a separate contracting-entities page, and no parent company or data-centre location appears there. Budibase's terms define the company as Budibase Limited, incorporated in Northern Ireland with a registered office in Belfast. Budibase is the more specific of the two on paper.
Edge: Budibase
When neither fits
If you want a polished customer-facing product or a large enterprise platform, neither is the natural pick. Appsmith is a self-hostable alternative for internal tools, and Retool is worth a look for developer-led internal apps.
Zoho Creator or Budibase: questions
3 answersCan I run Zoho Creator on my own server like Budibase?
Zoho's pages describe a hosted product and mention no self-hosted option. Budibase Community is the self-hosted route, free, with unlimited users and apps. If running it yourself matters, that points to Budibase.
What happens to my Zoho Creator account when the trial ends?
The trial lasts 15 days with full features and no card needed. New sign-ups get the Professional trial by default and move to the free plan afterwards. The free edition covers one custom app.
Does Budibase charge extra if my team goes over its monthly actions?
No overage is billed, because the page says overage billing is not used. The monthly action allowance, 250K on the Cloud plan, is a hard limit instead. You would need to wait for the next period or move up a plan.
