RudderStack vs Snowplow

Both are built for engineering teams that want customer events in their own warehouse, not a marketer's audience tool. RudderStack publishes its prices and has a free tier, while Snowplow gives no numbers and asks you to request a quote after a trial. RudderStack is a United States company; Snowplow is listed in the United Kingdom.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

  1. 01

What the pricing page tells you

RudderStack shows a free plan at USD 0, Growth at USD 265 per month and a contact-sales Enterprise tier. Snowplow's page shows no numbers at all, only a 14-day trial and a 'Get a quote' route. If you must budget before a sales call, only RudderStack lets you.

    Edge: RudderStack

  2. 02

    Starting without a contract

RudderStack's free plan includes 250K events per month and 10 team members, and Growth has a 30-day trial. Snowplow offers a 14-day trial of the full product with no credit card. Snowplow's trial is shorter, and nothing on its page describes a plan you can stay on for free.

    Edge: RudderStack

  3. 03

    Event schemas and streaming

Snowplow states that teams define custom events with their own validated schemas, and that behavioural data streams continuously instead of in batch windows. The RudderStack pages we read mention a tracking plan (one on the free plan) but make no equivalent streaming claim. For strict event definitions, Snowplow's own wording is stronger.

    Edge: Snowplow

  4. 04

    Self-hosting terms

Snowplow's self-managed Self-Hosted Pipeline carries SLULA 1.1 licence terms, so you should read them before running it in production. Our RudderStack pack lists Enterprise with VPC deployment and a sync every 5 minutes, but the self-hosted licence is not on the pages we read. Neither is simple to verify from pricing pages alone.

    Depends on the buyer

03

When neither fits

If you want a packaged tool for marketers, neither fits, since both expect engineers to own the data model. Hightouch and Tealium are worth a look in our customer data platform category.
