Cliniko vs Jane

Cliniko and Jane are both clinic systems for allied health, not therapy software only, and both publish their prices. Cliniko charges by practitioner band in US dollars and puts every feature in every plan. Jane charges in Canadian dollars on three plans, with add-ons such as insurance billing and AI Scribe costing extra. The sharpest split is insurance: Jane lists Canadian payers for direct billing, while the Cliniko pages we read do not list claim filing at all. Jane's lowest tier caps appointments at twenty a month, while the Cliniko pages show no cap.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

  1. 01

    Six bands against three plans

Cliniko lists six monthly bands in US dollars: $45 for 1 practitioner, $95 for 2 to 5, $145 for 6 to 8, $195 for 9 to 12, $295 for 13 to 25 and $395 for 26 to 200. Jane lists Balance at CAD 59, Practice at CAD 79 and Thrive at CAD 99 per month, with Practice and Thrive priced per full-time and part-time practitioner. Cliniko's bands favour larger groups, and Jane's per-head plans favour small clinics. Compare against headcount.

What is left out of the base price

Every Cliniko subscription includes all features, free support and unlimited admin users, and SMS is bought as credits at 10 cents per message. Jane's base plans include unlimited admins and locations, online booking, charting templates, intake forms, treatment plans and invoicing, but AI Scribe, group telehealth, insurance billing and payroll are separate monthly charges. Cliniko's total is easier to forecast from the pages we read. Jane's AI Scribe is CAD 15 a month per opted-in practitioner, with 5 notes to try.

    Edge: Cliniko

  3. 03

Insurance claims and where payers sit

Jane lists integrated direct insurance billing for TELUS eClaims, Teleplan and Pacific Blue Cross, at CAD 20 a month plus per-practitioner amounts. Those are Canadian payers, so a US therapist gets little from it. The Cliniko features page lists booking, notes, finance, reporting, SMS, data import and export and an API, but does not list insurance claim filing. For Canadian direct billing, Only Jane names it between these two. Check your own payer list first, since it decides more.

    Edge: Jane

  4. 04

    The cheapest way in

Jane's entry plan, Balance, costs CAD 59 a month but allows a single practitioner and only 20 appointments a month. Cliniko's one-practitioner band costs $45 a month with all features and no stated appointment cap, and it offers a 30-day trial with no payment details needed. Currencies differ, so compare at the exchange rate of the day. The Jane pages we read show no trial length. Neither vendor lists a free plan, so Cliniko's trial is the only no-cost way in.

    Edge: Cliniko

  5. 05

    Data location and company base

Cliniko says accounts created in Australia, the UK or Canada keep their data in that country, while accounts elsewhere are housed on servers in Australia. Its country of operation is Australia. Jane says its services are provided from its offices in Vancouver, Canada, with no hosting statement on those pages. A UK or Canadian clinic with data-residency concerns has a written answer from Cliniko only. A clinic in Vancouver and one in Sydney would read these answers very differently.

    Edge: Cliniko

  6. 06

Which clinic each page is written for

Cliniko calls itself a practice management system for clinics and allied health practitioners, and its notes are customisable. Jane calls itself practice management software and an EMR for health and wellness clinics, with scheduling, charting, billing, payments and patient communication. Both describe clinics, not solo therapists alone, and neither page we read targets specialty physician practices. The choice comes down to region and billing, not to a difference in audience. The Jane page is silent on hosting, so residency needs a direct reply.

When neither fits

If you need video sessions and client homework built in, or a tool made only for counsellors, neither page we read leads with that. Try SimplePractice or Sessions Health from our therapy list instead.

Cliniko or Jane: questions

3 answers
Does Jane's Balance plan suit a part-time therapist seeing few clients?

Only if twenty appointments a month is enough, because that is the cap on the single-practitioner plan. It costs CAD 59 a month. Practice at CAD 79 removes that limit for each practitioner counted.

Where is my data stored if I sign up for Cliniko from Ireland?

The security page says accounts based outside Australia, the UK and Canada are housed on servers in Australia. Only accounts based in those three countries keep data in country. Ireland would therefore sit on Australian servers.

Do text reminders cost extra on both?

On Cliniko, yes, at 10 cents per SMS credit. Jane's pricing page we read does not list a text message fee, though it lists charged add-ons. Check the current page before you count reminders into a budget.
