CapCut vs Clipchamp

Both offer a free tier, but they sit in different places. CapCut is a standalone product on desktop, web, mobile and tablet whose Pro price varies by region and device. Clipchamp is a browser editor now inside Microsoft, free up to 1080p without a watermark, with premium reached only through Microsoft 365 or Copilot licences.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

  1. 01

What the free tier gives you

CapCut's free tier needs no credit card and covers cutting, trimming, filters and effects, though premium templates, fonts and music are limited. Clipchamp's free plan on a personal Microsoft account exports up to 1080p without watermarks. Both are usable for free; Clipchamp states its export resolution more plainly.

    Knowing the paid price

CapCut says Pro pricing varies by region, device and promotions, shown inside the app; one of its pages quotes 19.99 monthly and 179.99 yearly, varying by region. Clipchamp premium comes through Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, and the pricing page does not sell it alone. Neither gives a single fixed figure you can hand to finance, but CapCut at least publishes a range.

  3. 03

    Where you can edit

CapCut lists desktop, web, mobile and tablet versions. Clipchamp is described as browser-based, with work and school plans included in some Microsoft 365 licences. For a clip started on a phone and finished at a desk, CapCut covers more surfaces.

  4. 04

    Premium extras

CapCut Pro adds advanced AI, premium templates and about 1TB of cloud storage, and a team tier is quoted at about 24.99. Clipchamp premium adds 4K export, premium stock, filters and a brand kit for a single brand. Clipchamp's brand kit covers only one brand, while CapCut's storage figure is the larger stated asset.

    Depends on the buyer

  5. 05

    Ownership and exit

CapCut is operated by Bytedance Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, under Singapore law by default. Clipchamp was founded in Brisbane in 2014 and joined Microsoft in September 2021. Leaving Microsoft means leaving Clipchamp premium, which ties the tool to the suite.

When neither fits

If you want a perpetual licence or an editor with no account at a large platform, neither fits. Shotcut is free and open source, and Kdenlive does not tie you to a subscription.
