TinyPNG vs ShortPixel

TinyPNG is a drag-and-drop compressor with a developer API, and its API gives 500 free compressions each month without a payment method. ShortPixel is built around WordPress plugins that scale pictures to their container and serve them from a global CDN, with a one-time payment option beside the yearly subscription. The deciding gap is information: the TinyPNG pages we read name Web Pro and Web Ultra without prices, while ShortPixel shows no prices or free-plan limits either. Pick on workflow first, then confirm the real cost on the vendor's checkout.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

  1. 01

Tinify B.V. against ID Scout SRL

TinyPNG's terms say the service is owned and operated by Tinify B.V., governed by Dutch law with disputes heard in Amsterdam, and the address is given in Hoevelaken. The site now carries the Tinify name and a 2026 copyright line while keeping the tinypng.com domain. ShortPixel is a trademark of ID Scout SRL and its footer says it is made in Bucharest, Romania, although no registered address appears on the pages read. Each names an entity, so this round is level.

  2. 02

    The 500-compression monthly allowance

TinyPNG's developer page promises 500 free compressions every month and asks for no payment method, which lets a small project run an API integration for nothing before any commitment. ShortPixel lists a free plan and a Free Sign Up link, yet the free plan limits are not described in that text, and no trial is mentioned. A buyer who needs a number to plan around gets one from TinyPNG, and has to ask ShortPixel directly.

  3. 03

Subscription, one-time payment or Web Pro

ShortPixel's pricing page sets an Unlimited monthly subscription billed yearly, with a banner reading 2 Months Free, next to a one-time payment option, which suits owners who dislike renewals. TinyPNG names two paid web subscriptions, Web Pro for occasional or bulk compression and Web Ultra for unlimited use plus conversion, and renewal is optional but currently limited to credit cards. Neither shows a figure in the text we read. The one-time option gives ShortPixel the wider choice.

  4. 04

Free web tool caps against a 100MB ceiling

TinyPNG's free web tool compresses up to 20 images at a time, each at most 5 MB, and caps free conversion at 3 images. That suits a designer shrinking a folder of banners, but a camera original will not fit. ShortPixel's product page says it supports images up to 100MB. The two figures describe different things, a free-tier cap against a tool ceiling, yet for large files ShortPixel is the only one with a stated headroom.

  5. 05

    Plugins, Figma, Make and WP-CLI

TinyPNG lists official WordPress and Figma plugins, Make and Zapier integrations (Zapier marked beta) and client libraries for Ruby, PHP, Node.js, Python, Java and .NET. ShortPixel describes two WordPress plugins, Image Optimizer and Adaptive Images, WP-CLI for bulk work, a Cloudflare token for sync, and compatibility with WP Offload Media, WPML, NextGEN and Modula. TinyPNG reaches more kinds of workflow, while ShortPixel goes deeper inside WordPress, and the pages do not describe a URL transformation API for ShortPixel.

  6. 06

Where each service delivers the files

TinyPNG describes an image CDN that combines several content delivery networks with image optimisation, and the whole service is hosted by the vendor with no self-hosted option stated. ShortPixel runs optimisation on its own Image Optimization Cloud, serves Adaptive Images from a global CDN, and works with shared, cloud, VPS or dedicated hosting for the site itself. Both are hosted services, neither offers on-premises installation in the text we read, and the CDN pages differ in detail rather than in kind.

When neither fits

If you need an image CDN with on-the-fly URL transformations or published prices before sign-up, neither page makes that easy. Imagify and Optimole are listed in the same category as WordPress-minded alternatives.

TinyPNG or ShortPixel: questions

3 answers
Does TinyPNG's free API quota need a card on file?

No, the developer page states 500 free compressions each month and says no payment method is required. Paid API prices sit on a separate page that we did not read. Check that page before building anything that will exceed the quota.

What does the 2 Months Free label on ShortPixel mean?

It sits on the Unlimited monthly subscription when billed yearly, so the yearly route is discounted against paying month by month. No amount or currency appears on the pages we read. A one-time payment option is listed separately.

Which of the two names a company owner I can contract with?

Both do. TinyPNG's terms name Tinify B.V. in Hoevelaken, The Netherlands, and ShortPixel is a trademark of ID Scout SRL in Bucharest, Romania. For ShortPixel the pages read give no registered address.
