Opening dashboards to the whole company
Tableau licenses Viewers per user, so universal reading is a budget line. Since July 2026 Tableau Cloud also sells capacity-based Viewer Blocks, which lift the limit on viewer accounts and meter concurrent usage, while Creators and Explorers stay per user. Domo simply does not count users at any contract size. Its cost returns as credits for data activity, but for universal read access Domo has the plainer model.

Tools for the analyst
A Tableau Creator licence includes Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder alongside the cloud site, and Explorers can author workbooks in the browser. It is the most fluid product in the category for following a question through a dataset. Domo's strengths lie elsewhere: breadth, with dashboards, drag-and-drop ETL, workflows and a low-code app builder in one platform. For dedicated analysts Tableau is the deeper instrument.

Knowing the price in advance
Tableau Cloud is listed from $15 per user per month, billed annually, with roles at different price points, so a budget follows from counting users by role. Domo publishes how credits are consumed but no price per credit; that is set in the contract and falls with larger commitments. Tableau may well cost more at scale, but the figure is knowable before signing.

Infrastructure you must bring
Domo includes connectors, ETL and storage, so a company with no warehouse can start from one contract, paying one credit per million stored rows a month. If you already run Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks, Domo says there is no charge for data it does not manage. Tableau models and queries data in the databases you connect, with Prep Builder for cleaning. The better fit depends on what you own.

Where the requirement is mostly that many people read simple dashboards at low, published cost, neither is ideal. Metabase's open source edition removes viewer licensing, and Zoho Analytics suits a company without a warehouse reporting on its business apps.

Is Domo a replacement for Tableau?
Only partly. Domo replaces the viewer licence problem and adds built-in pipelines and storage, which helps a company without a warehouse. Tableau remains the stronger choice for analysts who explore data visually. They solve different halves of the reporting problem.
Does Tableau offer unlimited viewers like Domo?
On Tableau Cloud, yes, as an option. Capacity-based Viewer Blocks, available since July 2026, remove the limit on viewer accounts and define how much concurrent usage is supported.
At least one Creator licence is required, and Creators and Explorers are still licensed per user. Domo includes unlimited users in every contract.
Can I try Tableau or Domo before buying?
Domo offers a 30-day free trial of the full platform with unlimited users and no credit card required, followed by custom pricing through its sales team. Salesforce offers a free trial of Tableau, and Tableau Cloud editions require an annual contract once you buy.
