Busuu vs Babbel
Busuu and Babbel are both structured courses for adult beginners, but they differ in what you get for free and what you can price. Busuu has a free account with the essential course and adds native-speaker corrections and CEFR-based certificates. Babbel is paid from the start, publishes its amounts and has a lifetime payment. Busuu's premium plans page showed no prices, so the number comparison is one-sided.
Sebastiaan SmitsFounderVendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.
Choose Busuu ifyou want a free start, corrections from native speakers, and certificates linked to the Common European Framework.
Choose Babbel ifyou want a fixed published price, 14 languages in one plan, and the option of a one-off lifetime payment.

Free entry
Busuu offers a free account with the essential course and basic progress tracking. Babbel lists paid terms only, so a learner testing the water pays nothing at Busuu.

Stated prices
Babbel's published amounts are 17.99 euro a month for a 3-month term, 8.99 euro a month for 12 months, and 299.99 euro for lifetime. Busuu's premium plans page contains no amounts, so cost has to be checked at sign-up. Babbel is more transparent here.
Edge: Babbel
- 03
Feedback from people
Busuu's about page names feedback from native speakers, and its plans page lists CEFR-based certificates under paid tiers. Babbel's pages we read mention podcasts, audio recaps and an AI beta but no human corrections. Busuu leads on this.

- 04
AI features
Busuu puts AI Conversations, Speaking practice and Mistake Repair in Premium Plus, on mobile in selected languages. Babbel Speak is still a beta, and the company keeps the option to charge for it. Neither gives a settled AI price.

Cancelling
Busuu's terms renew Premium for the same period, with a 14-day refund claim and app store purchases cancelled in the store. Babbel's lifetime payment avoids renewal altogether.
Edge: Babbel
When neither fits
If you want live lessons rather than an app, look at Preply or italki. For a vocabulary-led free app, Memrise is another option.
