Acronis Cyber Protect vs Veeam

These two sit in the same price-on-request corner of backup, and neither page shows a figure. The difference is what they put around the backup. Acronis Cyber Protect folds anti-malware, patch management and backup into one agent from a Swiss company in Schaffhausen. Veeam sells recovery in three editions with a no-cost Community Edition for ten workloads at most, and expects you to buy through a reseller or service provider.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

Acronis Cyber Protect 3 · Veeam 2 · open 1
  1. 01

Neither vendor will quote in public

Acronis sells subscriptions per protected workload (workstations, servers, virtual hosts) and says pricing varies by region, workload and deployment, so buyers contact sales, a partner or a price configurator. Veeam's pricing page offers Request Pricing and says Veeam Data Platform licences are metered per workload and transferable across locations and platforms. Both hide the number, so budgeting starts with a call to either company.

    Depends on the buyer

  2. 02

    The ladder of named plans

Acronis names Cyber Protect Standard for SMBs, Backup Advanced for large IT environments (recommended for Microsoft 365 backup) and Cyber Protect Advanced. Veeam names Foundation, Advanced, labelled Most Popular, and Premium, each building on the one before. Veeam's ladder is easier to read because every step adds something, while Acronis separates plans by audience and product line.

    Edge: Veeam

  3. 03

    Trying it before paying

Veeam states a 30-day free trial of Veeam Data Platform, and our category data lists a no-cost Community Edition limited to ten workloads. Acronis shows a Try now option, but the page does not state the trial length or its terms. A buyer who wants a defined test period and a no-cost small deployment gets more certainty from Veeam on the pages we read.

  4. 04

What is bundled and what is extra

Each Acronis subscription includes Acronis-hosted cloud storage of 50 to 250 GB depending on the workload, while cloud storage beyond that, disaster recovery and some advanced services are licensed separately. Veeam treats Veeam Vault secure cloud storage as an add-on, and security services such as a dedicated program manager and quarterly security assessments are add-ons too. Acronis includes a storage allowance up front.

    Edge: Acronis Cyber Protect

  5. 05

    Protection against the ransomware step

Acronis lists full-image and file-level backup, immutable backup, anti-malware, advanced threat monitoring, instant failback to a VM, patch management and Microsoft 365 email archiving in one product. Veeam adds observability and AI-powered threat detection from Advanced and recovery orchestration, compliance and GRC reporting in Premium. Acronis puts active protection in the base agent, Veeam spreads it across editions.

    Edge: Acronis Cyber Protect

  6. 06

Where each is sold and based

Acronis is described as a Swiss technology company headquartered in Schaffhausen, with Acronis International GmbH in the copyright line and no owner stated. Veeam is bought through authorised resellers, Veeam-powered service providers, partners or the sales team, and its footer names Veeam Software without a registered seat; our category data lists the United States. For a buyer wanting a Swiss vendor, Acronis is the clearer fit.

When neither fits

If you only protect a handful of laptops, both will feel heavy and neither will give you a price without a conversation. Backblaze and restic are simpler options in our backup ranking.
