Teachable alternatives: 11 online course platform tools compared

People look for a Teachable alternative when the Starter plan's 7.5% cut of every sale starts to matter, when the features they need (course certificates, removal of Teachable branding, more than one admin) turn out to sit on the $189 Growth plan, or when they want a community or a funnel builder in the same system. They move to platforms with no cut of sales, to a WordPress plugin they own, or to a community-first tool.

Short answer: The closest replacements for Teachable in our online course platform ranking are Kajabi, Podia and Systeme.io. Choose Kajabi if you want courses, email, funnels and a community in one system and accept a higher fixed monthly price. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Online Course Platform in 2026, and each says where it differs from Teachable.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

Teachable

#4 of 14 in our online course platform ranking

  • Pricing: Starter takes 7.5% of each sale; Builder and above, published, take none on Teachable Payments; 7-day trial only
  • Established in: United States
  • Built for: A seller who wants tax and affiliates handled without building them
  • Not for: A high-volume seller sitting on a percentage plan

Why buyers look past Teachable

  1. 01

The sales cut on the cheapest plan

Teachable's Starter plan costs $39 a month on monthly billing and takes a 7.5% transaction fee on every sale. Builder ($89) and Growth ($189) list 0%, but card processing is charged separately (2.9% plus 30 cents on US cards, 3.9% plus 30 cents on international ones, according to the pricing page). A creator who starts on Starter pays the cut precisely when sales begin to grow.

  2. 02

Useful features sit on the top tier

Course certificates, removal of Teachable branding, imported students, custom admin permissions and free subtitles and translations are all listed only on Growth. Starter and Builder allow one admin-level user, Growth five, and the public API is capped at 10,000 requests a month. Anyone who needs these things pays $189 a month on monthly billing, or $139 on annual billing.

  3. 03

Product limits and a single-purpose design

Starter allows 5 products, Builder 10 and Growth 50, and a seven-day trial is the only way to test it before paying. Teachable is built around courses, with a community feature listed from the Builder plan and above, so someone who wants funnels, a full email platform or a community-led offer will either bolt tools on or look at a platform that starts there.

What each one does differently

Kajabi

United States · Per month, published tiers by products and contacts, from $179; a 2% to 0.5% fee on sales through third-party processors

An all-in-one platform with published monthly tiers of $179, $249 and $499 and no revenue share on sales, sized by products and contacts (5, 50 or unlimited products). It costs more than Teachable's entry plans, offers no free plan, and limits contacts (2,500 on Basic) where Teachable limits products and admins.

Switch from Teachable if you want courses, email, funnels and a community in one system and accept a higher fixed monthly price.

Podia

United States · 14-day trial only, no free plan; published monthly plans, Mover takes 5% of sales, Shaker and Earthquaker take no cut

Bundles courses, downloads, coaching, community, events, a website and email marketing on every plan. Annual billing is $42, $84 or $150 a month, with a 14-day trial and no free plan. The cheapest plan takes 5% of sales and caps email subscribers at 100, where Teachable's cheapest takes 7.5%.

Switch from Teachable if you want one tool for courses and digital downloads with a website and email included.

Podia, #1 of 14 in our online course platform ranking →

Systeme.io

France · Free tier with limits; paid monthly plans published, no cut of sales

Has a free plan (2,000 contacts, 1 course, 3 funnels, 1 blog) and states 0% transaction fees on all plans, with paid plans at $17, $47 and $97 a month. It leans on funnels, email automation and affiliate management, so the course builder is only one part of it and the product is less focused on teaching.

Switch from Teachable if you sell through funnels and email and want the lowest fixed cost, with no cut of sales.

Systeme.io, #8 of 14 in our online course platform ranking →

Kartra

United States · Per month by plan, published; tiers by contacts and email volume; Essentials takes 5% of sales, higher plans none

A funnel and marketing suite that also hosts courses and memberships. Plans are $59, $119, $229 and $549 a month on monthly billing. Essentials takes 5% of sales and allows one course and 500 contacts, while Starter and above take 0% and allow unlimited courses. It is priced by contacts and aimed at funnels more than teaching.

Switch from Teachable if you want funnels, email and a checkout together with unlimited courses and are willing to pay by contacts.

Kartra, #12 of 14 in our online course platform ranking →

LearnDash

United States · Annual licence, published, from $259 a year; no hosted option listed, WordPress hosting is yours

A WordPress plugin, not a hosted service. The licence is annual ($259 Essentials, $399 Pro, $599 Elite) with no per-student fees and unlimited courses and learners. You supply the WordPress hosting, security and updates, which Teachable does for you, and in exchange you keep the site and data.

Switch from Teachable if you already run WordPress and want to own the site, the data and the pricing model.

LearnDash, #2 of 14 in our online course platform ranking →

LearnyBox

France · Free plan; paid per month by plan, published

A French-language platform priced in euros, with a permanent free plan limited to 1 course, 20 learners and 1,000 EUR of sales. Paid plans run from 39 EUR a month (Launch) and 89 EUR (Boost), and include funnels, webinars, SCORM content and CRM. The interface and support are French first.

Switch from Teachable if you sell in French or the euro area and want funnels, webinars and a course platform in one.

LearnyBox, #9 of 14 in our online course platform ranking →

Graphy

India · Per month, published tiers; annual billing discounted

Priced from $49 a month (Launch) to $149 (Rise) and $399 (Scale), with a stated 0% transaction fee, unlimited products and learners, and a 14-day trial. It adds branded mobile apps and AI agents for sales and support. Its tiers are set by contacts, admins and class minutes rather than by products.

Switch from Teachable if you want unlimited products and learners with a branded mobile app and no cut of sales.

Graphy, #13 of 14 in our online course platform ranking →

Circle

United States · Per month per plan, published, from $89 on annual billing; a transaction fee of 2% to 0.5% on every plan

A community platform with courses added, not a course platform. Plans start at $89 a month on annual billing, and every plan carries a transaction fee (2% on Pro, 1% on Business and Scale, 0.5% on the top tier). Members, spaces and live events are the centre, while course tooling is lighter than Teachable's.

Switch from Teachable if your product is a paid community or cohort and the course is secondary.

Circle, #5 of 14 in our online course platform ranking →

Mighty Networks

United States · Per month, published, from $79; a transaction fee of 2% to 0.5% on every plan

A community platform with courses and events, priced at $79 a month (Launch), $179 (Scale) and $354 (Growth) on monthly billing, with members unlimited on every plan and its own iOS and Android apps. It is organised around the community, and tools for a conventional self-paced course catalogue are secondary.

Switch from Teachable if you want a member community with its own mobile app and courses inside it.

Mighty Networks, #14 of 14 in our online course platform ranking →

Skool

United States · Per community per month, published: Hobby $9 plus a 10% transaction fee, Pro $99 plus 2.9%

A community platform with courses, simply priced: Hobby at $9 a month with a 10% transaction fee, Pro at $99 with 2.9%. Members, courses and videos are unlimited on both. Customisation and marketing tooling are minimal next to Teachable.

Switch from Teachable if you are launching a paid community with a course and want the smallest fixed fee.

Skool, #10 of 14 in our online course platform ranking →

Uscreen

United States · Per month, published from $49; $1.99 or $0.99 per subscriber on Growth and App Essentials, and 5% to 10% on one-time sales

Built for video memberships with a Netflix-style catalogue and native livestreaming. Starter is $49 a month with a 100-subscriber limit and $0 per subscriber, Growth adds $1.99 per subscriber, and one-time sales carry a 5% to 10% fee. Branded mobile and TV apps start at a $449 plan.

Switch from Teachable if your product is a library of video that subscribers watch on an ongoing basis, including on TV and mobile apps.

04

When Teachable is still the right choice

Teachable is still the right choice for a creator whose business is the course itself and who wants to run it with little configuration. From the Builder plan up it takes no cut of sales, it handles sales tax and VAT collection on Teachable Payments (the vendor lists 45+ countries), and it has iOS and Android student apps on every plan. If your catalogue fits within 10 products and you do not need certificates or extra admins, moving would trade a working setup for a different set of limits.

05

What moving off Teachable involves

  1. 01

Students, content and payments move separately

A switch involves three different transfers: the course content, the student records and the active payment relationships. Teachable's Growth plan lists imported students, but that covers bringing students in. Ask the destination platform whether it imports from Teachable and how, before cancelling, and keep a full export of lessons, videos and student emails until the new site is selling.

  2. 02

    Subscriptions and card data

Recurring payments run through Teachable Payments, which the vendor says is built on Stripe. A subscriber's card cannot simply be copied to another provider by a creator, so recurring students may need to re-enter payment details unless both platforms can work from the same Stripe account. Plan the cut-over date with that in mind and tell students in advance.

  3. 03

    URLs, tax settings and coupons

Check the custom domain, course links, coupons and affiliate agreements. Teachable calculates and remits sales tax and VAT for you on its own checkout. A destination that does not do this means registering and filing yourself, so compare tax handling as closely as you compare price.

Questions about replacing Teachable

6 answers
Is there a free Teachable alternative?

Systeme.io has a free plan with up to 2,000 contacts, 1 course and 3 sales funnels, and LearnyBox has a free plan limited to 1 course, 20 learners and 1,000 EUR of sales.

Teachable itself offers a seven-day trial and no free plan. Free plans of the alternatives carry limits that matter once you have real volume.

Which Teachable alternative takes no cut of sales?

Kajabi states no revenue sharing and systeme.io lists 0% transaction fees on all plans. Graphy also states 0%, and Podia takes no fee on Shaker and Earthquaker.

On Teachable, Builder and Growth list 0% but Starter takes 7.5%. Payment processors still charge their own fees on every platform.

Can I keep my own site instead of renting a platform?

Yes. LearnDash is a WordPress plugin with an annual licence from $259 and no per-student fees. You run the hosting, updates and security yourself, and handling sales tax is yours to arrange. It suits someone who already runs WordPress.

Is Teachable cheaper than Kajabi?

On list price, yes. Teachable's monthly plans are $39, $89 and $189, and Kajabi's are $179, $249 and $499 (cheaper on annual billing).

The two are sized differently: Kajabi counts contacts and includes email and funnels, while Teachable limits products and admins. Compare against the features you would otherwise buy separately.

Which alternative is best for a paid community?

Circle, Mighty Networks and Skool are built around the community and treat courses as a part of it.

Skool is the cheapest to start ($9 a month with a 10% transaction fee), Circle starts at $89 a month, and Mighty Networks at $79 a month. All three have lighter course tooling than Teachable.

Does Teachable handle sales tax for me?

On Teachable Payments, yes: the vendor says sales tax, VAT and GST are calculated, collected and remitted automatically for 45+ countries. Check this against your own situation and the alternative's approach, as some platforms leave tax filing to the seller.
