Submittable alternatives: 10 grant management tools compared

Teams look past Submittable when the pieces they need most sit behind account-manager requests, when payouts have to leave the US dollar, or when a funder wants a tool shaped only around grants. The ten alternatives below include published-price tools, EU and UK suppliers, foundation specialists and corporate-giving platforms.

Short answer: Looking for a replacement for Submittable? Good Grants, Submit.com and Optimy come first in our grant management ranking. Where a category has smaller vendors worth recommending, they occupy the first three places and the big brands come below them. Start with Good Grants if you want a price you can read before talking to sales. All 10 alternatives below are ranked products from Best Grant Management Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from Submittable.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Submittable

#5 of 15 in our grant management ranking

  • Pricing: Quoted by product and capacity, no published tier
  • Established in: United States
  • Built for: High application volumes that need a reviewer experience people finish
  • Not for: Funders whose main problem is compliance after the award

Why buyers look past Submittable

  1. 01

Fund tracking and staged review are switched on by request

Submittable's help centre says Funds Tracking is not self-serve: you contact Account Management to have it added, and only level 5 administrators can use it. Multi-Stage Reviews is described as a paid feature, also added through your account manager. A funder who counted on both at the outset should ask what each adds to the quote.

  2. 02

    Payments are settled in dollars

For fee-based projects the help centre explains that submitters pay in the currency you choose, which is converted to USD on deposit, and the Submittable fee is calculated on the USD amount. Payouts outside the US go by PayPal, direct deposit or check, always in USD, with conversion at your bank or PayPal. A European funder paying in euros takes on that conversion.

  3. 03

Connecting other systems means API work or Zapier

The API article describes read and write access, enabled per organisation under Integrations, with a cap of 10 requests a second and 10,000 an hour. The article lists Zapier for no-code links. Teams that want a finance or CRM sync maintained for them often compare tools that list those connections as product features.

What each one does differently

Good Grants

Australia · Published

Good Grants prints its annual prices on its site, Intro at €3,200 and Premium at €6,400, both with unlimited users and up to 10k applications, and offers a 14-day trial. Intro allows one application form, Premium ten. Judging panels and blind review come from its awards background, while evaluation and closeout are still listed as in development, so test that end during the trial.

Why Good Grants is #1 among 15 grant management products →

Submit.com

Ireland · Published

Submit.com is a Cork company whose Starter plan costs €5,995 a year for one programme, with up to 1,000 applicants, 20 reviewers and 5 admins. Pro, quoted, stretches to 5 programmes and 5,000 applicants. The pricing page marks grant tracking and Stripe payments as premium items missing from Starter, so a funder paying out through the tool should price a higher tier.

Switch from Submittable if you are an Irish or EU public body running a single scheme.

Optimy

Belgium · Published

Optimy, from Belgium, runs on AWS in Europe or the United States and addresses corporations, family foundations, universities and nonprofits. Its site names budget and disbursement tracking per programme with variance alerts, blind review with conflict-of-interest controls, and CSRD reporting against custom KPIs. Sponsorships and volunteering sit in the same system, which a grants-only product would not cover.

Switch from Submittable if grants, sponsorships and volunteering should share one system in EU hosting.

Flexigrant

United Kingdom · On request

Flexigrant is a Fluent Technology product from Belfast, shaped around UK funders: academic peer review, reporting a charity regulator will accept and data kept in the UK. Staff can change forms, review stages and scoring unaided. Go-live is a vendor-run project of about 13 weeks, quoted apart from the four-tier annual subscription, and its presence beyond the UK and Ireland is thin.

Switch from Submittable if you fund UK research or charities and want peer review built in.

Where Flexigrant stands: place 6 of 15 in the grant management ranking →

SmartyGrants

Australia · See profile

SmartyGrants lists ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and Cyber Essentials Plus, and names federal departments, NSW agencies, city councils, trusts and universities as users. It covers application, assessment and acquittal reporting. Customer data sits in AWS Sydney, and UK visitors are sent to a separate regional site, so check data location against your own policy before shortlisting.

Switch from Submittable if acquittal reporting and a government-grade security record matter most.

Foundant GLM

United States · Published

Foundant GLM is an all-in-one platform for grantmaking foundations, and its site promises unlimited user access for applicants, reviewers, recipients, staff and board members, which removes per-seat sums for a large panel. The templates assume a US foundation. International grantees and multi-currency payments are weaker, and complex government programmes are steered to SmartSimple, also owned by Foundant.

Switch from Submittable if you are a foundation with a big reviewer and board circle.

GivingData

United States · On request

GivingData belongs to the Foundant family and serves grantmakers only, with relationship records, due diligence and payments alongside intake and reporting. For a private foundation it is a tighter fit than Fluxx. Tax and reporting fields default to US conventions, so a European funder maps its own by hand, and plans are quoted by tier with no list price.

Switch from Submittable if relationship history with grantees matters more than public submissions.

SmartSimple Cloud

Canada · On request

SmartSimple Cloud is the configurable end of the Foundant group, aimed at private and family foundations, research bodies and government. Unusual eligibility rules, many funds and multi-year payment schedules are what it was made for. Expect an implementation project measured in months, later changes that often go back through the vendor, and a quote with implementation billed separately.

Switch from Submittable if the programme does not fit any template and you have a systems owner.

SmartSimple Cloud comes 8 of 15 when grant management products are ranked here →

Fluxx

United States · On request

Fluxx targets foundations and public agencies distributing large sums and gives grantees a portal that cuts report-chasing emails. Its workflow engine is deep, so someone has to own it. A separate product, Grantseeker, now serves nonprofits finding funding. Pricing is quoted per organisation on an annual term, which suits teams that outgrew a template more than teams moving for cost.

Switch from Submittable if a dedicated administrator can run a deep workflow engine.

Fluxx comes 10 of 15 when grant management products are ranked here →

Bonterra CyberGrants

United States · On request

Bonterra CyberGrants is known for paying grantees at volume, including US charity vetting, and is sold to banks and medical affairs teams, while the newer Deed Grants covers general enterprise grantmaking. It joins employee giving and grants under one supplier. The group grew by acquisition and the joins show, so ask about migration out before signing an annual quote.

Switch from Submittable if corporate giving and large payment runs sit under one contract.

Which alternative for which situation

  1. 01

You run one annual programme on a fixed budget

Good Grants: Good Grants lists Intro at €3,200 a year with unlimited users and up to 10k applications, plus a 14-day trial. It allows one application form on that plan.

  2. 02

You are an Irish or EU public body with a single scheme

Submit.com: Submit.com's Starter is €5,995 a year for one programme, 1,000 applicants and 20 reviewers. Check which payment and tracking features need a higher tier.

  3. 03

You manage grants, sponsorship and volunteering together

Optimy: Optimy covers all three programme types and states hosting on AWS in Europe or the United States, with budget tracking and CSRD reporting.

  4. 04

You have a large panel of reviewers and board members

Foundant GLM: Foundant says GLM includes unlimited user access, so extra reviewers do not change the plan. It is built around the US foundation workflow.

  5. 05

You fund UK research with academic peer review

Flexigrant: Flexigrant is made in Belfast around peer review and UK charity reporting, with data kept in the UK. Allow about 13 weeks for go-live.

04

When Submittable is still the right choice

Submittable stays a fair choice when the work is mostly intake: applications, submissions and reviewer scoring across many programmes, with a reviewer experience people finish. Its help centre documents review workflows, automated scoring for forms, group and randomised assignments, a reviewer workload dashboard and custom roles. If funds tracking and staged review are already on your account and the dollar settlement suits you, a move buys little.

05

What moving off Submittable involves

  1. 01

Take a data export before touching review stages

The help centre warns that editing or deleting stages after reviews are complete can cause data loss, and recommends contacting technical support first if unsure. The API article lists routine backups by download or export. Take that copy, and check reviewer scores and comments are in it, before any cutover date.

  2. 02

Awards and payments carry over only as data

In Funds Tracking, a fund, its awards and its payments are linked records, and deleting a fund leaves submission data that remains reportable in Advanced Reports. Ask the new vendor how historic awards and part-paid grants are imported, and keep a spreadsheet of open balances until both sides reconcile.

Questions about replacing Submittable

6 answers
Does Submittable publish its prices?

The pricing page was not readable to us when we checked, so we state no figures here. Ask for a written quote that separates the base plan from add-ons such as Funds Tracking and Multi-Stage Reviews, since both are added through your account team.

Which grant tools show a price on their own site?

Good Grants lists Intro at €3,200 and Premium at €6,400 a year. Submit.com lists its Starter plan at €5,995 a year for one programme. Pro and Enterprise at Submit.com, and most others in this list, are quoted.

Can I take payments in euros through Submittable?

The help centre says submitters can pay in the currency you choose, but funds are converted to USD on deposit and fees come off the USD amount. Payouts to organisations outside the US are made in USD by PayPal, direct deposit or check.

Which alternatives host in Europe?

Optimy states hosting on AWS in Europe or the United States. Flexigrant keeps data in the UK, and Submit.com is an Irish company, though its pricing page does not state a hosting location. SmartyGrants holds data in AWS Sydney.

Is there an alternative with unlimited users?

Good Grants lists unlimited users, admins and managers on Intro and Premium. Foundant says GLM gives unlimited user access to applicants, reviewers, recipients, staff and board members. Submit.com instead caps reviewers and admins by plan.

Does Submittable have an API?

Yes. The help centre describes read and write access, switched on per organisation, with limits of 10 requests a second and 10,000 an hour, plus a Zapier route. It does not name which plans include it.
