ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus alternatives: 11 ITSM tools compared
Buyers start looking past ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus when the edition they need is not the edition they can afford: the free Standard tier covers a plain ticket desk, while change management, projects and the CMDB sit in Enterprise and the price also climbs with the number of IT assets. Others want a vendor that is not part of a 60-product IT management portfolio. They mostly move to a per-agent tool with a flat price list, a European vendor, or an open source desk they host themselves.
Short answer: Looking for a replacement for ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus? Freshservice, Jira Service Management and HaloITSM come first in our ITSM software ranking. Our rule for order: vendors outside the big brands go first, and the largest names are not placed in the top three. Start with Freshservice if you want agent-only pricing, a cloud service and a quick trial without any on-premises requirement. Every one of the 11 products below comes from Best ITSM Software in 2026, with a note on how it departs from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus.
Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

Why buyers look past ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus
01
The edition, not the product, sets the price
The pricing page lists Standard, Professional and Enterprise. Standard counts technicians only and is free for up to five; Professional and Enterprise also count IT assets, and the page puts change and release management, projects and the CMDB in Enterprise. On the cloud table, the first paid Standard step is US$1,545 per year for 10 technicians, while Enterprise starts at US$1,595 per year for just two technicians and 250 assets. A desk that grows into change control therefore reprices on two axes at once.
02
A desk inside a very large IT portfolio
ManageEngine describes itself as the enterprise IT management division of Zoho Corp. and says it offers more than 60 enterprise IT management products. ServiceDesk Plus is built to plug into those, with native integrations to the sister products named on its product page. That suits an estate that already runs them. A team that only wants a service desk may find the tool shaped by a suite it does not own, and the free tier ends where the suite upsell begins.
03
Support is business-hours and free tier support is paid
The pricing FAQ says support is 24x5 except public holidays and is included for paying customers. The free edition for up to five technicians has no included support: the page offers an optional annual maintenance fee of US$35 per technician. Teams that run a desk around the clock, or that want a vendor-side contact on the free tier, compare this with plans that publish 24/7 support.
the desk answers customers or external users and you want to stay with Zoho for billing and integrations

Freshservice

Freshservice sells four plans, with Starter at $19, Growth at $49 and Pro at $99 per agent per month on annual billing. Service catalogue and SLA management start at Growth, problem and change management at Pro. Asset units are bought in packs of 500 and there is no on-premises version. A 14-day trial opens all features.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if you want agent-only pricing, a cloud service and a quick trial without any on-premises requirement.
Atlassian's page shows a free plan for three agents, Standard at $21.50 and Premium at $55.28 per agent per month, with annual billing saving up to 17%. Change management and advanced incident and problem management are listed under Premium. Data Center plans exist for self-managed deployment. It is strongest where the resolving engineers already live in Jira.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if developers resolve most incidents and you want change approvals tied to CI/CD deployments.
Halo charges one price per agent, £66 on the UK calculator we read, with all modules, AI and integrations included and no tiers. Named and concurrent licences cost the same, and end users are free. The page states that onboarding packages are required with purchase at a bespoke cost, and a 30-day trial opens all features.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if you want change, CMDB and projects without an edition ladder, and shift staff who share concurrent seats.
SolarWinds Service Desk starts at $39 per technician per month on annual billing with unlimited users. Its entry plan already lists asset management, change management and the CMDB, which ServiceDesk Plus holds back for Enterprise. Runbooks, virtual agent and API access begin at $99, and asset pricing is quoted on request.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if change control and a CMDB are non-negotiable and you do not want to buy the top edition for them.
TOPdesk's page lists Essential at £51, Engaged at £72 and Excellent at £101 per agent per month, in a currency selector that also offers euros. Unlimited tickets, assets and end users are in every plan, hosting is part of the subscription, and only the Engaged plan adds change and problem management. There is no free tier and no self-hosted choice on that page.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if you prefer a European supplier with local-language support and an all-hosted subscription.
SysAid's page shows Professional at $89 per agent per month, listing request, incident, change and problem management with 250 managed assets included. The comparison table marks a minimum of 20 agents for the plan, which rules out the small teams that ServiceDesk Plus Standard serves. Enterprise is quoted and a 30-day trial runs the full product.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if you run at least twenty agents and want assets, change and AI agents in a single published plan.
GLPI is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence and runs on your own servers at no licence cost. Its maker Teclib' sells GLPI Network support subscriptions: €120 a year for one agent, then €100 a month for up to 10 agents, €300 for up to 50 and €1,000 above that, with a twelve-month commitment. Its cloud offer has a 45-day trial.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if you have a sysadmin who will host and update the desk and you want the source code rather than an edition ladder.
Ivanti describes 14 ITIL 4-certified practices and lets you deploy in the cloud, on-premises or in a hybrid setup, which matches ServiceDesk Plus on hosting choice. The product page carries no prices at all, so the cost is a sales conversation. Its page highlights no-code workflow design and a generative AI summary of tickets.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if you need a vendor-run desk with on-premises or hybrid hosting and accept a quoted price.
BMC Helix ITSM comes from BMC Helix, Inc. and is presented with agentic AI features such as incident clustering and change risk analysis. The product page lists no prices and only a request-pricing form, and we could not read any deployment statement on it. It is aimed at larger estates, not at a five-technician free start.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if your incident and change volume is high enough to justify AI-assisted clustering and a quoted contract.
SuperOps bundles endpoint management with a built-in ticketing desk and knowledge base. Pricing is requested, billed per endpoint per month with unlimited technicians, and covers Windows, macOS and Linux endpoints. It is a device-management tool with a service desk inside, so it replaces ServiceDesk Plus less as a process tool.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if your service desk is mostly device support and you would rather pay per managed endpoint than per technician.
Zoho Desk is the customer-support product from the same parent company. The page we read showed rupee prices of ₹800, ₹1,400 and ₹2,400 per user per month, a free tier for three users with email tickets and a 15-day trial. The page does not mention IT incident, change or asset management, so it fits support queues better than an IT desk.
Switch from ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus if the desk answers customers or external users and you want to stay with Zoho for billing and integrations.
When ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus is still the right choice
Stay on ServiceDesk Plus when you already run other ManageEngine products and value the native links between them, when you need an on-premises installation, or when five technicians and a plain ticket queue are all you need and the free Standard tier covers it. The Enterprise edition also holds change management, projects and a CMDB in one licence, with up to 15 service desk instances for separate departments. If your current licence is cheap per technician and your asset count is stable, price the move in agent seats plus migration effort before assuming a rival is cheaper.

What moving off ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus involves
01
Check which edition your processes need
List the practices you actually run: incident, request, problem, change, release, asset, CMDB, projects. Match each to the plan that carries it in the target. Freshservice puts change at Pro, Jira Service Management at Premium, TOPdesk at Engaged, while SolarWinds includes it from $39 per technician. Compare the total at that tier, not the headline entry price.
02
Plan the data and the licence end
Export requests, assets, knowledge articles and contacts, then test an import into the target with a sample. Custom functions, blueprints and low-code modules built in ServiceDesk Plus will not move and need rebuilding. ManageEngine says you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel cloud subscriptions at any time, but check the notice terms of your own order, which we cannot see.

Questions about replacing ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus
6 answers
Is ServiceDesk Plus really free?
Partly. The Standard edition is free for up to five technicians on both cloud and on-premises, as stated on the pricing page. It covers the IT service desk only.
Professional and Enterprise add asset management, change, projects and the CMDB, and support on the free edition is an optional annual fee of US$35 per technician.
Which alternative is cheapest to start?
Jira Service Management has a free plan for three agents and Zoho Desk a free tier for three users, but Zoho Desk is customer support software.
GLPI itself carries no licence fee. Among paid desks, SolarWinds starts at $39 and Freshservice at $19 per agent per month, each billed annually.
Can I keep an on-premises installation?
Yes, with some of them. GLPI is open source and self-hostable, Ivanti lists cloud, on-premises and hybrid deployment, and Jira Service Management offers Data Center plans. Freshservice, Halo, TOPdesk, SolarWinds and SysAid pages we read describe subscription services, with no self-hosted option stated.
Does ManageEngine charge for end users?
No. The pricing FAQ says you pay for administrators and technicians, with no restriction on IT end users, and for assets if you use asset management. HaloITSM, TOPdesk and SolarWinds likewise state that end users or requesters are not charged.
Is there a European alternative?
TOPdesk lists euros in its currency selector and states a local support team and data hosted in your area.
HaloITSM prices in pounds on a UK calculator, and GLPI is built by Teclib' as an open source project. ManageEngine states that it runs its own data centres rather than third-party ones.
Which alternatives put change management in the cheapest plan?
SolarWinds lists change management and the CMDB in its $39 Essentials plan, and Halo includes every module in its single price. Freshservice needs Pro, Jira Service Management lists it under Premium, TOPdesk under Engaged, and ServiceDesk Plus under Enterprise.
