People leave DBeaver for different reasons: they want a lighter tool that does one engine well, they hit a feature that sits in the paid PRO side, or they cannot find a price to put in a purchase request. The replacements below run from a single PHP file to commercial IDEs, with a few built for one database only.
Short answer: Where a category has smaller vendors worth recommending, they occupy the first three places and the big brands come below them. For DBeaver users, the top three picks from our database client software ranking are HeidiSQL, Adminer and Beekeeper Studio. Pick HeidiSQL if your databases are relational and you want a free client with no paid tier. Every one of the 11 products below comes from Best Database Client Software in 2026, with a note on how it departs from DBeaver.
Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.
Pricing: Annual subscriptions for paid editions; community edition at no cost; 14-day trial of PRO
Established in: Not stated by the vendor
Built for: Teams starting on the community edition who may add web editions later
Not for: Buyers who need clear edition prices before a first conversation

Why buyers look past DBeaver
01
Useful features sit on the PRO side
The DBeaver site describes Community as free and open source under the ASL licence. PRO is a commercial edition adding advanced security, NoSQL and cloud database support, ODBC connections, a visual query builder, a task scheduler and technical support. A team that needs MongoDB access or scheduled tasks therefore needs a paid edition.
02
Many editions, and no prices on the page
The buy page lists annual subscriptions for Enterprise, Ultimate and Lite on the desktop, CloudBeaver Enterprise and Team Edition for the web, and dbvr for the command line. The pages we read show Download and Learn more buttons instead of prices, and the /pricing/ address returned a 404 error. Budgeting needs a quote or a trial.
03
The company behind it is hard to pin down
The About page gives no legal company name, postal address or country. The only identifiers we found were a support email address, a Facebook link to DBeaverCorporation and the copyright line DBeaver Corp. Buyers who must record a supplier's jurisdiction need to ask before ordering.

HeidiSQL
Germany · Published
HeidiSQL is a one-author desktop client written by Ansgar Becker, listed with an address in Neuenkirchen, Germany. It is free, with a donate page and no paid plans. It reaches MariaDB, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Interbase and Firebird, with SSH tunnels and SSL settings. The licence text was not visible to us.
Switch from DBeaver if your databases are relational and you want a free client with no paid tier.
Adminer ships as a single PHP file that you place on your own web server, with desktop builds for Windows, Linux and macOS that bundle PHP. It runs arbitrary SQL, exports to SQL or CSV, draws a foreign-key schema diagram and lists running processes so you can kill them. Licensing is Apache or GPL 2.
Switch from DBeaver if you want a browser-based client that is a single file on your own server.
Beekeeper Studio has a free Community plan, then yearly-billed per-user tiers: Indie at USD 9 for two users per licence, Professional at USD 14 for twenty, Business at USD 18 for unlimited users with invoice payment. A 14-day trial needs no account or card. AI Shell and cloud workspaces belong to the top two tiers.
Switch from DBeaver if you want a published per-user price ladder and a trial without a card.
DbGate gives away a community edition and sells Premium at USD 12 a month or USD 120 a year for one user. Team Premium costs USD 15 per user a month, or USD 150 a year, for two or more. Named features include a data browser, a query console and AI chat. The footer names Sprinx Systems, LLC.
Switch from DBeaver if you want to try a free edition and pay monthly if the team needs more.
DbVisualizer Pro is priced per user in USD excluding VAT: 199 new and 89 renewal for 1 to 3 users, falling to 144 and 65 at 50 or more. Each subscription includes a perpetual usage licence, though updates need an active one. Free and Pro share one installer unlocked by a key, and the software is engineered in Stockholm.
Switch from DBeaver if you want volume pricing with cheaper renewals and a perpetual licence.
TablePlus sells perpetual licences with one year of updates: Basic at USD 99 for one device, Standard at USD 129 for two as currently shown, and Team at USD 79 per seat from three seats. There is no free plan. The trial limits you to two tabs, two windows and two advanced filters. The page names no country.
Switch from DBeaver if you would rather buy a licence once than rent a subscription.
pgAdmin is community-maintained under the PostgreSQL licence by the pgAdmin Development Team, and the site mentions no paid tier. It runs as a desktop app, in a container, or in server mode as a web application. The query tool has history and graphical EXPLAIN. Our pages describe it only for PostgreSQL.
Switch from DBeaver if you work with PostgreSQL alone and want the community's own tool.
Studio 3T is a MongoDB-oriented desktop IDE, billed per user per year at USD 499 for Professional and USD 699 for Ultimate, with licences that do not auto-renew. A community edition is free for non-commercial use only. The footer shows a Berlin address for 3T Software Labs Ltd, and data-masking products cost extra.
Switch from DBeaver if MongoDB is the main reason you opened DBeaver.
MongoDB Compass is MongoDB's own desktop application, called the free GUI tool for data exploration. It samples collections to find outliers, builds aggregation pipelines visually, manages indexes and shows a visual Explain Plan. The page lists no paid tier and does not state the licence. The vendor is MongoDB, Inc.
Switch from DBeaver if you need a vendor-made, free MongoDB explorer and nothing else.
RedisInsight targets Redis alone. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, inside the Redis Cloud console, or self-hosted through Docker, Kubernetes or AWS EC2. Its Workbench, Redis Copilot, Streams and Pub/Sub views and database checks are Redis-specific. The site describes it as 100% free, with no paid tier listed.
Switch from DBeaver if the databases you open are Redis instances.
DataGrip is JetBrains' SQL IDE, supporting over 50 local and cloud databases. It is free for non-commercial use, and commercial use needs a subscription with a 30-day trial. The buy page did not render its price table for us. It names schema-aware completion, a data editor and JetBrains AI, and the copyright holder is JetBrains s.r.o.
Switch from DBeaver if you already use JetBrains tools and want code-style SQL editing.
You only use relational databases and want no paid tier
HeidiSQL: It is free, reaches seven engines including MariaDB, MySQL and PostgreSQL, and sells nothing beyond a donate page.
02
You want the client as one file on your own server
Adminer: It is a single PHP file under an Apache or GPL 2 licence, with desktop builds that bundle PHP.
03
You prefer a one-off licence over a subscription
TablePlus: Basic is USD 99 for one device with one year of updates, and the trial is capped at two tabs and two windows.
04
You buy for a larger team and want falling per-user prices
DbVisualizer: Pro drops from USD 199 per user for 1 to 3 users to USD 144 at 50 or more, with cheaper renewals.
05
Most of your work is MongoDB
MongoDB Compass: It is MongoDB's own free GUI, with visual aggregation pipelines and a visual Explain Plan.

When DBeaver is still the right choice
DBeaver stays the sensible choice when one tool has to open many kinds of database. Community is free and open source, with a data editor, SQL editor, task management and AI chat, and the same family offers a web edition and a command-line product. Start with Community before paying for anything, and request a PRO trial only if you hit a named feature such as NoSQL support.
05
What moving off DBeaver involves
01
Saved connections need re-entering
Connection profiles, SSH tunnel settings and stored credentials do not travel between clients in a standard format. Note the drivers, hosts, tunnels and SSL options for each database, and test every connection in the new tool before you retire DBeaver.
02
Check the engines before you commit
Several alternatives cover a narrower set: HeidiSQL stops at relational databases, pgAdmin is described for PostgreSQL, RedisInsight is Redis only. List the engines your team opens in a month, then rule out any tool that misses one.
03
Licence terms differ per seat or per device
Some tools bill per user per year, others per device with perpetual licences, others by volume band. Count people and machines first. A tool priced per device can cost more or less than one priced per user depending on how your team shares laptops.

Questions about replacing DBeaver
6 answers
Is DBeaver free?
DBeaver Community is described on the vendor's site as free and open source under the ASL licence.
PRO is a commercial edition, and the pages we read show no prices for it, only a 14-day trial licence and a free academic licence for students on request.
What is in DBeaver PRO that Community lacks?
The site lists advanced security, NoSQL and cloud database support, ODBC connections, a visual query builder, a task scheduler and ongoing technical support. The dbvr product adds SSO, SSL and Kerberos authentication and secret management integrations in its commercial edition.
Which DBeaver alternatives cost nothing?
HeidiSQL and pgAdmin show no paid tier, Adminer is free for commercial use, MongoDB Compass and RedisInsight are described as free, and Beekeeper Studio, DbGate and DataGrip offer free editions or non-commercial use. Check each licence before relying on it in a company.
Is there a client I can buy once?
TablePlus sells perpetual licences with one year of updates, from USD 99 for one device. DbVisualizer subscriptions include a perpetual usage licence, though updates need an active subscription. SQLPro Studio and Navicat also mention lifetime or perpetual options in our category notes.
Which alternative works in a browser?
Adminer is a single PHP file on your server, and pgAdmin offers a server mode as a web application for PostgreSQL. DBeaver's own web product is CloudBeaver, sold in Enterprise and Team editions.
Where is DBeaver's company based?
The pages we read do not say. The About page lists no legal name, address or country, and the buy page shows only DBeaver Corp. HeidiSQL's author is listed in Germany, DbVisualizer is engineered in Stockholm and Studio 3T shows a Berlin address.
