Vanta vs AuditBoard

These two share a keyword and little else. Vanta automates evidence for certifications such as SOC 2 and gives a sales team a recognised trust centre. AuditBoard organises the work of an internal audit department, above all SOX testing. SaaS companies selling to enterprises buy Vanta; listed companies with auditors on staff buy AuditBoard.

Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say about a product. How that works.

Where they differ

Vanta 2 · AuditBoard 1 · open 1
  1. 01

A first SOC 2 for a sales deal

This is Vanta's home ground: it defined the certification-automation market, is tagged for SOC 2 and has the largest auditor and partner network. AuditBoard is explicitly the wrong tool here; our assessment is that a company chasing its first SOC 2 should not be considering it at all.

    Edge: Vanta

  2. 02

    SOX testing and internal audit

AuditBoard is the strongest product in the category for an internal audit team running SOX: test plans, control testing, findings, remediation tracking and the reporting an audit committee expects, replacing spreadsheets nobody can reconcile at quarter end. Vanta's documented strengths are certification evidence and the trust centre, which is a different job entirely.

    Edge: AuditBoard

  3. 03

What must already exist in your company

AuditBoard assumes an internal audit department is already in place; without one, almost nothing in it applies. Vanta belongs to the group of tools aimed at companies with no compliance staff, connecting to systems so a small team can get through an audit. The barrier to getting any value is far lower with Vanta.

    Edge: Vanta

  4. 04

    Contract and implementation

Both are quoted annual subscriptions with no published price. AuditBoard is implemented with the vendor or a partner and priced at enterprise level. Vanta is the most expensive of the automation tools and its contracts renew automatically unless cancelled within a notice window. Each carries a different commercial risk, and neither is light.

    Depends on the buyer

03

When neither fits

A company with an established risk or ethics function, but no internal audit team and no certificate to chase, fits neither. LogicGate is built for risk workflows, and GAN Integrity covers third-party risk and whistleblowing.

Vanta or AuditBoard: questions

3 answers
Are Vanta and AuditBoard direct competitors?

Hardly. Vanta sells automated evidence for certifications to companies without compliance staff. AuditBoard serves internal audit departments, especially those running SOX testing. A buyer comparing the two should first decide whether the need is one certificate or a permanent audit programme.

Can AuditBoard be used for SOC 2 instead of Vanta?

It is not what AuditBoard is for. It is built around internal audit work and will not tell you whether a cloud bucket is public.

For a first SOC 2, Vanta or another automation tool is the relevant purchase, and an accredited auditor issues the report either way.

How do Vanta and AuditBoard compare on price?

Neither publishes figures, so no number can be given. Vanta is a quoted annual subscription and the most expensive of the automation tools, with auto-renewing terms. AuditBoard is quoted per organisation at enterprise level and needs an implementation involving the vendor or a partner.
