UptimeRobot vs Pingdom

UptimeRobot starts at nothing: 50 monitors on a 5-minute interval, no card needed. Pingdom has no free plan and sells browser-style transaction checks and real-user data as separate subscriptions under SolarWinds. The choice is mostly between a cheap pinger and a heavier web-performance suite.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

What you can run without paying

UptimeRobot's Free plan covers 50 monitors at 5-minute checks, including HTTP, ping, port, keyword, API and UDP types, and is marked fine for commercial projects. Pingdom offers a trial only, and that trial bundles Synthetics and Real User Monitoring. A site that just needs to know when it is down gets more from UptimeRobot.

    How the bill is built

UptimeRobot prices by plan tier: Solo is 10 monitors with 60-second checks, listed at EUR 108 a year. Pingdom has you pick a quantity step in a calculator, from 10 uptime checks, 1 advanced check and 50 SMS upward, then adds RUM by pageviews. The calculator on the page we read shows no figure until you choose. Fixed tiers are easier to budget.

  3. 03

    Transactions and visitor data

Pingdom lists transaction monitoring and page speed monitoring in its synthetic product, and RUM keeps data for 13 months with unlimited sites. UptimeRobot has no such browser-flow product; its paid tiers add SSL, DNS, domain expiry and heartbeat checks. If you must script a checkout or measure real visitors, Pingdom is the one with those parts.

  4. 04

    Vendor and ownership

UptimeRobot's operating company is UptimeRobot s. r. o. in Bratislava, Slovakia. Pingdom was founded in Sweden in 2005, but SolarWinds bought it in 2014 and the contract is now with a United States group that was itself taken private. For buyers who want an EU-registered supplier, UptimeRobot fits more cleanly.

When neither fits

If you want a mid-priced European option with browser checks, or a monitor that also does on-call, look at Better Stack or Hyperping instead.

UptimeRobot or Pingdom: questions

3 answers
Does Pingdom have a free plan?

No. The pricing page offers a free trial that includes both Synthetics and Real User Monitoring, and then paid subscriptions.

How fast can UptimeRobot check?

Free is 5 minutes. Solo is 60 seconds, and the Team and Scale tiers go to 30 and 15 seconds.

Can UptimeRobot replace Pingdom's transaction checks?

Not for scripted multi-step flows. UptimeRobot checks endpoints, keywords, APIs, ports and heartbeats, and says nothing on its pricing page about browser transaction scripts.
