Apple Music vs Deezer

Apple Music lists no permanent free plan and ties its best experience to Apple hardware, while Deezer still shows an ad-supported plan at EUR 0 that depends on your country. The single-user prices are USD 11.99 and EUR 11.99, which cannot be ranked without a shared currency. Family sharing differs in shape, with Apple capping at five people and Deezer at six members on 13 devices. Trial rules and the company behind each service round out the picture.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

Apple Music 2 · Deezer 2 · open 2
  1. 01

Listening with ads instead of a card

Deezer shows a free plan at EUR 0 where streaming is ad-supported, though the pricing page marks it as unavailable in some countries. Apple Music lists no permanent free plan and gives new Individual, Family and Student subscribers one month free. Apple Music Radio is described as free, which is a smaller offer than a full free catalogue, so Deezer wins this round.

    Edge: Deezer

  2. 02

    Monthly sticker prices

Apple shows Individual at $11.99 a month and Student at $6.99, in USD as displayed, plus Apple One bundles from $21.95. Deezer shows Premium at EUR 11.99 a month, renewing at the same amount after the first free month. Because one price is in dollars and the other in euros, we call this level and suggest checking your own checkout page.

    Depends on the buyer

  3. 03

    Family accounts compared

Apple's Family plan costs $19.99 a month and shares with up to five people through Family Sharing. Deezer's Family plan allows up to 6 members on one account and up to 13 linked devices, but the family price is not shown on the page we read. Apple is clearer on cost and Deezer on headcount, so neither side takes it.

    Depends on the buyer

  4. 04

    Trial fine print and cancelling

Deezer's free month is limited to one use per user and excluded for anyone who used a Deezer trial or promotion or held a paid subscription. It asks you to cancel at least 48 hours before renewal and calls the plan non-binding. Apple offers one month to new subscribers plus three months with an eligible new device. Apple's wider eligibility wins here.

  5. 05

    Phones, speakers and cars

Apple's page lists iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple Vision Pro, HomePod, CarPlay, Android, Windows, Alexa, Sonos and Google Nest. It also mentions offline downloads on the Individual plan and Siri integration. Deezer's pages we read show only the 13 linked devices on a Family plan and name no platform list, so Apple is the better documented choice. Hi-Res Lossless needs outside equipment such as a USB converter.

  6. 06

    Paris listing versus Cupertino terms

Deezer says it was founded in 2007 in Paris, opened a new headquarters there in 2020 and listed on Euronext in Paris in 2022 after merging with the I2PO SPAC. Its legal entity is not named on the pages read. Apple's terms name Apple Inc. in Cupertino for US users and Apple Distribution International in Cork otherwise. The country for Deezer therefore comes from its headquarters.

When neither fits

If a mainstream catalogue is not what you want, IDAGIO and Qobuz are the two alternatives in this category we would look at first. Both are narrower in focus, so check their own plans before you switch.
