WeTransfer alternatives: 11 file transfer tools compared
People look for a WeTransfer alternative when the free plan runs out after 10 transfers or 3 GB in 30 days, when they need a transfer larger than the plan allows, or when a team wants admin controls without a 50-seat Enterprise contract. They move to another free sender with a bigger cap, a paid sender with published prices, or a media-grade transfer product.
Short answer: The first three alternatives to WeTransfer in our file transfer software ranking are SwissTransfer, Smash and TransferNow. Places 1 to 3 go to challengers, vendors outside the best-known brands in a category, wherever the category has them; the established names follow from place 4 in their ranked order. Choose SwissTransfer if you mainly need a bigger free cap than 3 GB and no sign-up. All 11 alternatives below are ranked products from Best File Transfer Software in 2026, and each says where it differs from WeTransfer.
Vendors can pay for visibility on this site; it never changes what we say
about a product. How that works.
Pricing: Free plan with monthly limits; Starter, Ultimate, Teams; Enterprise quoted
Established in: Netherlands
Built for: Individuals and small teams who want the familiar sender with clear limits
Not for: Teams wanting a published per-seat price and no volume window
01
Why buyers look past WeTransfer
01
The free plan is capped by count and volume together
WeTransfer's help centre states that Free allows 10 transfers or 3 GB in any rolling 30-day window, and Starter allows 10 transfers or 300 GB. Someone who sends a few large video files a month hits the 3 GB ceiling first, and the step up is a subscription, not a bigger free tier.
02
Admin controls sit in the top tiers
Custom expiry, password protection, branded pages and Access Control are listed under Ultimate, shared workspaces under Teams, and audit log, SSO and SCIM under Enterprise. Enterprise requires a minimum of 50 users, so a ten-person business that wants SSO has no listed plan that fits.
03
Paying more does not buy speed, and prices are hard to see
WeTransfer states there is no difference in upload or download speed between Free and paid. The plan pages we could load showed no price amounts, and a free trial may be offered at checkout with its length shown only there, so compare the checkout screen, not a published table.
Pay per GB, monthly plans and licence, published; free 14-day trial
FASP-protocol transfer billed per gigabyte or by licence, for large pipelines

SwissTransfer
Switzerland · Free transfers up to 50 GB without an account; paid offers add branding and history
Free transfers up to 50 GB for 30 days with no account to send or receive, hosted in Switzerland in data centres run by Infomaniak. There is no listed transfer count. It is a free sender first, and the page links a Pro option whose terms we did not verify, so branding and team controls are not its point.
Switch from WeTransfer if you mainly need a bigger free cap than 3 GB and no sign-up.
France · Free to 2 GB per transfer; Pro, Team and Enterprise tiers, no commitment
Free to 2 GB per transfer for 7 days, with larger free transfers queued behind paid ones. Pro (1 user) has unlimited transfer size and 30 days, Team covers 10 to 50 users, and Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM and a custom domain. Paid price amounts were not shown in the page text we loaded.
Switch from WeTransfer if you want unlimited transfer size on a paid plan with a French vendor.
France · Free sending to 5 GB; Starter, Premium and Team tiers published; 7-day trial
Publishes its prices: Premium at 6 EUR a month and Team at 18 EUR a month on a two-year billing option, with 250 GB and 500 GB per transfer. Free sends 5 GB per transfer for 7 days with no sign-up. It limits each transfer by size and states no monthly count. Operated by Highsense, France.
Switch from WeTransfer if you want to read the price of 250 GB transfers before signing up.
Norway · Free to 5 GB without registration; Personal, Pro and Business tiers, 7-day trial
Sends up to 5 GB free without registration. Paid Personal, Pro and Business tiers raise the cap to 5 GB, 250 GB and any size, and each plan has a 7-day trial. Business adds end-to-end encryption, 2FA, SAML/SSO and a choice of storage regions. Filemail AS is a Norwegian company.
Switch from WeTransfer if you need encrypted transfers or storage-region control below an enterprise contract.
Switzerland · Free sending up to 5 GB without registration; paid options not shown
A single-purpose page for sending files up to 5 GB, titled as free, from Tresorit, which describes itself as part of Swiss Post. The page itself shows no plan table, expiry setting or paid tier, so it replaces only the basic free send and none of WeTransfer's branded or team features.
Switch from WeTransfer if you want a small free sender from an encryption-focused Swiss-owned vendor.
United States · Free Lite tier; Pro, Teams and Business published per month, billed annually
Lite is free but limited to 100 MB files, 2 GB storage and a 7-day expiry. Pro is 12 USD a month billed annually for 25 GB files, Teams 24 USD per user and Business 36 USD per user for 3 or more users. It adds creative review tools, and custom branding is a paid add-on. It is part of OpenText.
Switch from WeTransfer if you send files for creative review and want published per-user prices.
United States · Included with every Dropbox plan, Basic free; paid plans published per user
Dropbox Transfer comes with every Dropbox plan, with a limit that rises with the plan: 2 GB on Basic, 50 GB on Plus, 100 GB on Standard and Advanced, 250 GB on Business Plus. Recipients need no account. You pay for storage and sync as well, so it suits an existing Dropbox customer.
Switch from WeTransfer if you already pay for Dropbox and want transfers without a second subscription.
Canada · Pay as you go per GB with 15 GB free monthly; annual and prepaid tiers published
Charges by data moved, not by seat: 0.25 USD per GB after the first 15 GB free each month, with a credit card required at sign-up. Annual tiers start at 250 GB and prepaid credits last 180 days. It targets large media and data files, and a rarely-sending user pays nothing extra for seats they do not use.
Switch from WeTransfer if you send huge files irregularly and prefer paying per GB over a subscription.
United States · Per user per month, published; trial; minimum of three users
A per-user business document platform at 16.50 USD per user per month on annual billing for Advanced, with a minimum of 3 users, and a Premium tier with e-signature, forms and a client portal. It replaces file sending with client workflows and is overbuilt for someone who only shares large files. It is part of Progress.
Switch from WeTransfer if your transfers are client document exchanges that need portals, forms and e-signature.
United States · Annual packages with published starting prices; quote required
Media Shuttle is sold by quote, with Small Business listed from 13,000 USD a year and Professional from 25,000 USD a year, with unlimited transfers and no file size limits. Storage can be in the cloud or on-premises. Packages are quoted, so there is no amount to compare before you talk to sales.
Switch from WeTransfer if you move terabytes of media files for a studio or broadcaster and have a budget line for it.
United States · Pay per GB, monthly plans and licence, published; free 14-day trial
Built on FASP transfer technology for moving data across long distances. Pay As You Go starts at 1.07 USD per GB of transfer per month, Essentials from 22.10 USD a month, Standard Plus from 660 USD a month, and a self-managed Lite licence from 11,916 USD a year. A free 14-day trial covers up to 50 GB.
Switch from WeTransfer if you need high-speed transfers of very large datasets between sites and have IT staff to run it.
WeTransfer is still the right choice for a team that sends occasional large files to clients and wants the Ultimate or Teams features: custom expiry, password protection and branded pages, and up to 1 TB per transfer. Its Enterprise plan states ISO 27001 certification and a minimum of 50 users. Staying also avoids retraining recipients who already recognise the download page.

What moving off WeTransfer involves
01
Download what recipients still need first
Transfers expire, and storage covers live and recoverable transfers on your account. Before you cancel, list the transfers that clients may still open and either download the files or send them again from the new service with a fresh expiry date.
02
Check what a new service counts
WeTransfer limits Free by the number of transfers and total gigabytes in a rolling 30 days. Other services limit by size per transfer, by seat, or by gigabyte moved. Add up a month of your own sending and test it against each limit before you commit.
03
Tell regular recipients about the new link
Branded pages and custom sender names are WeTransfer plan features. A new service has its own download page, and some brand it only on paid plans, so warn clients that the next link will look different and come from another domain.

Questions about replacing WeTransfer
6 answers
What is the best free alternative to WeTransfer?
SwissTransfer sends up to 50 GB per transfer free with no account, and Filemail and TransferNow each send up to 5 GB free.
WeTransfer Free allows 10 transfers or 3 GB in a rolling 30 days, so the size cap is the main difference. Test the cap with a real file.
Is there a WeTransfer alternative without a size cap?
Smash Pro, Filemail Business and Signiant Media Shuttle state no limit on transfer size, and MASV bills per GB with no limit on how much you send.
WeTransfer Ultimate caps a transfer at 1 TB. Paid plans on these services cost more or are quoted, so check the pricing page.
Which WeTransfer alternatives publish prices?
TransferNow, Hightail, Dropbox, ShareFile, MASV, Signiant (from-prices) and IBM Aspera show amounts on their own pages. Smash and Filemail showed plan names but no amounts in the page text we loaded, and WeTransfer pricing pages did not load without JavaScript.
Is there a European alternative to WeTransfer?
WeTransfer itself states it is located in the Netherlands and Italy for VAT purposes. TransferNow and Smash are French, SwissTransfer and Tresorit Send are Swiss, and Filemail is Norwegian. Each vendor's own legal pages state where the company is established.
Can I send files without the recipient creating an account?
Yes on most services listed here. SwissTransfer, Filemail, Dropbox Transfer and TransferNow state that recipients need no account to download. Check the sender side too, since MASV needs a credit card to create an account even for the free 15 GB.
Does a paid alternative send files faster than WeTransfer?
WeTransfer states that speed depends on your internet connection, not your plan. Some services sell acceleration, such as Filemail's UDP Transfer Acceleration on higher tiers, and IBM Aspera's FASP technology targets long-distance transfers. For ordinary broadband uploads, expect little change.
