Splunk Enterprise Security vs IBM QRadar

Both are quote-only SIEMs from large United States vendors, so neither lets you compare amounts from a pricing page. QRadar is licensed by events per second and flows per minute or by managed virtual servers, and is built around on-premises appliances and software. Splunk Enterprise Security comes in two editions, runs in the cloud or self-managed, and is priced by activity, workload or ingest. The choice comes down to licence metric, deployment style and which edition features you need.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

  1. 01

    What the licence counts

QRadar's usage model counts events per second and flows per minute, and its enterprise model counts Managed Virtual Servers. Splunk offers activity-based, workload or ingest pricing. QRadar's metrics are tied to rates, so a spike in log volume raises the licence you need. Splunk gives a choice of three, which helps only if you can size each one.

    Depends on the buyer

  2. 02

    Published amounts

The QRadar pricing page lists the models and shows no amounts. On Splunk's page, each edition has a quote button and no amount appears either. We could not verify a number for either product, so neither earns a point here.

    Depends on the buyer

  3. 03

    Where it can be hosted

Splunk states that Enterprise Security is available in the cloud and for self-managed or on-prem use, and a Splunk-managed SaaS version has a free trial. QRadar lists software (hardware and virtual appliances on premises) and a managed service from IBM X-Force Threat Management Services. Splunk's range includes a trial route that QRadar's page does not mention.

    Edge: Splunk Enterprise Security

  4. 04

    Built-in analytics and rules

QRadar's product page names user behavior analytics, network detection and response, native support for community Sigma rules and 700 prebuilt integrations. Splunk's product page names SIEM, SOAR, UEBA, Detection Studio, Risk-Based Alerting and an AI Assistant, but its pricing table puts SOAR and UEBA in Premier only. QRadar's single list is simpler to read.

    Edge: IBM QRadar

  5. 05

    Support and renewal terms

QRadar's Subscription and Support covers 24x7x365 technical support and renews annually, with subscription or perpetual licensing for on-premises. The Splunk pages we read do not describe support hours or renewal terms. QRadar states more about what the contract includes.

    Edge: IBM QRadar

03

When neither fits

If you need to read a price on a public page before talking to sales, neither suits. Datadog lists a per-GB rate for Cloud SIEM, and Elastic Security publishes per-GB serverless rates.
