PostHog vs Heap

PostHog asks you to choose which events and products to turn on, and bills each with its own free allowance. Heap captures interactions through one snippet and counts sessions, and its vendor site says it has joined Contentsquare. The difference is setup style and who owns the product.

Vendors can pay for more visibility on this website, for example a higher place in a ranking or more room on a page. Commercial relationships can also affect which products we feature and how prominently. Every vendor link is marked the same, whatever the arrangement behind it. How that works.

Where they differ

PostHog 3 · Heap 1 · open 0
  1. 01

    How data gets in

Heap's site says a single snippet captures every user interaction automatically. PostHog sells analytics, replay and flags as separate products, each metered on its own. Heap is faster to start, while PostHog needs more decisions.

    Edge: Heap

  2. 02

    What the free plan covers

Heap's Free plan covers up to 10k monthly sessions with six months of history and SSO. PostHog's renews monthly with 1M events and 5K recordings, with one year of history and one project. PostHog keeps data twice as long.

    Edge: PostHog

  3. 03

    Paid pricing visibility

Heap's Growth price is estimated only after installing the snippet, and Pro and Premier are custom. PostHog's paid route is pay as you go after adding a card, with a billing limit per product. Neither lists every number, but PostHog's cap is under your control.

    Edge: PostHog

  4. 04

    Ownership and hosting

Heap states it is now part of Contentsquare, and its privacy policy moved there. PostHog Cloud EU runs on servers in Frankfurt. Heap lists region-specific storage only in Premier. For European hosting, PostHog is clearer.

    Edge: PostHog

When neither fits

If you want a privacy-first traffic report without product tracking, try Plausible or Simple Analytics.
